Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the effectiveness of the GAWI SABUMI educational animation video in strengthening students' cultural literacy related to the philosophy of the Banjar community. The study was motivated by findings that students' cultural literacy remains low, especially in internalizing the values of GAWI SABUMI, due to the limited availability of engaging and contextual learning media.Methodology – A Research and Development (R&D) approach was applied using the DDD-E model (decide, design, develop, evaluate). The participants consisted of 60 undergraduate students from the Elementary School Teacher Education Program at Lambung Mangkurat University, divided into two groups: 30 in the experimental class and 30 in the control class. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires and pre- and post–test assessments. Cultural literacy was assessed through three indicators: understanding cultural complexity, knowledge of one's own culture, and cultural awareness. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests, along with N-Gain calculations.Findings – The results showed improvement in both groups, but the experimental class demonstrated more substantial gains. The Wilcoxon test indicated significant differences between pretest and posttest scores in both classes, with Z = -3.898 (Sig. = 0.000) for the control group and Z = -4.816 (Sig. = 0.000) for the experimental group. The higher Z value in the experimental class reflects greater effectiveness. The Mann-Whitney test confirmed a significant difference between the two groups (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05). The average N-Gain of 0.83 in the experimental group fell into the high category, indicating the substantial effectiveness of the animation video.Contribution – This study contributes to the development of innovative, local wisdom-based learning media. It highlights the potential of animation as a pedagogical tool for internalizing cultural values, particularly Banjar philosophy, in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of internalizing cultural values through traditional batik dance creations in learning in fifth graders of SDN Tulusrejo 2 with a focus on the introduction of cultural values through symbols and dance movements, contextual learning experiences, student interactions in dance activities, and the role of teachers in directing the meaning of learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. The research subjects consisted of 10 fifth grade students and one class teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the internalization of cultural values takes place through the introduction of batik symbols connected to dance movements, learning experiences through direct practice, and the formation of values such as cooperation, responsibility, and discipline through group interactions during learning, while the teacher acts as a facilitator who directs and gives meaning to each activity. The conclusion of the study shows that the internalization of cultural values through traditional batik dance creations occurs through a series of learning experiences that include cultural symbols, dance practices, social interactions, and the role of teachers, so that cultural values are understood by students through contextual and meaningful learning experiences in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the integration strategies of Japin Carita performance art as a transformative arts education instrument capable of maintaining and developing Banjar cultural identity in elementary school students. Amidst the accelerating threat of local cultural extinction due to digital globalization, Japin Carita offers a vital medium for value revitalization through its unique blend of dance, music, and educational narratives. This research employs a qualitative literature review method, systematically analyzing various academic sources, cultural documents, and pedagogical frameworks related to the philosophical values of Japin Carita and educational practices that support cultural sustainability. The results demonstrate that Japin Carita possesses high urgency to be reintegrated into the school ecosystem, not merely as a decorative subject, but as a core component of character building. The study identifies that the Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5) work exhibitions serve as a strategic platform for students to actively engage in the creative process, from scriptwriting to public performance. This active participation fosters a sense of pride and ownership over their ancestral heritage. Furthermore, the integration of local wisdom, such as the Gawi Sabumi philosophy, into the school curriculum helps bridge the gap between traditional values and modern competencies. The conclusion emphasizes that the survival of local Banjar culture depends heavily on the systemic efforts of schools to transform traditional arts into a living, dynamic practice that is relevant to students' contemporary lives, rather than treating them as stagnant artifacts of the past. This approach ensures that cultural identity remains a resilient foundation for future generations.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how elementary school children exercise discipline in holding temporary desires and himmah in realizing desires. In describing it, researchers use the basic theory of Good (1959) and supporting theories from Hartati (2010) and Haidar (2013) which define discipline as self-control in an effort to resist momentary desires and the use of desires and abilities. Researchers use a qualitative approach with narrative design. Participants were taken from grade 5 elementary school students with the condition that they met the predetermined participant criteria. In taking data, researchers use interview techniques with reference to interview guidelines that have been made. The results showed that: (1) Elementary school age children are still at a concrete operational stage which leads to a rudimentary state of thought and emotional stability. Children are only able to think logically about abstract objects around them. External influences are very easy to enter the mind and change its movements. The usual influences received by elementary-age children such as skipping school, smoking, and the habit of staying up late. (2) Desire and ability are two things that are interrelated and influence. Desire is related to the goals to be achieved when the child grows up. While ability is related to the facilities available. A child's goals are influenced by two things: personal experience and external encouragement. Meanwhile, ability is influenced by school policies that encourage school literacy.
