Abstract

The decline in new car sales in Indonesia has led to an increase in used car buying and selling activities, including the role of Gubang in the distribution process. This study aims to examine the values and norms formed in the relationship between Gubang and showroom owners, as well as how ethics and trust are maintained in the trade relationship. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show that Gubang plays a strategic role in the practice of buying and selling used cars, not only as an intermediary who bridges between showrooms and consumers, but also as an actor who helps maintain the sustainability of social value-based trade relations. In practice, Gubang plays an active role in finding customers and supplying vehicles, relying on the social networks and trust that have been built. Formal contracts do not govern his relationship with showroom owners, but by socially binding unwritten norms, such as maintaining work ethics, not harming the showroom, and not bringing customers to other parties without consent. The values of mutual respect, responsibility, and loyalty become the foundation that binds the cooperation between Gubang and the showroom. This research contributes to the study of sociology, especially on values and norms in informal trade relations. This research contributes to the study of sociology, especially regarding values and norms in informal trade relations. Future research is expected to expand the study of the Gubang profession and its role in supporting the used car buying and selling system practically and academically.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge about the dangers of smoking and self-efficacy for smoking cessation among adolescents. A descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 203 smoking students at SMKN 4 Garut, Indonesia. Validated and reliable questionnaires were used to measure knowledge and self-efficacy. Results showed that most respondents had good knowledge (61.1%) and high self-efficacy (66%). Spearman’s Rank correlation test revealed a strong positive relationship between knowledge and self-efficacy (r = 0.737, p = 0.001). The study concludes that higher knowledge about smoking hazards is associated with higher self-efficacy for quitting smoking among vocational high school students.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the potential and challenges of ecotourism development in supporting the preservation of physical environmental aspects in the Tangkahan area, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra. The physical environment, such as soil quality, water, vegetation, and natural landscape is the main assets that support the attractiveness of ecotourism. This uses a qualitative descriptive approach through direct observation and semi-structured interviews involving local managers, tourists, and related organizations. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results showed that Tangkahan has great potential as a conservation-based ecotourism destination, with preserved water and air quality and high biodiversity. However, there are significant challenges such as limited infrastructure, low promotion, and environmental threats due to uncontrolled tourism activities. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of an integrated management strategy involving local communities, improved supporting facilities, and environmental education for tourists to ensure the area's sustainability. These findings can be the basis for formulating ecotourism development policies based on physical environment conservation.
