Abstract

Obstacles of providing exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers using social-ecological theoryBackground: The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in Indonesia was increased to 38% but it was lower than the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target (80%). One of the influence factors is to return to work. Society assumed that a mother who stays at home more successful to provide EBF than working mothers. A previous study indicated that some obstacles become early cessation factors among working mothers.Objective: To explore the obstacle of breastfeeding using social-ecological theory.Methods: Qualitative research inquiry based on phenomenology design. Informants were chosen through purposive sampling. Inclusion criteria were working mothers who succeeded provide exclusive breastfeeding, had children age 6-24 months, lived, and formally worked at Manado. Data triangulation was conducted through in-depth interviews with the manager/supervisor/colleague. Data collected using in-depth interviews and observation.Results: A total of twelve informants have interviewed consists of six working mothers and six triangulation informants. The result indicated that lack of confidence was related to providing exclusive breastfeeding. This is caused by family influence, culture, health provider, and lack of awareness from the working place. A support group was the main factors that influence the mother to overcome all obstacles.Conclusions: The main obstacles for working mothers to provide EBF come from interpersonal factors that determined by other factors: intrapersonal, organizational, community. Therefore working mothers need breastfeeding preparation since early pregnancy to decrease breastfeeding obstacles.

Abstract

Balanced nutrition in early childhood is very important in achieving optimal growth and development, because in this period children begin to learn what, when and how to eat either through direct experience or seeing other people which will have an impact on their developmental health.  Increased in health problems on children mainly caused by various factors including parent economic status, parenting patterns, and the level of knowledge and awareness of healthy and nutritious food on children. This will potentially lead to new health problems and will have an impact on children’s growth and development which will affect their productivity in the future. The purpose of this community service is to carry out mentoring for early childhood nutrition education for parents and teachers at PAUD Samratulangi in Manado City. The targets are parents and teachers at PAUD Samratulangi in Manado City. The activity was held on June 11th, 2022 with several stages including preparation stage, implementation stage, and evaluation stage. The preparation stage is carried out by conducting survey location and obtaining permits at the activity site. Implementation is carried out by providing balanced nutrition assistance to parents and teachers. Evaluation is carried out by collecting data from the impelentation activities, in this case by providing a knowledge questionnaire about balanced nutrition for early childhood. The result of this activity is the impelentation of balanced nutrition assistance to parents and teachers. The implementers of this community service activities are lecturers and undergraduate students form the Nutrition Program, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Manado

Abstract

Background of Study: North Sulawesi Province becomes a province which has 31.4% of stunting cases. North Minahasa Regence becomes one of stunting local areas which are intervened in order to occur reduction cases which currently amounted to 29.7%. One of factors which affect stunting are mother’s knowledge which influence feeding practices. Responsive feeding is feeding practices which is recommended by WHO conducted with psychosocial approach. Responsive feeding effects on physical and mental development of babies. Mothers who live in stunting-prone area have lower responsive feeding knowledge and practice than those in non-stunting areas.Purpose of Study: for investigating the effect of feeding education with the concept of responsive feeding on the knowledge and practice of eating on stunting babies aged 12-36 months.Method of Study:  This study was quantitative study with experimental quasi approach. The study was conducted in Wori District, there were 11 people in case group and 7 people in control group. The respondent criteria were mothers who had stunting toddler aged 12-36 months and were not experiencing mental health. The analysis in this study used univariate and bivariate test. Pretest was provided before education was provided and post test was conducted 2 weeks after education.Result: Univariate test which is used is chi-square test and bivariate analysis is conducted through Independent Sample T-test. The finding of this study showed that there is enhancement of knowledge on case group after responsive feeding education is given however there is no enhancement in attitude. While in control group does not experience an enhancement both knowledge and attitude after education is given.Conclusion: Providing responsive feeding education can enhance mother’s knowledge about good feeding on stunting babies although it requires education for more than 2 weeks for increasing mother’s attitude in feeding of stunting babies.

Abstract

Background: The coverage rate of exclusive breastfeeding in North Sulawesi Province is 39.7% in 2021. Return of women to the workplace is one of the factors contributing to the failure of exclusive. Breastfeeding support groups has an impact on their desire to provide exclusive breastfeeding. The North Sulawesi Breastfeeding Care Community (KAPAS) is established in Manado in 2016 and consist of more than 200 members. Objectives:  investigate the role of support groups for working mothers giving exclusive breastfeeding Methods: A phenomenological design was used in qualitative research. Informant were purposefully chosen. Inclusion criteria are mothers who successfully breastfed exclusively their baby aged six to twenty-four months, full-time jobs in the formal sector, worked and lived in Manado with their baby. Exclusion criteria are mother who have twin babies, pregnant mother, premature, unhealthy, and low birth weight baby. The interview was transcribed and analyzed using the opencode. Results: Following screening to 195 mothers, 5 major informants and 2 supporting informant. In-depth interviews were used to collect the data. The findings revealed that working mothers' desire to exclusively breastfeed as motivation to join KAPAS.  When a mother joins KAPAS can be overcome internal and external challenges confidently. Working mothers gained more expertise in managing expressed breast because of the information in the group. Furthermore, mothers have a willingness to discuss their desire giving exclusive breastfeeding to hospital staff. KAPAS give support through emotional, instrumental, and informational support. Conclusions: KAPAS give emotional, instrumental, and informational support so they can successfully give exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Parental eating habits have a positive effect on children's nutritional health. Numerous studies have examined children's eating patterns; however, few studies have examined the association between parental eating patterns based on the dimensions of demandingness and responsiveness in children and the nutritional status of 6- to 24-month-old children. This study aimed to examine the relationship between parental dietary habits and the nutritional status of children aged 6–24 months in Manado City. The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design in the working area of the Ranomut Health Center, which included six neighborhoods from three villages: Paal 2, Ranomut, and Perkamil. This village was chosen because it has the highest concentration of children under the age of five in the Ranomut Health Center's service area. In this study, 96 samples were selected using the method of purposive sampling based on the criteria established by the researcher. The instrument used was the validated and reliable Feeding Practices and Structure Questionnaire for Infants, followed by data analysis using the Spearman rank test. The respondents' parental eating styles were authoritarian (31.3%), permissive (27.1%), democratic (20%), and negligent (20%). The nutritional status of children under the age of five was 26% malnourished and 74% well-nourished. The Spearman rank test resulted in a p-value of 0.674. This can be attributed to other factors, such as family composition and age-inappropriate food portions.

Abstract

The toddler period is a golden period that determines the rate of growth and development of toddlers both physically, mentally and emotionally. Assessment of nutritional status Assessment of nutritional status of toddlers using standard and measurable parameters can be used as a monitoring item for nutritional problems in toddlers. This study aims to describe the findings based on research data conducted in 2021 on 96 toddlers in the working area of the Ranomuut Public Health Center, Manado City, North Sulawesi Province. Primary anthropometric and age data were collected on toddlers 6-24 months and obtained data that 26% of toddlers have nutritional status in the poor category (<2SD) and 74% of them have nutritional status in the good category (? -2 SD to +2SD). Even though there is no urgency found in the results of this study, the conclusions of the research need to be published, and it is hoped that this can be used as a reference for future research.

Abstract

Adolescents frequently encounter several nutrition-related issues, such as anemia, obesity, and chronic energy deficiency, among others. During the developmental phase of adolescence, individuals need guidance as well as encouragement from adult figures. There is a need for guidance in order to enhance individuals' self-awareness and awareness towards regularly arising concerns. Health education is an effective approach for enhancing individuals' understanding and abilities to transform their health-related behaviors through the process of acquiring knowledge. The purpose of this activity is to increase awareness of adolescent health education in Frater Don Bosco Junior High School . The methods this activity conducts interactive seminars and to assess the students' comprehension, the team conducts pre and post-tests utilizing the Web Tool platform to develop interactive quizzes. The result findings this activity can involve participants activaly and indicated a significant increase of 20.64% in participants' knowledge. The suggested recommendation for promoting enhanced understanding of adolescent health among students is to offer training programs to teachers and establish peer groups in schools.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Stunting merupakan masalah serius di Desa Talawaan Atas, Minahasa Utara, yang memerlukan penanganan melalui pemberdayaan kader posyandu. Namun, keterbatasan pelatihan membuat kader kurang optimal dalam menjalankan perannya. Oleh karena itu, pelatihan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader dalam memanfaatkan pangan lokal sebagai solusi inovatif menjadi kebutuhan utama. Metode: Kegiatan Pelatihan tiga hari melibatkan tiga kader posyandu dengan materi kesehatan ibu dan balita, stunting, tumbuh kembang anak, serta PMT berbasis pangan lokal. Kader mempraktikkan pembuatan mie bayam merah dan puding daun katuk, didampingi saat posyandu untuk memastikan penerapan keterampilan. Hasil: Pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan kader tentang stunting dari 79% menjadi 90%. Selain itu, keterampilan kader dalam mengolah pangan lokal juga meningkat, terutama dalam memanfaatkan bahan seperti bayam merah dan daun katuk untuk PMT. Kesimpulan: Pelatihan dan pendampingan yang diberikan terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan kader dalam mencegah stunting melalui pemanfaatan pangan lokal. Program ini dapat menjadi model pemberdayaan kader di wilayah lain dengan permasalahan serupa.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Peralihan makanan dan minuman tradisional ke makanan dan minuman kekinian yang tinggi gula, garam lemak membuat risiko obesitas dan penyakit tidak menular pada remaja meningkat. Remaja rentan masalah ini karena sering mengkonsumsi sebagai tren. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan gizi dan keterampilan membaca informasi gizi pada siswa SMA. Metode: Edukasi dan praktik pada 24 siswa SMA Islam Terpadu (IT) Harapan Bunda Manado. Hasil: Terdapat peningkatan pengetahuan tentang gizi pada siswa dari 72,1 menjadi 82,7 melalui pretest dan post test. Selain itu, terdapat peningkatan juga pada keterampilan membaca informasi gizi pada kemasan makanan dan minuman. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan ini memberikan manfaat kepada siswa dengan ditandai meningkatnya pengetahuan dari 72,1 menjadi 82,7 dan keterampilan membaca informasi gizi.

Abstract

Remaja mulai memperhatikan penampilan fisik mereka dibandingkan aspek lain di dalam dirinya. Citra tubuh berkaitan erat dengan perilaku makan namun regulasi makan menjadi faktor yang menghindarkan remaja dari perilaku makan yang buruk. Pengukuran regulasi makan diperlukan untuk mengetahui kesadaran makan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui hubungan citra tubuh dengan regulasi makan. Penelitian dilakukan di SMA Muhammadiyah Manado menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional dengan teknik pengambilan sampel total sampling yang berjumlah 54 siswa. Alat ukur yang digunakan menggunakan kuesioner Body Image Scale for Youth (BISY) untuk mengukur body image, dan kuesioner Self-Regulation of Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (SREBQ) untuk mengukur regulasi makan. Analisis data menggunakan uji chi square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang memiliki citra tubuh negatif sebesar 51,8% dan positif 48,2%; sedangkan regulasi makan yang rendah sebesar 37,1% dan tinggi 62,9 %. Uji chi square menunjukkan terdapat hubungan citra tubuh dengan regulasi makan dengan p value 0,014 (<0,05). Citra tubuh baik negatif maupun positif dapat mempengaruhi regulasi makan siswa. Pihak sekolah perlu memberikan edukasi kepada siswa tentang kesehatan mental dan pengaturan pola makan untuk menghindari gangguan makan dapat mempengaruhi performa belajar di sekolah
