Abstract

This case study sought to determine the effectiveness of Flipgrid in enhancing the speaking abilities of 20 secondary school teachers representing a variety of subject disciplines. After recording three video monologues and writing reflective journals about their practice experience, all participants responded to questionnaire and interview to express how Flipgrid affected their motivation and self-confidence in speaking English along with their perception of the platform. The interview data was analyzed using Nvivo software by utilizing In Vivo coding. Then, the analysis result was triangulated with the questionnaire. It was concluded that Flipgrid was suitable for participants with English basic proficiency. It also assisted those with intermediate and advanced levels to practice speaking English independently. All participants were motivated due to the excitement, enjoyment, challenge, and self-assurance to speak more effectively. It affected their confidence because their pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and grammar improved. Despite minor obstacles in operating Flipgrid, it was considered effective due to its accessibility, helpfulness, and friendliness. This research revealed that using Flipgrid and combining it with face-to-face learning would be a good way to practice speaking English and in future studies, the efficacy of these two strategies would be worth investigated.

Abstract

One of the contributing factors to divorce is the lack of mental preparedness in dealing with the complexity of marital issues that were not previously discussed by prospective spouses, coupled with inadequate preparation for marriage. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of premarital counseling and assess the readiness of prospective spouses after participating in such counseling. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on text-based data analysis. Conducted at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) in Batumarmar with prospective spouses as subjects, data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation, validated through triangulation. Findings indicate that premarital counseling at KUA Batumarmar is crucial in preparing prospective spouses for marital life. They demonstrate mature mental readiness for marriage, a strong understanding of religious values, mutual support commitment, and social and financial preparedness for a sustainable and happy family life.

Abstract

This study examines the negotiation of identity and female resistance in the short story Mawar di Kanal Macan by Iksaka Banu, focusing on the dual oppression faced by women in colonial and postcolonial contexts. Using a descriptive-analytical method and a postcolonial feminist approach, the research explores how colonial and patriarchal power structures shape women's identities and incite resistance. Drawing on theories of identity, subalternity, and hybridity, the analysis investigates how women in subaltern positions negotiate their identities within dominant power structures. Furthermore, it examines how hybridity and intersectionality create spaces for resistance through both subtle and overt actions. The findings reveal that the main character, Adelheid Ewald, navigates complex identity negotiations due to the intersecting influences of colonial and patriarchal dominance, with resistance manifesting in legal and symbolic forms. These insights contribute to postcolonial feminist discourse in Indonesia, offering a deeper understanding of how women assert their agency despite operating within layered systems of oppression. The study suggests further exploration of other literary works that engage similar themes to expand discussions on identity and resistance in postcolonial societies.
