Abstract

One of the skills as an essential element in achieving learning objectives is questioning skills. Through questioning, students' learning levels can be increased. This research aimed to investigate teachers' question types and questioning strategies to facilitate students' understanding of English material. The subjects of this qualitative research consisted of two English teachers. In addition, this research used observation by video recording and a semi-structured interview to obtain the data. The interview was conducted with a face-to-face mood, while the data were analyzed by using the theory of Anderson and Krathwohl (2001) to find types of teachers' questions and Goodwin et al. (1990) to find questioning strategies. The results showed the participants used more remembering questions and understanding questions before starting the lessons and in the middle of the teaching. Meanwhile, the strategies used by participants were giving waiting time, rewarding with reinforcement, probing, adjusting, or refocusing, redirecting, and rephrasing.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana pengaruh motivasi kerja, disiplin kerja guru, dan fasilitas belajar terhadap prestasi belajar siswa kelas X di SMK DB 4 Kota Jambi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan metode survei untuk menguji hipotesis atau menjawab pertanyaan yang berkaitan dengan current status dari subjek yang diteliti. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 98 sampel dan angket yang kembali sebanyak 84 orang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh positif dan signifikan motivasi kerja guru terhadap terhadap hasil belajar / prestasi belajar siswa dengan koefisian determinasi sebesar 0,438. Terdapat pengaruh positif dan signifikan antara disiplin kerja terhadap hasil belajar/prestasi dengan koefisien determinasi sebanyak 0,287. Terdapat pengaruh positif dan signifikan antara disiplin kerja terhadap hasil belajar/ prestasi dengan koefisien determinasi sebanyak 0,411. Kemudian, terdapat pengaruh positif dan signifikan antara motivasi kerja guru, disiplin kerja guru, dan fasilitas belajar siswa terhadap hasil belajar/prestasi dengan koefisien determinasi sebesar 0,506. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, guru – guru SMK DB 4 Kota Jambi disarankan agar dapat mempertahankan dan meningkatkan motivasi kerja yang telah dicapai baik dalam kualitas maupun proses pembelajaran serta tidak merasa cepat puas dengan apa yang telah dicapai agar terciptanya suasana belajar yang baik dan kondisuf.

Abstract

Interaction is a fundamental aspect of human life, with communication serving as a key component. In educational settings, classroom interaction plays a crucial role in facilitating effective knowledge transmission and fostering learning experiences. This study focuses on examining the patterns and quality of verbal interaction among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in a kindergarten classroom. This qualitative case study investigates the dynamics of classroom interaction in English between teachers and students at a kindergarten in Jambi. The research aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the patterns of interaction, describe the types of teacher talk, and explore the characteristics of student talk. Through close observation and analysis, the study reveals compelling findings regarding the dominance of teacher talk, the varied functions of both teacher and student talk, and the emergence of significant themes within the interactions. The results demonstrate that teacher talk holds a prominent role in the classroom, influencing the learning process and managing classroom activities. However, the level of dominance displayed by the teacher varies across different learning activities. Furthermore, the study uncovers distinct types and functions of teacher talk, encompassing accepting feelings, encouraging, accepting students' ideas, asking questions, lecturing, giving directions, criticizing, and silencing. Student talk involved responding, initiating, and silencing.

Abstract

Sebagai seorang guru profesional, kemampuan untuk memahami kurikulum pendidikan nasional merupakan hal yang sangat penting demi mewujudkan tujuan pendidikan yang diharapkan dalam kurikulum tersebut. Selain itu, guru juga dituntut untuk mampu membuat perangkat ajar sesuai dengan tujuan dan rambu-rambu yang sudah ditetapkan di dalam kurikulum pendidikan tersebut. Kurikulum Merdeka sebagai kurikulum pendidikan nasional Indonesia yang baru diluncurkan secara resmi pada tahun 2022 yang lalu memiliki karakteristik perangkat ajar yang jauh berbeda dibandingkan dengan karakteristik perangkat ajar di Kurikulum 2013 pendahulunya. Karenanya, dipandang perluuntuk memberikan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berupa pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada para guru sekolah dalam membuat perangkat ajar sebagaimana diamanatkan oleh Kurikulum Merdeka. Secara lebih spesifik, bidang studi yang dipilih adalah pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris karena merupakan expertise dari para dosen pelaksana kegiatan pengabdian kepada maysarakat ini, dalam hal ini kerjasama dengan Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) beserta guru Bahasa Inggris Tingkat SMA Kota Jambi sebagai mitra.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan peningkatan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa dengan penerapan model Index Card Match (ICM). Penelitian dilaksanakan di SD Islam Al-Falah Jambi. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VB. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksananakan dalam satu siklus yaitu dua pertemuan dimulai dengan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi (pengamatan) dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data dilakukan secara induktif, yaitu dimulai dari lapangan atau fakta empiris dengan terjun ke lapangan. Analisis data dalam penelitian kualitatif dilakukan secara bersamaan dengan proses pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian dari siklus pertama ke siklus kedua menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 18  dari 22 siswa menjadi aktif. Sementara untuk hasil belajar juga mengalami peningkatan yaitu 68,18% siswa yang tuntas pada pertemuan pertama menjadi 86,36% siswa yang tuntas pada pertemuan kedua. Peneliti menarik kesimpulan bahwa model ICM mampu meningkatkan keaktifan dan hasil belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran IPS Kelas VD SD Islam Al-Falah Jambi.  Kata kunci: Model Index Card Match, Keaktifan, Hasil Belajar

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman dengan menerapkan Metode PQ4R dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia Pada Siswa. Jenis Penelitian adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (classroom action research). PTK ini menggunakan dua siklus dengan setiap siklus dua kali pertemuan. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari instrumen hasil penilaian keterampilan membaca pemahaman siswa dari setiap siklus sudah memberikan peningkatan yang signifikan misalnya siklus I pertemuan ke-1 sebanyak 65,2%, siklus I pertemuan ke-2 sebanyak 49,4%, siklus II pertemuan ke-1 sebanyak 83,2%, dan siklus II pertemuan ke-2 sebanyak 77%. Dari hasil penelitian, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia siswa kelas VI.A shift 1 SD Negeri 66 Kota Jambi.  Kata Kunci: Metode PQ4R, Keterampilan Membaca Pemahaman

Abstract

This research aims to explore the challenges of digital reading comprehension on academic text faced by third-semester students at Jambi University. In conducting this research, the researchers used descriptive qualitative methods. Five participants participated in this research and met the criteria desired by the researchers, such as active third-semester students, students who had completed reading for academic purposes courses, and students who were willing to be involved in this research. The researchers used semi-structured interviews as an instrument in data collection. The data is then processed through three stages, namely, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions or verification. The final results reveal that there are two categories in the challenges of digital reading comprehension on academic text. The first category is technology issues which include low reading interest, eye strain, internet connection, concentration, and too much information. Meanwhile, the second category is academic reading comprehension challenges which include vocabulary, complex sentences, and unfamiliar topics. In conclusion, students face challenges in digital reading comprehension on academic texts, especially in aspects technology and comprehension.

Abstract

Learning English goes beyond merely memorizing English words and grammar rules. Instead, understanding the socio-cultural background is essential as an important part of successful communication. As a part of politeness strategies, responding appropriately to an English compliment is an urgent skill to master especially by English teachers as they play an important rule for their students in the process of English learning. This article therefore is aimed at investigating how English pre-service teachers at Jambi University respond English compliments. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The data collection tool is an interview which then be analyzed using Thematic Analysis. Based on the data, three major findings have emerged, they are: the variations of students’ responses toward English compliments, the influences of Indonesian language system in students’ responses and students’ lack of ability in producing appropriate compliment responses.

Abstract

This study sought to investigate the order of thinking of the reading comprehension questions and tasks of the English textbook for Grade 10 of Indonesian high school. The textbook was written within the framework of the Merdeka Curriculum to promote Higher Order of Thinking (HOTS) and was launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia in 2022. Drawing on a Quantitative Content Analysis design by using the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy as a reference for identification of HOTS, the present study analyzed 50 reading questions and tasks of the textbook. The results showed that the majority of the questions and tasks focused on remembering and evaluating the texts and required the reader to recall and comprehend the information that mostly belonged to the category of Lower Order of Thinking (LOTS). There were only few questions and tasks that required the readers to analyze and create based on the information from the text. To some extent, these showed a misalignment between what the Merdeka Curriculum seeks to promote in terms of HOTS and what the textbook realizes.
