Abstract

Technological advancements have catalyzed the emergence of the digital economy, where digital platforms, leveraging internet access, can penetrate multiple regions and accrue substantial profits unrestricted by national jurisdictions. This scenario presents advantages and convenience but simultaneously challenges a country's tax sovereignty. The traditional tax system, predicated on a company's physical presence for tax liability, finds itself ill-equipped to handle the digital domain's nuances. This research seeks to explore the potential and hurdles in implementing digital taxes in Indonesia, delving into the government's regulatory efforts within the framework of Society 5.0. From an academic standpoint, digital taxes illustrate the disruption in tax collection due to the absence of a tangible company presence. Thus, this study also aims to investigate the determination of tax sovereignty in the context of digital taxation, aspiring to enrich scholarly discourse. Employing a normative juridical approach, this study scrutinizes legal norms and rules while considering empirical facts from the field. The findings indicate that while the introduction of digital taxes in Indonesia holds significant promise and faces considerable challenges, governmental action to update and streamline digital tax regulations is imperative. Furthermore, the principles underlying digital tax proposals, such as Pillar One, require reinforcement to enhance their effective implementation.DOI: https://doi.org/10.22304/pjih.v11n1.a7

In the current era, technological advancements significantly influence consumer attitudes and behaviors regarding the selection, consumption, and utilization of products perceived to possess high quality and standards. The purchasing decision is an integral aspect of consumer behavior, encompassing the study of how individuals, groups, and organizations choose, buy, and use goods, services, ideas, or experiences to fulfill their needs and desires. This research aims to examine the impact of product diversification (X) on purchasing decisions (Y) within the Meatrix business located in Pandeglang, Banten. The findings and discussions of this study lead to a general conclusion regarding the concept of product diversification, which is categorized as good based on consumer ratings. This indicates that the highest indicator within the product diversification variable is consumer needs and expectations, while the lowest indicator pertains to ready-to-consume products. Furthermore, the purchasing decision variable is also categorized as good, with the highest indicator being product selection and the lowest indicator related to the choice of distribution channels.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Figurative Languages Used in Paulo Coelho's Novel 'The Alchemist'." This study aims to analyze the types of figurative language in the novel "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho using Perrine's theory (1977). The analysis method used refers to the semantic approach by considering Leech's (1969) theory to explore the meaning in various types of figurative language. The research data were obtained from the extraction of 92 figurative language sentences consisting of simile (24), metaphor (36), personification (27), hyperbole (1), antithesis (2), parallelism (1), idiom (1), metonymy (2), and paradox (1). The analysis also identified two main categories of meaning that are frequently used, namely associative meaning and connotative meaning. The findings provide deep insight into how Coelho utilizes different types of figurative language to enrich the reader's experience and convey profound messages in "The Alchemist". This research is expected to contribute to the understanding of literature and the use of figurative language in modern literary works.

Abstract

Abstract

This thesis analyses the conversational strategies in mixed-gender conversation in the Enola Holmes movie. This movie is chosen because it offers a representation of complex conversations between characters of different genders. This research uses a qualitative approach with discourse analysis method to identify and analyze the conversational strategies used by the characters in various contexts in the film. Data were collected through transcription of the film's dialogues and analysis using a conversational theory framework. The results of the analysis show that in conversations between mixed genders, the characters in Enola Holmes use a variety of conversational strategies to achieve their communicative goals, including hedging strategies, tag questions, empty adjectives, and super polite forms as per Robin Lakoff's 1975 theory. The results of this research analysis show that women tend to use the tag questions communication strategy which was found 8 times, then hedging and empty adjectives which were both found 7 times and finally super polite form which was found 6 times. The findings provide insights into how interactions between mixed genders are represented in films and the contribution of films in shaping our understanding of gender conversations

Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms is globally recognized as essential for enhancing teaching and learning processes. However, despite this acknowledged need, the specific application and perception of ICT use within Indonesian primary schools remain an under-researched area, representing a significant gap in the existing literature. This qualitative case study aimed to investigate Indonesian EFL teachers' perceptions of ICT utilization in their classrooms and to identify the critical factors influencing their decisions to adopt such technologies. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with two English teachers in a primary school located in Makassar, Indonesia. The principal findings indicate that the participating teachers held overwhelmingly positive attitudes toward ICT integration in their teaching practices. This favorable disposition was significantly shaped by several factors, including the perceived ease of use and the perceived usefulness of ICT tools, the teachers' underlying pedagogical beliefs, supportive school policies and curriculum mandates, the ready accessibility of technological resources, and the provision of professional development opportunities. Concurrently, the study identified notable challenges, such as student behavior related to technology misuse and the teachers' self-reported lack of sufficient ICT skills and confidence. A compelling observation from the findings is the coexistence of extensive ICT use and positive perceptions with a perceived lack of personal competence among teachers. This suggests that powerful external factors, such as institutional support and the clear utility of the technology, can be more influential in driving adoption than individual skill mastery or confidence in the initial stages. The implication is that confidence might develop as a consequence of sustained use, rather than being a prerequisite for it. This study offers valuable insights for practitioners and educational stakeholders committed to fostering effective ICT integration within EFL contexts, particularly in similar developing educational environments.
