Abstract

Indonesia is a plural country in many aspects, including: religion, customs, culture, language, and others. In fact, plurality has not only positive, but also negative impacts. Therefore, tolerance is an important value to maintain harmony in Indonesia. The purpose of this research is to examine Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's thoughts and their relevance to the issue of religious tolerance in Indonesia. This study is intended to present alternative ideas on religious tolerance from Hinduism, especially the advaitic framework through Radhakrishnan's thought. Methodologically, this research is literature research on the thoughts of figures. Qualitative paradigm is used in this research with the material object is religious tolerance according to Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Research data is obtained through document studies. Data analysis includes interpretative, holistic and descriptive. The results of this study show that religious tolerance according to Radhakrishnan is assimilation, non-discrimination and respect for the values of religions, and the ultimate goal is brotherhood. The basis of Radhakrishnan's thoughts on religious tolerance: 1) God as the ineffable ultimate reality. Thus, the truth is possible to be present in every religion, and 2) Tat Twam Asi is a non-dual form of religious awareness and experience (advaita), which implies unity, compassion, overcoming differences and conflicts.

Abstract

Background: The breeding of white cattle in Taro Village, Bali, is not merely an agricultural or economic activity, but one deeply intertwined with spiritual values rooted in the concept of Prāṇī-Dharma. In this context, white cattle are revered not only as symbols of prosperity and wealth, but also as sacred beings that embody harmony between humans and nature. This study aims to explore how the breeding of white cattle in Taro functions as a representation of Prāṇī-Dharma values, particularly in relation to the preservation of tradition and ecology.  Methods: Employing a qualitative case study approach, this research involved in-depth interviews with breeders, religious figures, and local community members, as well as field observations of rituals and cattle-rearing practices. The data were analyzed thematically to identify the connections between Hindu spiritual concepts and the practice of white cattle breeding.  Finding: The findings reveal that the breeding of Taro’s white cattle reflects an integration of spiritual and ecological dimensions within the local community. The white cattle are regarded as symbols of purity and environmental balance, protected through the principles of Ahimsa (non-violence) and Karuṇā (compassion), which lie at the heart of Prāṇī-Dharma. This practice also plays a vital role in the conservation of living beings and the preservation of local cultural traditions. Conclusion: The study concludes that the breeding of white cattle in Taro is not only a conservation practice but also a means of reinforcing moral and spiritual values within Hindu society. This research contributes to the understanding of the relationship between divine ecology and traditional conservation, enriching the discourse on how religion and local culture support environmental sustainability. Novelty/Originality of this article: The uniqueness of this study lies in the placement of white cattle breeding in Taro as an applied model of Prāṇī-Dharma, which shows how spiritual ethics directly influence conservation practices.

Abstract

The Kaharingan Hindu community represents an indigenous Dayak group residing in Central Kalimantan, distributed across fourteen districts and municipalities. One of these communities is located in Parit Village, Cempaga Hulu Subdistrict, East Kotawaringin Regency. Following its integration into Hinduism in 1980, various forms of religious guidance have been implemented; however, these efforts have not been fully optimal due to the vast geographical conditions of Central Kalimantan. This community service program conducted in Parit Village aims to strengthen the community’s śraddhā (faith) and jñāna (knowledge and understanding) of Hindu teachings. The program employed an outreach and educational approach focused on reinforcing the fundamental principles of Hinduism. Its implementation involved collaborative engagement with several partners, including the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (East Kotawaringin Office), the Kaharingan Hindu Council of Parit Village, and the active participation of the local Hindu community. The results indicate that many community members still lack comprehensive understanding of Hindu doctrines, partly due to limited access to sacred texts. Through the outreach activities, participants demonstrated improved comprehension of basic Hindu teachings, as evidenced by their ability to articulate and elaborate on the materials presented during the discussions.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the view that the ecological crisis constitutes a systemic polycrisis rooted not only in technological or policy failures but also in ontological assumptions that separate humans from nature. Although Advaita Vedānta is frequently associated with environmental ethics, existing scholarship largely remains at the level of metaphysical alignment without developing an operational normative framework. Accordingly, this research aims to explore Advaita Vedānta ontology as a foundation for ecological ethics through dialogue with contemporary ecotheology. It adopts a qualitative-philosophical method based on Gadamerian hermeneutics (fusion of horizons), interpreting the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita contextually while reconstructing the concepts of Brahman, Ātman, māyā, and avidyā to uncover their ethical implications. The findings demonstrate that the non-dual ontology of Advaita Vedānta can be transformed into a normative basis for ecological ethics through principles of ontological identity and self-extension, affirming the unity of all reality in Brahman. Moral awareness thus emerges as an expression of self-realization rather than an externally imposed duty. This framework bridges the gap between metaphysics and praxis by articulating ethical principles such as ahiṃsā, karuṇā, and sevā as concrete expressions of non-dual consciousness in ecological action. The study contributes to the development of an Advaita-based ecological ethics by integrating metaphysical insights with ethical praxis, reinterpreting ecological responsibility as a relational and transformative orientation rooted in non-dual unity. Ultimately, Advaita Vedānta offers a coherent ecotheological framework in which ecological responsibility arises as a rational and existential consequence of realizing the unity of reality.

This article discussed Huma betang's philosophy on its relevance to multicultural life. This research is library research with a qualitative approach. The material objects of this research were the philosophy of huma betang, multiculturalism and metaphysical unification in the Upanishads. The data in this study were obtained through a review of documents that correlated with material objects. The data analysis used in this study includes interpretation, holistic and descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that there is a harmony of views between the philosophy of huma betang, multiculturalism, and the Upanishads regarding the importance of fundamental values, which have an understanding and perspective that emphasizes interaction regarding the existence of every culture as an entity that has equal rights. The philosophy of huma betang, the unification of the Upanishad metaphysics, and multiculturalism have given rise to normative ideas about unity, harmony, tolerance, respect, appreciation, solidarity, equal rights of each culture and harmony.
