Abstract

13 Bom di Jakarta is an Indonesian movie inspired by Indodax's true story related to terrorism cases in 2015. This movie tells the story of a bomb terror case in Jakarta. In this movie, the Indonesian Counter Terrorism Agency receives a threat from a person who is considered a terrorist. The person said there were 13 bombs that they had spread throughout the city of Jakarta and the person asked for 100 Bitcoin through Indodax or they would explode the bomb every eight hours. This research aims to identify signs related to terrorism in the movie "13 Bom di Jakarta." and understand the meaning contained in these signs. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a semiotic research type. Data was obtained by watching the movie on Netflix and analyzed using John Fiske's semiotic theory to analyze the signs and reveal the meaning contained therein. The results showed that there were 9 scenes of terrorism ranging from bazooka shooting, firearm attacks, and bomb explosions in various locations such as the state money printing car, Jakarta Stock Exchange, MRT, and Soekarno-Hatta airport. At the level of reality, this movie displays the characters of Arok and his friends who are aggressive, mysterious, and cunning. At the representation level, cinematography, lighting, and music techniques are used to create a dramatic and tense feel. At the ideological level, the film represents terrorism as a major threat to the security and stability of the country.

Abstract

Purpose – This study analyzes the epistemological construction of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah in the thought of Jasser Auda and examines its relevance for strengthening family resilience as a preventive framework against contemporary radicalism. It seeks to demonstrate how Auda’s systems-based maqāṣid paradigm can respond to latent, cognitive, and domestic forms of radicalization by reinforcing inclusive and moderate family values. Design/methodology/approach – This research adopts a qualitative library-based method with a descriptive-analytical approach. It critically examines Auda’s principal works on maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah and applies ijtihād maqāṣidī within the framework of uṣūl al-fiqh. The analysis emphasizes systems thinking, multidimensional reasoning, and the developmental orientation of Islamic law in addressing contemporary social challenges. Findings – The study finds that Auda’s reformulation of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah shifts its orientation from classical ḥifẓ (protection) toward tanmiyah (development) and the realization of human dignity. In the context of family-based radicalism prevention, six interrelated indicators emerge: ḥifẓ al-dīn (balanced and tolerant religiosity), ḥifẓ al-nafs (psychological well-being and rejection of ideological violence), ḥifẓ al-‘aql (critical thinking and digital literacy), ḥifẓ al-nasl (healthy intergenerational relations), ḥifẓ al-māl (economic justice and ethical responsibility), and ḥifẓ al-usrah (family cohesion and moral accountability). Together, these dimensions form a maqāṣidī framework that enhances family resilience and functions as an epistemological safeguard against exclusivism and ideological rigidity. Research limitations/implications – While conceptually integrative, Auda’s maqāṣid framework remains largely normative and requires empirical operationalization. Future research should develop measurable indicators and apply them in family education, policy-making, and community-based prevention programs. Originality/value – This study offers a novel contribution by repositioning maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as a family-centered preventive framework against radicalism, enriching contemporary Islamic legal discourse with a holistic and context-sensitive perspective.

Abstract

The learning of Arabic numeracy (ʿadad wa al-maʿdūd) in many Islamic boarding schools is still dominated by a grammatical approach based on five complex number categories, often resulting in high cognitive load, frequent errors, and low student confidence. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Maʿdūd Classification method, which simplifies traditional classification into two main paths—mudhakkar and muʾannath—implemented through seven systematic teaching stages to reduce cognitive burden and improve Arabic numeracy mastery. The study employed a mixed-method design using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest model involving 30 beginner-level students at Darul Lughah Waddirasatil Islamiyah Islamic Boarding School, supported by interviews and participatory observation. The Paired Samples t-test showed a significant increase in mean scores from 46.00 to 88.07 (t = −81.49, df = 29, p 0.001), along with reduced standard deviation and coefficient of variation, indicating more consistent learning outcomes. Qualitative findings confirmed reduced memorization demands, clearer conceptual patterns, and a more positive learning experience. These results demonstrate that Maʿdūd Classification is an effective cognitive-load-based instructional model for improving Arabic numeracy literacy.
