Abstract

Universities play a key role in driving positive change by equipping students to address environmental and social challenges. This study examines how students at IPB University perceive various sustainability initiatives implemented on campus. Based on a survey of 1,545 undergraduate students, the research explores their knowledge, awareness, and interest in these efforts. The results show that while most students are familiar with the general concept (87.6%), fewer have knowledge of specific programs, institutional rankings, or the university’s Campus Sustainability Office. Nevertheless, nearly all respondents consider these efforts important (98.7%) and support active student involvement (97.2%). Many also express a desire to see these topics integrated into academic courses (84.9%).These findings highlight the need for improved internal communication and curriculum development to enhance student participation. The study offers both practical and academic insights for improving sustainability strategies in higher education institutions. Future research should include multiple universities and consider mixed-method approaches to better understand the factors influencing student engagement

Abstract

The agricultural sector is a contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and a vulnerable victim of climate change at the same time. Climate change has affected food stability and security, including rice. It is an essential commodity to pay attention to in terms of quantity, quality, and continuity. ice cultivation practices can threaten it. Climate-smart rice cultivation (CSRC) can be a solution and needs to be introduced to respond to these challenges. CSRC is one of the programs carried out by The World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF) through The ‘Rejoso Kita Phase 2’ project in Pasuruan District to respond to existing farming practices that are unsustainable, such as excessive use of rice seeds, water for irrigation, fertilizer use, and pesticide use. This study aims to determine the production factors of CSRC using the transcendental logarithmic (Translog) production function approach. One hundred sixty-eight farmers in Pasuruan were involved in the farmer household survey collected through a structured digital questionnaire. The constructed production function model utilized nine variables. Seeds, N fertilizer, P fertilizer, K fertilizer, chemical pesticide, and chemical pesticide variables were statistically significant, with only variable of K fertilizer having a negative effect. Meanwhile, land size, organic fertilizer, and labor are not significant. The average productivity of farmers is higher than the average productivity of Pasuruan District. Combating global warming can be achieved without sacrificing yields, and it can provide a better understanding to encourage wider adoption of CSRC innovation technology. Intensive extension and mentoring related to CSRC components for farmers is an essential policy implication that needs to be implemented to maximize rice productivity and reduce negative externalities.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: As one of the world’s largest coffee exporters, Indonesia has significantly increased its coffee export value. The rapidly growing global coffee market, with China being one of the largest, shows a promising potential. Nonetheless, Indonesia is facing stiff competition from other coffee-exporting countries.Purpose: This study analyzes the dynamics of Indonesia's coffee competitiveness in the Chinese market and the factors affecting coffee exports to the Chinese market.Design/methodology/approach: This research uses RCA, EPD, X-Model and Gravity models as analytical tools. Findings/Results: The RCA analysis shows that Indonesia has a comparative advantage during the two research periods, while the EPD analysis finds that Indonesia has successfully improved its competitive position from lagging to rising in the second period. In addition, the X-Model analysis shows that China had a lower potential market for Indonesia in the first period. However, this market becomes optimistic in the next period, so there is much potential to continue increasing coffee exports to this country. In addition, gravity model analysis shows that factors such as the real GDP of exporting countries and China's real GDP affect coffee exports to the Chinese market. Conclusion: Indonesia's competitiveness has improved in the Chinese market, and the economic growth of exporters and China is essential in driving coffee exports to the Chinese market.Originality/value (state of the art): This study explicitly highlights China's fast-growing non-traditional coffee market, which currently shows high growth rates in coffee consumption. Keywords: coffee, EPD, gravity model, X-Model, international trade
