Abstract

Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that poses a global health problem and is a leading cause of death worldwide, including in Indonesia. According to the 2018 Riskesdas data, the prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia reached 34.1%, with most cases occurring in the elderly. Addressing this issue requires a multidisciplinary approach and community empowerment. This study was conducted in RW 01, Kahuripan Village, Tawang District, Tasikmalaya City, aiming to enhance community awareness and skills in managing hypertension through education and the utilization of celery plants. The method used was a participatory descriptive approach. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions with community leaders and Posyandu cadres. Activities included education about hypertension, distribution of celery plants, and monitoring the community's application of the knowledge gained. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively to evaluate community responses and behavioral changes. The results showed a positive response from the community. Participants actively engaged in the educational sessions, started planting celery at home, and demonstrated increased awareness to regularly check their blood pressure at Posbindu. The education provided successfully improved the community's understanding of hypertension and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This study concludes that community-based empowerment is an effective strategy for addressing local health problems sustainably.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the leading non-communicable diseases causing global mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The elderly, as a group vulnerable to hypertension, often lack access to education and motivation to engage in physical activities. This study aims to raise awareness among the elderly about hypertension prevention through physical activity in the form of hypertension exercises and education on the benefits of tomato juice. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method conducted in Perumahan Batara RW 13, Tasikmalaya City, targeting elderly individuals at risk of hypertension.Data were collected through participatory observation and informal interviews, then analyzed based on success indicators. The findings show that this program successfully enhanced community knowledge about hypertension, encouraged active participation in physical activities, and motivated participants to utilize tomato juice as a preventive measure against hypertension. The high enthusiasm of participants during discussions and their willingness to adopt healthy lifestyles indicated the program's success. With improvements in implementation aspects, this program has the potential to be adopted in other regions as a community empowerment strategy to enhance elderly health.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are a serious health challenge in Indonesia, especially in Setiajaya Village, where low public awareness of NCD risk factors makes the condition worse. This study aims to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding NCDs through the "GEMPITA" program which teaches the use of organic waste to grow Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA). The community service method was used, involving planning, direct education, and pre-test and post-test based evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in participant understanding (p-value = 0.001) with 92% of participants showing increased knowledge. Enthusiasm and active interaction during the education session were indicators of success. These results suggest that the use of waste for TOGA can be implemented as a community step in preventing NCDs. The implications of this study point to the importance of expanding this education program to other areas and involving various stakeholders so that the impact is more significant.

Abstract

The problem of stunting as a chronic nutritional issue in Indonesia requires special attention, especially in areas with abundant local food potential such as Wargakerta Village, and Tasikmalaya Regency. The health care empowerment program is carried out to increase community participation in preventing stunting through managing local food-based supplementary feeding (PMT). This activity involved 28 health cadres, using outreach methods, showing video demonstrations of making tilapia fish nuggets and providing PMT recipes based on local resources. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed an increase in cadre knowledge of 89% after the activity. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test produces a p-value of 0.000, which indicates a significant difference before and after counseling. This program proves that innovations based on local food, such as tilapia fish nuggets, can increase health cadres' knowledge in supporting the growth and development of toddlers and reduce the risk of stunting

Abstract

Cigarettes have become a habit in society and bring negative effects to oneself and those around, one of which is the emergence of various diseases such as heart disease and vascular disorders. The method used in this community empowerment involves Rapid Rural Appraisal (RAA) by conducting physical interventions through several counseling sessions related to smoking issues and non-physical interventions in the form of installing no-smoking banners in homes. This empowerment activity was conducted in RW 04, Yudanagara Village, Cihideung, Tasikmalaya City. The community empowerment activities conducted include outreach and demonstrations as well as the installation of educational banners. The indicators of the success of the outreach are an increase in participants' knowledge through pre-test and post-test by 50% compared to their knowledge level before attending the outreach, as well as the implementation of a herbal drink-making demonstration. The educational banner contains content about the dangers of smoking indoors. The activities carried out were well-planned, and their implementation can be said to have gone smoothly and successfully.

Abstract

The results of the 2018 Riskesdas show an increase in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) compared to 2013 data, such as cancer, stroke, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, and hypertension. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus increased from 6.9% to 8.5%, while hypertension increased from 25.8% to 34.1% based on blood sugar and blood pressure examinations. In this context, community empowerment is very important to increase awareness of the importance of routine health checks and early detection of NCDs. One strategic effort is the establishment of Posbindu in each region to facilitate public health checks. However, several regions, including Cipta Graha Mandiri Housing in Tasikmalaya City, do not yet have Posbindu due to low community participation in routine health checks and limited procurement of Posbindu by the Health Center. This condition risks making people unaware of their health problems, which can cause serious complications and reduce quality of life. Through this empowerment program, it is hoped that the community will be more active in maintaining their health, carrying out early detection of NCDs, and increasing awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
