Abstract

Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) are multimicronutrient preparations containing 15 essential vitamins and minerals that play a critical role in preventing anemia and supporting fetal growth and development during pregnancy. Inadequate knowledge and negative attitudes among pregnant women toward MMS consumption may compromise adherence to supplementation regimens. This study aimed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of video and leaflet educational media in improving pregnant women’s knowledge and attitudes regarding MMS consumption. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group pretest–posttest approach. The study population consisted of 63 pregnant women in the working area of Sukomoro Primary Health Center (Puskesmas Sukomoro), Magetan Regency, East Java, with a sample of 60 respondents selected using simple random sampling, divided equally into a video group (n=30) and a leaflet group (n=30). Data were collected using validated knowledge and attitude questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test. Results showed that knowledge increased by 85.71% in the video group and 84.57% in the leaflet group, while attitudes improved by 67.55% in the video group and 103.71% in the leaflet group. Statistical analysis demonstrated significant improvements in both groups (p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in effectiveness between video and leaflet media in improving either knowledge (p = 0.059) or attitudes (p = 0.496) among pregnant women. Both video and leaflet educational interventions were effective in improving pregnant women’s knowledge and attitudes regarding MMS consumption, with no statistically significant difference between the two media types

Abstract

Menopause is a natural stage in a woman's life that is often accompanied by physical and psychological changes resulting from decreased estrogen levels. Limited knowledge of the factors influencing menopause may reduce women's readiness to cope with this transitional period. This community service program aims to improve women's knowledge and promote healthy lifestyle practices through research-based health education on the determinants of menopause. The methods employed include interactive health education sessions, group discussions, menopause exercise demonstrations, healthy nutrition education, distribution of educational leaflets, and the involvement of community health volunteers (Posyandu cadres) as facilitators. Program evaluation is conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess participants' knowledge improvement. The expected outcomes include increased knowledge among menopausal women, the availability of sustainable educational materials for Posyandu cadres, and the establishment of a menopause support group to strengthen community empowerment.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a critical period requiring adequate nutrition to maintain maternal and fetal health. Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) remains a major maternal health problem in Indonesia, often worsened by emesis gravidarum. This case report describes midwifery care in a primigravida woman with CED and persistent emesis gravidarum during the second trimester. A descriptive case report was conducted at Plaosan Primary Health Center, Magetan District, Indonesia, from March 1–15, 2026. The subject was a 23-year-old primigravida at 21 weeks of gestation. Data were collected through interviews, physical examinations, supporting investigations, and documentation review using the SOAP approach. Interventions included nutritional counseling, recommendations for small frequent meals, monitoring of weight and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), supplementation with multiple micronutrients (MMS), and provision of 200 g/day of boiled purple sweet potato for 14 days as a locally sourced supplementary food. The patient’s MUAC was 20 cm, confirming CED, while hemoglobin levels were 12 g/dL, indicating no anemia. After two weeks of intervention with three follow-up visits, improvements were observed: reduced frequency of nausea and vomiting, increased appetite, improved dietary patterns, and enhanced nutritional adequacy. Maternal weight gain was achieved, serving as an indicator of improved nutritional status. CED in this case was influenced by irregular pre-pregnancy dietary habits and reduced intake due to prolonged emesis gravidarum. The management strategy was consistent with evidence-based practice, as purple sweet potato supplementation provided essential nutrients and antioxidants that improved maternal nutritional status. The success of care was supported by adherence to nutritional counseling, supplementation compliance, family support, and continuous midwifery monitoring. Comprehensive midwifery careintegrating nutritional education, supplementation, local food-based interventions, and ongoing monitoring-proved effective in managing CED and emesis gravidarum. This approach improved maternal nutritional status, reduced pregnancy-related complaints, and minimized the risk of complications, supporting maternal and fetal health.

Abstract

Mild anemia and chronic energy deficiency (CED) are maternal nutritional problems that may coexist during pregnancy and can increase the risk of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. This case report describes comprehensive midwifery care for a pregnant woman with mild anemia and CED in the working area of Plaosan Public Health Center, Magetan, Indonesia. A descriptive case report was conducted from 9 to 24 March 2026. The participant was Mrs. A, 23 years old, G1P00000, at 21–22 weeks of gestation at the initial assessment. Data were collected through anamnesis, observation, physical and obstetric examinations, laboratory assessment, and review of the maternal health record. Care was documented using the SOAP framework and implemented through four visits over two weeks. The main outcomes monitored were symptoms, hemoglobin (Hb), body weight, mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), vital signs, fundal height, and fetal heart rate. At the first visit, the participant reported dizziness, fatigue, and blurred vision. Hb was 10.7 g/dL and MUAC was 21.5 cm, supporting the assessment of mild anemia and CED. Management included education on correct and regular iron-tablet intake, nutritional counseling, encouragement of iron-rich foods and balanced energy-protein intake, supportive date extract, ANC adherence, rest and activity management, danger-sign education, and P4K counseling. After four visits, the complaints resolved, Hb increased to 11.1 g/dL, body weight increased from 44.05 kg to 46.20 kg, and MUAC increased from 21.5 cm to 22 cm. Maternal vital signs remained stable and fetal heart rate remained within the normal range. Comprehensive and continuous midwifery care integrating iron supplementation, nutritional improvement, supportive date extract, education, and serial monitoring was associated with improvement in maternal symptoms, Hb, body weight, and MUAC in this case. Because MUAC remained below 23.5 cm, continued nutritional monitoring and follow-up are still required.

Abstract

Abstract

Intervensi meliputi edukasi gizi, peningkatan frekuensi makan, tablet Fe 2 kali sehari, Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) 1 kali sehari, PMT, sari kacang hijau 2 × 250 mL per hari, pemantauan berat badan, LILA, tanda vital, dan kesejahteraan janin. Setelah 13 hari, kadar hemoglobin meningkat menjadi 11,0 g/dL, berat badan naik dari 51,70 kg menjadi 53,20 kg, serta keluhan berkurang. LILA tetap 21 cm sehingga KEK belum teratasi.

Abstract

The success of exclusive breastfeeding remains a major issue in the working area of Panekan Health Center, driven by psychosocial factors such as mothers' inaccurate perceptions and anxiety. Exclusive breastfeeding coverage has fluctuated significantly, rising from 22.8% (2023) to 98.8% (2024), then declining again to 47.9% (2025). This study aimed to analyze the influence of perception and anxiety among breastfeeding mothers on the success of exclusive breastfeeding. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 152 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 6–11 months, selected using proportional simple random sampling from 17 villages. The perception was measured using a 24-item Health Belief Model (HBM) Likert-scale questionnaire, anxiety was measured using the 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), and the success of exclusive breastfeeding was measured using a structured ordinal questionnaire. Data were analyzed using an logistic regression test. Most respondents were of healthy reproductive age (86.2%), had a secondary education (62.5%), were unemployed (83.6%), and had one child (51.3%). The majority of mothers had a good level of perception (61.8%) and mild anxiety (38.8%), and 75% of respondents successfully exclusively breastfed for 6 months. The ordinal logistic regression test showed that perception had a significant effect on the success of exclusive breastfeeding (p less than 0.001), while anxiety had no significant effect (p more than 0.05). Breastfeeding mothers' perception was the dominant factor influencing the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Efforts to improve positive perceptions through lactation counseling and ongoing health education are urgently needed to increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage. In conclusion, mothers’ perception plays a crucial and statistically significant role in determining the success of exclusive breastfeeding, whereas anxiety does not demonstrate a meaningful influence.  Keywords: perception; anxiety; exclusive breastfeeding; Health Belief Model

Abstract

The breastfeeding process is a series of activities that a mother will undergo, especially after giving birth. During this process, there are various problems that may occur, one of which is a blocked milk duct. This condition happens when breast milk cannot flow optimally, triggering several symptoms such as swollen, painful, and hard breasts, causing discomfort during breastfeeding. Improper handling of a blocked milk duct can lead to mastitis. Until now, the incidence rate of blocked milk ducts is 36.12%, which of course affects the success of exclusive breastfeeding. What makes this case unique is the use of aloe vera massage therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention to help reduce blocked milk ducts. The aim of this case report is to evaluate the effectiveness of aloe vera massage in reducing blocked milk ducts in post-Cesarean mothers. This research is qualitative with a case report using a midwifery care approaches Mrs. H, a 32-year-old woman (P20002), on the 11th day postpartum following a Cesarean section, who presented with complaints of swelling, firmness, tenderness of the left breast, and decreased breast milk production. The breast engorgement was managed through breastfeeding education, breast care, maternal condition monitoring, and aloe vera massage therapy. The care was documented using the SOAP format during three home visits. Initial assessment revealed that the patient's left breast was swollen, firm, and tender on palpation, with a body temperature of 37.5°C and inadequate breast milk flow. Following the provision of comprehensive midwifery care and aloe vera massage therapy over three home visits, there was a noticeable reduction in breast swelling, decreased pain, normalization of body temperature to 36.8°C, and improved breast milk production. The mother also demonstrated improved breastfeeding techniques, and no signs of complications such as mastitis were observed. Aloe vera massage therapy, combined with breastfeeding education and breast care, was effective in reducing breast engorgement, improving breast milk flow, and enhancing maternal comfort in a postpartum mother following Cesarean section. This therapy may serve as an alternative complementary intervention for the management of breast engorgement. Keywords: Breast Engorgement; Postpartum; Aloe Vera Massage

Abstract

Pregnancy is a highly anticipated stage in a woman’s life, yet it is also a period associated with various health risks. Pregnancy complications and warning signs may go unrecognized, including nutritional problems that can adversely affect maternal and fetal health. Several maternal and pregnancy-related nutritional issues remain prevalent, such as chronic energy deficiency (CED), low birth weight (LBW), and anemia. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a nutrition education intervention using the Nutrition Snakes and Ladders game in improving pregnant women’s knowledge and attitudes toward nutrition during pregnancy. A quantitative quasi-experimental study was conducted using a non-equivalent pretest–posttest control group design at Banjarejo Community Health Center. A total of 40 pregnant women were recruited through cluster random sampling and allocated into an intervention group receiving the Nutrition Snakes and Ladders* educational game (n = 20) and a control group receiving conventional education through the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Handbook (n = 20). Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test and Mann–Whitney U test, with a significance level of 0.05. Following the intervention, the proportion of pregnant women with good nutritional knowledge in the intervention group increased to 95.0%, while those demonstrating positive attitudes reached 100.0%. The Wilcoxon test revealed a statistically significant difference in knowledge and attitudes before and after the intervention (p = 0.000). Furthermore, the Mann–Whitney U test demonstrated significant differences in knowledge and attitudes between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.001). The Nutrition Snakes and Ladders game was shown to be an effective educational medium for improving pregnant women’s nutritional knowledge and attitudes. As an interactive and easy-to-understand approach, this game may serve as an alternative health education strategy to support improved maternal and fetal health during pregnancy.
