Abstract

This research aims to examine the antibacterial activity of an ethanol extract of old sungkai leaves (DST) (Peronema canescens Jack) against the test bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis using the TLC-bioautography method. The concentration of the test extract was 15%, with the amount of extract spotting being 25 μL, and the eluent used was chloroform p.a. The results showed that the TLC chromatogram of DST ethanol extract showed 10 dense spots/spots, 6 spots of which could inhibit the growth of S. aureus (spots no. 2-7), and 7 of them (spots no. 1-7) could inhibit the growth of S. epidermidis. Spots with Rf = 0.06; 0.12; 0.27; 0.35 (spots no. 2-5) showed a larger clear zone than spots with Rf = 0.47 and 0.64 (spots no. 6-7) in inhibiting S. aureus. Meanwhile, spot number 1 (Rf = 0) showed the clearest zone among the other 6 spots in inhibiting S. epidermidis. In conclusion, the ethanol extract of old sungkai leaves (DST) has strong antibacterial properties against S. aureus and S. epidermidis. The results of this research have the potential to be developed to obtain potential candidate compounds as antibacterials from sungkai leaves. Abstract

Pelatihan pembuatan minuman jahe instan telah dilakukan di Desa Taba Air Pauh, Kecamatan Tebat Karai, Kabupaten Kepahiang, Provinsi Bengkulu. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat terkait pengolahan jahe, serta mempromosikan kewirausahaan berbasis industri rumahan. Jahe, sebagai komoditas lokal yang melimpah, memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi produk minuman instan dengan nilai ekonomi yang lebih tinggi. Melalui metode ceramah dan praktek langsung, peserta diberikan pelatihan tentang cara mengolah jahe menjadi minuman sehat siap seduh. Hasil kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat telah memahami proses pembuatan minuman jahe instan dan manfaatnya. Diharapkan kegiatan ini dapat membantu meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat Desa Taba Air Pauh dengan memanfaatkan potensi lokal.

Abstract

Elektroplating timah memiliki banyak keunggulan sehingga menarik untuk diteliti lebih lanjut, penelitian lainnya telah menunjukkan hasil yang baik untuk pelapisan timah dengan penambahan senyawa organik sebagai inhibitor. Aditif yang digunakan dapat bersifat organik ataupun sintetis. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah untuk mengkaji hasil-hasil penelitian elektroplating timah yang telah dilaporkan pada jurnal terdahulu, baik jurnal nasional maupun internasional. Hasil elekroplating dipengaruhi oleh aditif, kerapatan arus dan larutan elektrolit yang digunakan pada proses plating. Hasil kajian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan gambaran bagaimana perkembangan dari penelitian mengenai elektroplating logam sehingga dapat dijadikan rujukan untuk penelitian dengan topik sejenis di kemudian hari.

Abstract

Elektrodeposisi atau elektroplating merupakan proses elektrokimia yang diterapkan untuk modifikasi struktur permukaan, yang dapat memperbaiki permukaan logam yang rusak dan meningkatkan penampilan dan kinerjanya. Penambahan zat aditif sintetik maupun ekstrak tanaman yang dapat digunakan cukup beragam, keduanya memiliki efektivitas masing-masing dalam menghasilkan morfologi permukaan yang lebih halus, meningkatkan kilap, dan struktur kristal yang merata. Banyak faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi kualitas lapisan, mulai dari zat aditif yang digunakan, konsentrasi larutan, kerapatan arus, dan suhu larutan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan aktivitas anti termitisida ekstrak metanol daun ruku-ruku (Ocimum tenuiflorum) terhadap rayap Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren menggunakan metode no- choice test dan penentuan komponen kimia menggunakan GC-MS. Hasil uji aktivitas termitisida diperoleh persentase tase kematian rayap meningkat seiring dengan naiknya konsentrasi yang diberikan, konsentrasi 20% menyebabkan kematian rayap mencapai 100% pada hari ke-7. Hasil GC-MS menunjukkan terdapat 70 komponen kimia pada ekstrak metanol daun ruku-ruku dimana terdapat 3 senyawa utama, 53 senyawa minor serta 14 senyawa yang belum terdeteksi, dengan senyawa utamanya adalah methyl palmitate, methyl linolenate dan 14-methyl pentadecanoic acid methyl ester.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the application of liquid smoke as a possible antibacterial agent. The studies were identified by conducting searches on multiple electronic databases, specifically Semantic Scholar, PubMed, and Google Scholar, from 2013 to 2024. The keywords used included ‘antibacterial of wood vinegar, antibacterial of pyroligneous extract, antibacterial of pyroligneous acid, antibacterial of wood distillate, antibacterial activity of liquid smoke, and aktivitas antibakteri asap cair (in Bahasa Indonesia)’. The results indicate that liquid smoke has the capacity to serve as a natural antibacterial agent against both Gram positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. The variation in antibacterial susceptibility may arise from the composition of chemical compounds present in liquid smoke, the raw materials employed in its production, the temperature of pyrolysis, and the specific testing methodology employed. This review will be useful to the industrial and scientific communities in the food science, pharmaceutical, and technology fields.

Abstract

The kabau plant (Archidendron bubalinum) is an endemic plant of Indonesia, especially on the island of Sumatra, with secondary metabolite content in the form of flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids which have antimicrobial activity. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of kabau fruit peels (Archidendron bubalinum) against Staphylococcus aureus and to determine the optimum percentage of extract in inhibiting Staphylococcus aureus with percentages 1%, 2.5%, 5% and 10%. The antibacterial activity of kabau fruit peels extract was tested by the well diffusion method using Nutrient Agar (NA) media. The results showed that ethanol extract of kabau fruit peels with a percentage of 10% was the optimum percentage in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus with an inhibition zone diameter of 10.59 mm. From the data, it can be concluded that the extract of kabau fruit peels has the potential as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus with a sensitive inhibitory category.

Abstract

This study aims to synthesize chitosan nanoparticles - n-hexane extract of Cinnamomum parthenoxylon (CP) fruit using the ionic gelation method, to characterize them, and to determine their antifungal activity against the wood-rotting fungi Trametes versicolor and Fomitopsis palustris. Chitosan-CP extract nanoparticles were formulated with chitosan:Na-TPP:CP extract ratio of 1:1:0.5. Particle size and polydispersity index were determined using a particle size analyzer (PSA), and particles morphology was observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), and antifungal activity was measured using agar media. The results revealed that the average size of chitosan nanoparticles (base) was 276.9 nm, while the average size of chitosan-CP extract nanoparticles was 807.6 nm. The polydispersity index (PI) of both nanoparticles was greater than 0.7. Observations of the nanoparticles' morphology revealed that aggregation/agglomeration formed in the resulting particles. Both nanoparticles chitosan (base) and chitosan-CP extract inhibited the growth of white rot fungi (T. versicolor) more than brown rot fungi (F. palustris), as measured by the inhibitory zone.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look into the antibacterial activity of methanolic extract of Excoecaria cochinchinensis as well as the effect of its combination with antibiotics on the growth of Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterobacter aerogenes, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The antibacterial activity test was carried out using the well diffusion method, and the combined effect of the extract and antibiotics was observed using the paper strip diffusion method. At various concentrations (25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 200, and 250 mg/mL), the extract significantly inhibited the growth of K. pneumoniae, E. aerogenes, and S. epidermidis. The inhibitory zone's diameter increased proportionally with the extract concentration. The growth of K. pneumoniae and S. epidermidis was then classified as extremely sensitive (+++) to the addition of the extract at 200 and 250 mg/mL concentrations, meanwhile, E. aerogenes’s with 250 mg/mL of the extract. Secondary metabolites such as oleanolic acid, arjunolic acid, scopoletin, kaempferol, quercetin, diterpenoid compounds, tannins, and other phenolics have been reported from E. cochinchinensis leaves and are thought to be responsible for its antimicrobial activity. The effect of the extract’s combination with antibiotics was insignificant compared to their individual activity, thereby classifying them as indifferent.
