Abstract

Gunungsari Village, renowned for its camping and natural tourism attractions nestled amidst mountains and rivers, faces potential hazards such as snake bites and fractures resulting from falls. Prompt and appropriate first aid and treatment are crucial in mitigating the risks associated with these incidents. However, there is a notable gap in public knowledge regarding snake bite management and the availability of antivenom, which can exacerbate mortality rates. In response, the community service team from Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences, The University of Muhammadiyah Semarang initiated a training program aimed at educating locals about snake bite management and splinting techniques. Fifteen participants, comprising members of the disaster management agency team in the Boja area, engaged in the training sessions. While possessing foundational knowledge, participants acknowledged the novelty and importance of information regarding snake venom management. Pre-training assessments revealed an average knowledge score of 68, which significantly increased to 84 post-training, indicating a substantial improvement in understanding. Additionally, simulation exercises assessing splint application demonstrated commendable proficiency among participants, with an average score of 82. The training initiative underscores the significance of enhancing community preparedness in managing medical emergencies such as snake bites and fractures. The newfound knowledge and skills acquired through the training sessions equip participants with the ability to administer timely and effective first aid in emergency situations. Continuous training efforts are recommended to sustain and further enhance the preparedness of Gunungsari Village residents in addressing medical emergencies in the future.

Abstract

Surgery or surgical procedure is a medical procedure performed on the body to improve physical function. This mechanism is a form of medical treatment that can cause feelings of fear, anxiety, and worry. The pre-surgical concept is part of perioperative nursing and initial preparation before entering the operating room. During this period, patients generally experience psychological changes such as feelings of anxiety, fear, and stress. Feelings of anxiety can lead to an unstable condition characterized by increased blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate. During this period, patients generally experience psychological changes such as feelings of anxiety, fear, and stress. Feelings of anxiety can lead to an unstable condition characterized by increased blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, nausea/vomiting, and restlessness, which will interfere with the surgical process. One nursing intervention that can be done to reduce anxiety is Benson's relaxation therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the application of Benson relaxation therapy in reducing the anxiety level of preoperative patients. This final scientific research is a descriptive study in the form of a case study conducted in the IBS room of the Karanganyar Regional General Hospital. The subject of this case study was one pre-operative patient with anxiety. The subject of this case study was one pre-operative patient with anxiety. This therapy pen is performed using the Benson Relaxation Therapy Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and the measurement of the patient's anxiety level using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The conclusion drawn is that Benson's relaxation therapy is effective in reducing preoperative anxiety levels in patients. This is evidenced by the results of the measurement of anxiety levels before therapy, which showed a score of 25 (moderate anxiety), and after therapy, which decreased to a score of 17 (mild anxiety).

Abstract

Accurate patient identification is a main goal of patient safety in health services, as it prevents mistreatment that can cause serious injury or death. Yet, nursing practice shows ongoing non-compliance by health workers with standard procedures, raising medical error risks. Thus, systematically studying non-compliance with patient identification as a mistreatment risk factor is essential. This study analyzes the concept of patient identification non-compliance via Walker and Avant's eight-stage approach. Data came from a systematic review of 60 peer-reviewed articles (2011–2025) from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Results reveal characteristics like failure to follow standards, pre-intervention occurrence, health worker involvement, and intentional/unintentional nature. Antecedents include individual factors, service systems, and work environments. Consequences encompass heightened mistreatment risk, procedural errors, patient injuries, legal/psychological impacts on nurses, and institutional losses. In conclusion, non-compliance with patient identification is a key patient safety concept and triggers major mistreatment. Strengthening compliance requires continuous education, system support, and robust safety culture in facilities.

Abstract

Polymenorrhea is a menstrual cycle disorder characterized by an interval of less than 21 days, indicating an imbalance in reproductive hormones among adolescent girls. This condition not only causes physical discomfort such as fatigue, abdominal pain, and excessive bleeding but also affects psychological well-being, leading to stress, anxiety, and decreased learning concentration. One of the major contributing factors to polymenorrhea in adolescents is nutritional imbalance combined with poor stress management skills. Preliminary observations revealed that adolescent girls in RW 01, Mangunharjo Village, experienced a high prevalence of polymenorrhea, low knowledge of balanced nutrition, and high levels of academic and social stress. This community service program aims to improve adolescents’ knowledge and skills regarding reproductive health, balanced nutrition, and stress management as preventive measures against menstrual cycle disorders. The activities were conducted through interactive education sessions, personal mentoring, and regular monitoring of behavioral changes and menstrual patterns. The educational approach emphasized active participation and direct application in daily life. It is expected that this structured intervention will enhance adolescents’ awareness and adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviors, reduce the incidence of polymenorrhea, and promote sustainable physical and mental well-being. Furthermore, the outcomes of this program are expected to serve as a model for empowering adolescents to maintain reproductive health through simple, non-pharmacological, and community-based approaches.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible decline in renal function, often necessitating long-term hemodialysis. Anxiety is a prevalent psychological concern among CKD patients, potentially influenced by treatment duration and the level of family support. This study aimed to examine the correlation between hemodialysis duration, family support, and anxiety levels among patients with CKD at Dr. Kariadi General Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted involving 89 hemodialysis patients, selected through a non-probability sampling method from total of 165 CKD patients with hemodialysis. Data collection occurred between July 2023 and March 2024, utilizing three instruments: a demographic questionnaire, the Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety (HRS-A), and the Family Support Scale (FSS). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate approaches, including Spearman’s rank correlation test. A significant negative correlation was found between the duration of hemodialysis and anxiety levels, indicating that patients undergoing hemodialysis for a longer period tended to experience lower anxiety. Similarly, higher levels of family support were significantly associated with lower anxiety scores (p<0.001). Both longer hemodialysis duration and stronger family support are associated with reduced anxiety in CKD patients. Enhancing family involvement and providing consistent education about hemodialysis care may contribute to better psychological well-being in this population.

Abstract

Patients with epilepsy may experience anxiety during long-term electroencephalography (EEG) monitoring. Family support represents a key psychosocial factor that may influence patients’ psychological responses during this diagnostic procedure. This study aimed to examine the association between family support and anxiety among patients with epilepsy undergoing long-term EEG monitoring. A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted involving 115 patients with epilepsy who underwent long-term EEG monitoring at Dr. Kariadi Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia. Family support was assessed using the Family Support Scale, whereas anxiety was measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation test. The mean family support score was 40.41, with the majority of respondents reporting moderate levels of family support (52.2%). The mean anxiety score was 24.73, and the majority of respondents experienced moderate levels of anxiety (46.1%). Family support was significantly and negatively correlated with anxiety (r = −0.639, p < 0.001). Family support was significantly associated with anxiety among patients with epilepsy undergoing long-term EEG monitoring. These findings underscore the importance of integrating family-centered nursing interventions to enhance psychological support during diagnostic procedures.
