Abstract

The financial sector is referred to as one of the factors influencing the monetary crisis. This study examined the relationship between the banking development score in the dual banking system model and economic growth in Indonesia. This study used a quantitative method, using the VECM approach and the Granger Causality model. The findings showed that Conventional Banking Credit Growth, Sharia Banking Financing Growth, PMTB, LDR and FDR, and ROA of conventional and Sharia banks had a positive effect on economic growth in Indonesia. The inflation variables, NPF, and NPL had a negative effect on economic growth in Indonesia. This finding provided us with an understanding that the existence of Sharia banking could drive economic growth in Indonesia. In conventional banks, in the long term, there was a long-term relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variables. This study provided new insights into the influence of the banking sector on economic growth in Indonesia, highlighting the importance of synergy between conventional and Islamic banking in creating diverse financial instruments and enhancing access to banking services, especially in areas with limited financial access.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the management control systems of print entrepreneurs around Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK). The main issue was the lack of understanding and implementation of effective control systems, leading to operational inefficiencies. Using a Service Learning approach, 10 entrepreneurs participated in training led by experts from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and USK. The training covered management control concepts and introduced basic technology tools to support business operations. Results showed a 25% increase in participants' understanding of management control systems and an 85% adoption rate of the techniques and technologies introduced. These improvements contributed to better business efficiency and align with Sustainable Development Goal 8, which emphasizes decent work and economic growth. This activity demonstrated that tailored training programs can significantly enhance small business operations and can be replicated for broader impact.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has created a pressing need for digital transformation in various sectors, including entrepreneurship. However, many students and academics still lack adequate understanding and skills to identify future business opportunities through digital approaches. This community service activity, titled Digital Transformation Education for Identifying Future Business Opportunities, was conducted to address this issue. The program involved students and lecturers from Telkom University's Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Syiah Kuala University. Using the Service Learning (SL) approach, the activity was carried out through an online seminar that combined theoretical explanations and interactive discussions with digital business practitioners. Two experts in Islamic economics and information technology served as the resource persons. The activity aimed to increase digital literacy and entrepreneurial awareness among participants. Assessment through pre-test and post-test evaluations revealed a significant improvement in understanding, with the average score increasing from 63.5 to 85.8. The results demonstrate that structured digital transformation education can effectively enhance the capacity of the academic community in identifying and developing digital-based business opportunities. This activity also contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting quality education, decent work and economic growth, and fostering innovation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the impact of capital structure and financial performance of Islamic banks on price stability in Indonesia using an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model with quarterly data from 2014 to 2024. Key variables include the Capital Adequacy Ratio, Total Regulatory Capital, Tier 1 Capital, Risk-Weighted Assets, Net Income, and the Consumer Price Index. Long-term findings reveal that robust capital indicators enhance price stability by strengthening banks' resilience and credit capacity. In contrast, Net Income mitigates inflationary pressure in the long run but intensifies it in the short term. The error correction term confirms rapid adjustment toward equilibrium after short-term shocks. These results underscore the critical role of sound capital and profitability in reinforcing Islamic banks’ contribution to Indonesia’s monetary policy, offering valuable insights for policymakers and regulators in promoting macroeconomic stability.

Abstract

This study investigates how energy dependence and trade structure influence current-account sustainability in the ASEAN-5 (Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam) over 2014–2023. Focusing on the region’s vulnerability to energy price volatility and evolving trade patterns, the analysis evaluates long- and short-run relationships between the current account, energy trade balance, overall trade balance, real GDP per capita, and exchange rate movements. A panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model with a Pooled Mean Group (PMG) estimator is applied, and long-run robustness is verified using panel Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS). The results confirm a stable long-run equilibrium in which both energy and non-energy trade balances significantly and positively contribute to current-account positions. Higher real income and a depreciated exchange rate are also associated with sustained current-account improvements, reflecting capacity expansion and expenditure-switching effects. Short-run adjustments differ across countries, shaped by their import dependence, energy mix, and external balance-sheet conditions. Robustness checks affirm the stability of the estimated long-run relationships. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening energy trade resilience, enhancing non-energy tradable sectors, and maintaining prudent exchange-rate flexibility to support external sustainability in the ASEAN-5.
