Abstract

Bipolar disorder is a chronic mental condition that affects patients’ quality of life. The management process is affected by acceptance of illness. The ability to accept the illness is related to the spirituality level which is something that is held strongly by Indonesian people. There has been very little research related to the relationship between spirituality with bipolar disorder. This study aimed to analyze relationship between spirituality levels with acceptance of illness in patients with bipolar disorder. This study is a correlational study using questionnaire from bipolar disorder patients contacted through Harmony in Diversity online community as a sample. Samples were taken in total sampling according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The numbers of samples were 30 samples. Calculation of the correlation between acceptance of illness in patients with bipolar disorder with vertical spirituality (RWB) (p = 0.050) (r = 0.306), horizontal spirituality (EWB) (p = 0.001) (r = 0.556), and general spirituality (SWB) (p = 0.007) (r = 0.444). There is a significant positive correlation between acceptance of illness in patients with bipolar disorder and general spirituality with a more significant horizontal dimension compared to vertical dimension.

Abstract

Introduction: Muscles are the largest tissue group in the body and can be classified into various classifications, one of which is based on their morphological shape. Examination of muscles, especially skeletal muscles, can use electromyography. The purpose of this study was to determine whether muscles that have similar morphology have no different electromyogram.Method: This is a descriptive observational study using needle electromyography. The sample amounted to 5 with five times MUP (Motor Unit Potential) in each musculus deltoideus and musculusResult: The mean amplitude, duration, number of voltage phases and the number of voltage turns off the musculus deltoideus and musculus gluteus medius in the study subjects were similar (p-value greater than 0.05).Conclusion: Muscles that have similar morphology in each parameter of amplitude, duration, number of voltage phases, and number of voltage turns do not have a significant difference in electromyogram.

Abstract

Specific ABO blood type was reported to the higher risk of having overweight and obesity. The laters had also been suggested to correlate to blood pressure. Here we studied blood type and blood pressure amongst seemingly healthy university students of IIKBW, Kediri to understand their correlations to the body mass index (BMI). The blood typing (ABO typing, Eryclone®) and blood pressure (automated digital sphygmomanometer) of 74 male and 76 female were measured in duplicate accordingly. The BMI was analysed from the student's body weight and height using a digital balance and a microtoise staturemeter, respectively. Data were analysed using SPSS 17 with p<0.05 level of significance. There were 18.7% students have A blood type, 31.3% students were B type, 44% were O and 6.0% with AB blood type. There were 30.7% students with obesity, 18% overweight, 36% normal weight and 15.3% underweight. There were 4.7% had a hypertension, 28.7% pre-hypertension, and 66.7% were normal. No significant correlations found between BMI or the blood pressure to any specific ABO blood type, except between the blood pressure and the AB blood type (r=-0.179, p=0.03). However, there was a significant correlation between BMI and blood pressure (r=0.327, p=0.000). We observed no significant associations between any specific ABO blood type with the BMI and blood pressure. However, high blood pressures amongst students with obesity were found. Males were more common to suffer from obesity and high blood pressure than females.

Abstract

Poor oral health has been reported to correlate to the body mass index (BMI) of the overweight and the obesity groups. These has yet widely studied in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to analysed the oral health, socioeconomy factors (FSE) and the BMI in the seemingly healthy university students in Kediri aged 18-21 years old. This cross-sectional study was conducted amongst male and female students of IIKBW, Kediri, Indonesia (n=150). We analysed their BMI from the body weight and height (kg/m2). Their oral health was determined by the DMFT index (decayed missing filled teeth index), the stimulated salivary flow rate (SSFR) and the gingival index (GI). FSE studied include father's highest education and monthly income, tooth brushing frequency in a day and dental floss habitual use. Data was analysed using SPSS 17 with level of significance of p<0.05. No significant differences in BMI, DMFT index, SSFR and GI respectively (p=0.411;p=0.037, p=0.880, p=0.142) between male and female groups. No significant corelation BMI with DMFT index, SSFR and GI, respectively (p=0.340, p=0.420, p=0,446). FSE are not significantly correlated to either the BMI, DMFT index, SSFR orGI (p > 0.05). There were 41.8% of males and 57.8% of females have "bad” score of DMFT and 98.6% of males and 92.1% of females have "bad” score of GI; 4.1% of males and 2.6% of females have low score of SSFR.Although we found no significant differences in the BMI and oral health parameters between genders, in the seemingly healthy young adults oral health hygiene could be compromised as found in the current study indicated by bad scores of DMFT, SSFR or GI. Here we found that either BMI or FSE was not significantly correlated to any of oral health parameters measured in the current study.
