Abstract

Education influences students to be innovative, creative, and productive individuals. The study aims to find out the impact of gamification media use on educational activities in schools in Surakarta. Quantitative Research Methods with Survey Approaches to Higher Secondary Schools in Surakarta. Measurements in using SPSS 25 with Cronbach’s alpha variable learning media gamification and pupil activity, normality tests, heterocadastisity tests, deviations, correlation values, and determination coefficients (R square) The collection shows that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted because the regression factor has a value of significance < 0.05, so some suggest that there is a significant influence between the use of gamified media and activation. The study results show that the correlations or relations values table (R) is 0.335 and a determination factor (R square) of 0.112 means that the influence of the gamifying media (X) on the activity (Y) is 11.2%, partially suggesting that there are significant influences between the usage of gamification media and student activity.

Abstract

In the era of the Industry 5.0 revolution, learning is transformed by the digitalization of education. The background of this research is the very rapid development of computing in education, which requires the use of educational software and human resources (SDM). This involvement will have an impact on students in learning at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Surakarta. Qualitative research methods were used with a case study approach by subject research teachers and students of the Seventh Grade Madrasah Tsanawiyah Surakarta. Data collection techniques include documentation, observations, and interviews. Analysis techniques using triangulation of sources, methods, and techniques. Research results show that students are involved through technology in digital classroom collaboration by creating teaching materials using applications, viewing students on computer screens, and making computational-based questions. Implementation of digital use to maintain teachers currently has not been collaborative. Teacher understanding with discussions, workshops using innovative LCD learning processes with facilities, Flip Books, and one-month workshop positions inside the school. The researchers’ findings show that the use of digital media is very helpful in developing student understanding; students are more actively following learning as well. Contributing to teachers’ creation of Flip Books as a learning module.

Abstract

Teachers must be capable of shaping individuals who can adapt to computational thinking skills. Learning styles impact students' performance and learning outcomes. This study examine the computational thinking abilities of prospective mathematics teachers from the perspective of visual, auditory, kinesthetic learning styles. A qualitative approach was used in this study, specifically a case study research design. The subjects of this study were first-semester students in the Mathematics Education program enrolled in the Basic Mathematics course. Research instruments: written tests, learning style questionnaires, interviews. The test questions were validated by three mathematics education experts and piloted with four students. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that learning style influenced students' computational thinking skills. Kinesthetic students demonstrated proficiency across all indicators of computational thinking ability. Visual and auditory students struggled with algorithmic thinking and pattern recognition. However, visual and auditory students, like kinesthetic students, performed well in abstraction and decomposition.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the computational thinking skills of junior high school students in terms of FI and FD cognitive styles on materials with numerical patterns. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive. The subjects of the study were 57 students from class VIII at one of the public junior high schools in Jepara. The data collection instruments used are computational thinking test questions, GEFT tests, and interviews. Researchers adopted three questions from the Pusmendik Kemdikbud class VIII to test students' computational thinking skills. All questions were validated by three mathematics education experts and tested on 5 grade VIII students before being used. In this study, four components of computational thinking: abstraction, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and generalization were used to analyze students' computational thinking skills. This study focused on exploratory examination of pupils’ computational thinking with high categories, researchers selected 3 students on FI cognitive style and 2 students on FD cognitive style. The results showed that students with a FI cognitive style were able to meet all indicators of computational thinking namely abstraction, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and decomposition. In contrast, students with FD cognitive styles are able to meet three indicators of computational thinking: abstraction, pattern recognition and generalization. Thus, it may be said that the ability to think computationally is related to the cognitive style of students.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in the independent curriculum emphasizes the pedagogical dimension which aims to create active students so that they are able to develop their thinking patterns and get them used to finding solutions to their own problems. This study uses qualitative methods to investigate elementary school students' abilities through computational thinking, focusing on the cognitive styles of Field Independence (FI) and Field Dependence (FD). The subjects in this study amounted to 14 fifth grade students of public elementary schools in Klaten Regency, Central Java Province. Researchers used data collection instruments in the form of test, learning style questionnaires and interviews. The number of test compiled consisted of 5 items. Before use, the test were validated by 3 mathematics education experts and tested on 5 fifth grade students. After validation and testing, the test that can be used consist of 3 test.  Based on the results of tests and learning style questionnaires, research took one of the students' test results with a Field Independent learning style and 1 student with a Field Dependent learning style. The results of this study indicate that there are differences in the computational thinking process of the two subjects in solving problems. At the abstraction stage, FI students are able to answer important factors that need to be considered in making conclusions, FI students are also able to explain alternative solutions to the problems given appropriately. Meanwhile, FD students tend to work directly so they tend to experience errors at the pattern recognition, algorithm thinking and generalization stages. Thus, it can be concluded that students with a field independent cognitive style are more active in using computational thinking processes than students with a field dependent cognitive style.

Abstract

Proportional Reasoning is a complex mathematical way of thinking about interconnected ideas such as multiplication and division of whole numbers, fractions, ratios, powers, measurements, and percent. This research aims to identify students' thinking processes in solving decimal problems that require proportional reasoning. This research was conducted on 5th grade elementary school students in Klaten, Central Java, Indonesia, using test instruments, interviews and documentation studies. The test given consists of five types of questions, namely tests on questions that require students to use additive, multiplicative thinking skills, use reasonable or appropriate ratios, build unit structures (groupings), and understand invariants. The research results found that the proportional reasoning indicator that was more dominantly used by students was the ability to think multiplicatively, while the sub-indicators were writing and completing calculations but the final results were not correct. Apart from that, other findings explain that the low ability is due to the prerequisite material not being mastered, students not understanding the questions, and students not understanding the concept of the topic. Thus, these results confirm that proportional reasoning abilities in grade 5 elementary school are still quite low.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita aljabar ditinjau dari gaya kognitif Field Independent (FI) dan Field Dependent (FD). Indikator yang digunakan yakni (1) Koneksi antar topik dalam matematika. (2) Koneksi antar topik matematika dengan disiplin ilmu lain. (3) Koneksi antar topik matematika dengan kehidupan sehari-hari. Subjek dari penelitian ini ialah siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta yang kemudian dipilih 2 siswa sebagai subjek FI dan FD. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes dan wawancara. Keabsahan data menggunakan metode tringulasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan jika siswa kategori FI sudah mampu memahami permasalahan dan mengaitkan permasalahan dengan ketiga indikator koneksi matematis dengan baik. Sedangkan siswa kategori FD kurang mampu dalam memahami permasalahan yang ada, serta belum mampu mengaitkan permasalahan pada soal dengan ketiga indikator dari koneksi matematis. Siswa dengan kategori FD belum mampu menemukan solusi dari permasalahan pada soal. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan jika kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa dengan kategori field independent sudah baik, sedangkan kemampuan koneksi matematis siswa dengan kategori Field dependent masih kurang baik.

Abstract

Analisis merupakan salah satu cabang penting di dalam ilmu matematika. Materi-materi yang dipelajari di dalam analisis banyak yang saling berhubungan satu sama lain. Peta konsep adalah salah satu strategi di dalam pembelajaran matematika yang dapat memperlihatkan hubungan antar konsep pada suatu topik materi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan pelaksanaan pembelajaran peta konsep pada materi perkuliahan Sistem Bilangan Riil. Jenis penelitian kualitatif, dengan subyek penelitian adalah mahasiswa semester IVB yang menempuh mata kuliah Pengantar Analisis Riil di Program Studi Pendidikan Matematika Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta Tahun 2017/2018. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, catatan lapangan, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Keabsahan data dengan triangulasi metode dan penyidik. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode alur yang terdiri dari reduksi data, penyajian data dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah pelaksanaan pembelajaran peta konsep pada perkuliahan Sistem Bilangan Riil terdiri dari langkah-langkah: penelusuran materi, penentuan ide-ide utama dan tambahan, penyusunan peta konsep materi dan verifikasi. Melalui pembelajaran yang berbasis peta konsep, mahasiswa lebih mudah di dalam melakukan pembuktian-pembuktian teorema pada materi Sistem Bilangan Riil.

Abstract

Kreatifitas sangat diperlukan untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Pembelajaran matematika merupakan salah satu pembelajaran yang menekankan kreatifitas seseorang yang digunakan untuk menafsirkan dan menyelesaikan permasalahan matematika. Kreatifitas dalam pemecahan masalah matematika dapat ditinjau dari komponen-komponen yang meliputi: kelancaran, fleksibilitas dan kebaruan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kreatifitas mahasiswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan modul pembelajaran berbasis pemecahan masalah pada materi aljabar. Subjek penelitian meliputi mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika semester I kelas B Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta tahun ajaran 2016/2017 yang terdiri dari 5 mahasiswa yang mewakili untuk menjadi subjek wawancara. Subjek wawancara yang dipilih yaitu 3 mahasiswa dengan nilai post-test tinggi dan 2 mahasiswa dengan nilai post-test rendah. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa: kreatifitas mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan kontekstual materi aljabar sebelum dan sesudah diberikan modul pembelajaran berbasis pemecahan masalah tidak berbeda. Level kreatifitas mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan berada pada level kreatif, kurang kreatif dan tidak kreatif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pemahaman konseptual siswa dalam konsep lingkaran dengan menggunakan peta konsep. Jenis penelitian adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian dilakukan pada 3 siswa kelas XI IPA 1 SMA N 1 Ampel semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Teknik pengumpulan data observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi. Keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi metode. Teknik analisis data dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menyatakan (1) siswa berpemahaman konseptual tinggi membuat peta konsep rinci dan tersetruktur dilengkapi gambar, penemuan rumus, dan contoh soal, dapat menjelaskan konsep, keterkaitan antar konsep, mengedepankan aplikasi konsep, dan yakin terhadap konsepnya, (2) siswa berpemahaman konseptual sedang membuat peta konsep tersetruktur, dilengkapi gambar dan penemuan rumus, dapat menjabarkan konsep, menjelaskan konsep, keterkaitan antar konsep, belum dapat melihat keterkaitan antar soal, dan kurang yakin terhadap konsepnya (3) siswa berpemahaman konseptual rendah membuat peta konsep sederhana, dilengkapi gambar dan penemuan rumus, belum dapat menjabarkan konsep, menjelaskan konsep dan keterkaitannya, mengedepankan hafalan rumus dan tidak yakin terhadap konsepnya.
