Abstract

Background: Traumatic ulcer is one of the most common oral mucosal lesions, which are caused by physical trauma. The prevalence of traumatic ulcers in this world is 83.6%. Ulcers cause pain, difficulty in articulation, mastication and swallowing causing discomfort to the patient. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of nano chitosan mouth spray on epithelial thickness in the healing process of traumatic ulcers.Methods: This research was true experimental type using post test only control group design with the number of samples are 27 rats divided into three groups. The treatment group was given nano chitosan mouth spray, the positive control group was given aloclair plus spray and the negative control group was given aquadest. After 7 days of treatment, the ulcer tissue was observed using a light microscope, then the average thickness of the epithelium was calculated. They were then analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD tests.Results: The results showed difference in the average value of each group. The treatment group is higher than the positive control group and the negative control group with an average epithelial thickness (19.42 ± 2.11). Meanwhile, the negative control group is the lowest group among the three groups with an average epithelial thickness (5.72 ± 0.77). The results based on the One Way Anova parametric test, the value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05)Conclusion: The conclusion obtained is that there is an effect of chitosan nanomouth spray on epithelial thickness on the healing process of traumatic ulcers in male Wistar rats after 7 days of treatment

Abstract

Background: The success of fixed dentures is influenced by the cementation procedure. Resin cement is the most commonly used luting materials. In addition to resin cement, there are other types of luting materials, preheated resin composite. Preheating resin composite allow the material to have a low level of viscosity, therefore can be used as luting material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the comparison of the shear strength cementation of preheated resin composite and resin cement on indirect lithium disilicate.Method: This study is experimental laboratory with post test only control group design. The sample in this study are 12 pieces lithium disilicate with diameter 5.5 mm x 3 mm cemented divided into three groups based on types of luting materials (preheated resin composite microhybrid, preheated nanohybrid, and resin cement). After the cementation procedure, the samples were immersed in artificial saliva at 37ºC for 24 hours. The shear strength test was carried out with a universal testing machine. Data analysis with using One Way ANOVA.Result: The results of the average shear strength of each group were 11.98 MPa for preheated microhybrid, 11.41 MPa for preheated nanohybrid, and 14.22 MPa for resin cement. The results of the One Way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant differences between groups (p value 0.000).Conclusion: There was a significant difference in shear strength between preheated microhybrid, preheated nanohybrid, and resin cement. The highest shear strength was the resin cement group.

Abstract

Background: Dental and oral health problems in Indonesia are still high due to the low number of health workers, both dentists and dental nurses. Therefore, the prevention and promotion of dental and oral health services must be improved formation of dental health cadres in a community. Islamic boarding schools are places of Islamic learning where students or santri live permanently and study together with teachers or Kiai. In a pesantren learning environment, it is essential to pay attention to health, especially the condition of the teeth and mouth, so as not to interfere with the learning process. This community service aims to form cadres and carry out dental and oral health checks by dentists and dental co-operative students, Faculty of Dentistry, Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) Semarang.Method: In addition, this activity also aims to change students' behaviour thus they put more attention of the condition of their oral cavity and know the importance dental and oral care treatments according to their oral condition. With direct counselling provided by dentists, the cadres gain understanding and knowledge about the oral cavity, including the arrangement of teeth, various kinds of dental and oral problems, and how to treat them. In addition, the cadres also received training on how to brush their teeth with the right brush and toothpaste provided by the Co-assistant of dental students.Result: With the formation of 12 cadres, it is suggested that promotive, preventive, and referral activities for dental and oral health problems in the Asshodiqiyah Islamic boarding school can continue to run to reduce dental and oral health problems.Conclusion: Cadre activities for students and brushing teeth together can increase knowledge in the field of dental and oral health and the ability to clean the mouth teeth of PP students. Asshodiqiyah. This activity was also able to increase the awareness of the students to be more active in caring for and maintaining the health of their teeth and mouth.

Abstract

Masalah kesehatan gigi tertinggi di Indonesia adalah karies yaitu rusaknya jaringan keras gigi. Pencegahan karies dapat dilakukan dengan meningkatkan remineralisasi. Cangkang kerang-simping merupakan limbah industri kaya kalsium yang dapat menjadi prekursor hidroksiapatit yaitu kristal penyusun gigi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis gel hidroksiapatit dari cangkang kerang- simping dan mengetahui pengaruh gel hidroksiapatit terhadap remineralisasi email gigi. Metode penelitian merupakan eksperimental laboratoris 2 tahap. Pertama adalah sintesis hidroksiapatit dan evaluasi fisikokimia menggunakan SEM-EDX dan XRD. Hidroksiapatit kemudian dibuat menjadi sediaan gel dan diuji secara organoleptik. Tahap kedua adalah penelitian pre dan post-test control group design menggunakan 16 sampel gigi premolar satu rahang atas post ekstraksi yang terbagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok gel hidroksiapatit 20%, dan kelompok kontrol. Uji kekerasan email gigi menggunakan Vickers microhardness tester sebanyak 2 kali, yaitu sebelum dan setelah aplikasi gel. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa hidroksiapatit cangkang kerang simping berukuran nano, berbentuk granular dengan rasio molar Ca:P 3,22. Konsistensi gel hidroksiapatit homogen, sedikit berbau dan berwarna putih krem. Pada hasil uji kekerasan email terdapat perbedaan signifikan sebelum dan sesudah aplikasi (p0,05) dan terdapat signifikansi perbedaan peningkatan kekerasan antar kelompok (p0,05). Peningkatan kekerasan email kelompok gel hidroksiapatit lebih tinggi daripada kelompok kontrol. Kesimpulannya adalah gel hidroksiapatit cangkang kerang-simping berpotensi sebagai agen remineralisasi email gigi

Abstract

ABSTRACTBackground: Pregnant women require calcium as a vital vitamin. Insufficient calcium intake during pregnancy can result in enamel hypoplasia and cavities in deciduous teeth. It can boost pregnant women's calcium intake with calcium-containing pill formulations and vitamin D; however, this has negative effects such as kidney stone issues. Salmon can be used as a substitute because it has no negative side effects and contains omega 3, which can enhance calcium absorption. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of salmon (Salmo salar) consumption on calcium levels in the teeth of mice (Mus musculus). Method: This study used pregnant mice and a post-test-only control strategy. Pregnant mice were fed salmon combined with CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) and CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) alone as a control. The salmon dose administered is 2.17 mg/0.5 ml. Using atomic absorption spectrophotometry, mice dental calcium levels can be determined (AAS). Result: The findings of hypothesis testing with an unpaired t-test of 0.041 revealed a significant difference between the salmon-eating and CMC-consuming groups at p 0.05. (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose). Conclusion: Consuming salmon can significantly increase the calcium content of mouse teeth. Keywords: Dental calcium, Mice (Mus Musculus, Pregnant mice, Salmon (salmo nalar)

Abstract

Background: Cancer treatment with radiotherapy or chemotherapy can cause oral mucositis. Pegagan leaf extract is an herbal alternative with minimal side effects and doesn’t interfere with treatment procedures from chemotherapy cause contains triterpenoid acid, asiaticoside acid, madecoside acid, and saponins that stimulate collagen synthesis which affects epithelialization. This study aims to the difference in epithelial thickness between the administration of 25% pegagan leaf extract (Centella asiatica) spray gel and Gengigel® Hyaluronic acid spray to the healing process of oral mucositis in chemotherapy-induced rats.Method: The design of this study was an experimental laboratory using a post-test only control group design, consisting of 2 groups, namely a positive control group using Gengigel® Hyaluronic acid spray, a group of 25% pegagan leaf extract (Centella asiatica) gel spray. The statistical analysis of the study used the Independent T-test.Result: The results of the spray gel thickness of pegagan leaf extract (Centella asiatica) were 25% greater than Gengigel® Hyaluronic acid spray. The results of the Independent T-test were significant, with a value of p = 0.000 (P <0.05).Conclusion: It can be concluded that there was differences in the increase of epithelial thickness in the application of 25% pegagan leaf extract (Centella asiatica) gel spray with Gengigel® Hyaluronic acid spray on the healing of oral mucositis due to chemotherapy.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the dental disease in the oral cavity that often experience by society are caries. Caries is one of the hard tooth tissue disease that can touch enamel, dentin, and sementum. One of the factor that affect caries process is saliva. Urea is one of the organic composition that compose saliva. Urea in salive plays as buffer capacity and the pH saliva adjustment.Methods: This study is an analytic observational with cross sectional approach, this study are conducted in Daarul 'Ilmi Islamic boarding school with 19 subject of 12-15 years old child. The data are obtained from the examination of urea saliva level and pH saliva in child. The level of urea saliva are measured using spectrophotometer tools and the pH saliva are measured using pH meter. The Shapiro-wilkare used to deterime the data normality, continue with Leuvenetest to determinde the data homogeneity data. Data are analyzed using Pearson test to determine the relation of urea level in saliva against the pH saliva.Results: According the data analysis, the data are in normal distribution and homogeneous. The research result are obtain average of urea level in urea sample is 13,45 mg/dl, and the average of pH saliva sampelis 7,15. The result of Pearsonstatistic testare obtain p value of = 0,000, with the positive correlation level of 0,902.Conclusion: The conclusion of this study are note that there are relation between the urea level in saliva against pH salive. This are proven from the Pearson test result with significance value of 0.000 (p< 0.05).

Abstract

Background: Bioflm begins with formation of pelicle and within a minutes the colonization of bacteria attached to surface of the teeth. One of early bacteria attached was Streptococcus mutans. This study used 25% beluntas leaf extract in influencing the growth of Streptococcus mutans bioflm. The purpose of study was to investigated effect of 25% beluntas leaf extract on Streptococcus mutans bioflm.Methods: This research was experimental laboratory with post test only control design, consist of four treatment groups, 25% beluntas leaf extract and 0.12% chlorhexidine incubated 24 hours and 48 hours. Bioflm formation was measured by calculating Optical Density using a spectrophotometer. Data analysis was performed using One Way Anova test followed by Post Hoc LSD test.Result: The results showed that beluntas leaf extract could influence theformation of S.mutans bioflm but the effect in inhibiting bioflm formation is still not as good as chlorhexidine. It is known from the results of One Way Anova 25% beluntas leaf extract and 0.12% chlorhexidine incubated for 24 hours and 48 hours showed signifcant difference (p <0.05).Conclusion: The conclusion of this research is the effect of beluntas leaf extract (Pluchea indica (L.) Less) 25% to Streptococcus mutans bioflm in vitro.

Abstract

Background: Malnutrition problem in Indonesia is still a challenge in order to improve the quality generation of Indonesian in the future. Reflecting on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the prevalence of malnutrition in children in Indonesia reached 17.7 percent. One of the reasons is the increased consumption of sweet and sticky foods and drinks. The presence of children's caries can also cause psychological disturbances and pain so children have difficulty chewing food and getting inadequate nutrition. There is a need for earlier intervention through education on the need for caries management to prevent child malnutrition. This program was held to provide educational videos on caries management as an early intervention effort to prevent malnutrition in children.Method : The implementation of community service was carried out in several stages, namely: location survey, licensing, making educational videos, implementing education in the form of outreach to community cadres and preparing activity reports. Education is carried out by counselling using video media to community cadres including delivery of material, discussion (questions and answers) with resource persons and ending with conclusions and follow-up planning for implementation in the family environment.Result: The knowledge of cadre increasing because educational video can provide audio and visual illustration. Conclusion: Educational videos on caries management can be an alternative as an early intervention effort to prevent malnutrition in children.
