Abstract

Makeup is a beautifier for women to increase their confidence to appear in public or just do activities outside. Eyeliner is one of the cosmetics for makeup that is used on the eyelids to create a more defined and dramatic eye impression. This study aims to make an eyeliner preparation from kluwak fruit powder (Pangium edule Reinw) and to find out the best formula as a natural dye in liquid eyeliner. Kluwak itself has tannins that produce a brown-black color and contains antioxidants that can ward off reactive molecules. This study was conducted observationally, using an experimental method, namely by mixing kluwak fruit powder with distilled water, dimethyl sulfoxide, PVP K30, and phenoxyethanol which produced the 3 best formulas. Then, testing the physical properties of the preparation was carried out including organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests, viscosity tests, and panelists' preferences for the liquid eyeliner preparation. From the 3 formulas, the physical results are in accordance with the characteristics of liquid eyeliner, namely black, has a fairly smooth texture, is easy to apply, adheres well to the skin, has a pH of 5, a viscosity level of 259-818 mPa s, but has a deficiency in aroma. The results of this study state that kluwak fruit powder can be used as a dye in liquid eyeliner. However, it needs to be improved regarding the less homogeneous texture and aroma because it has a distinctive kluwak aroma that is disturbing, it is better to add other aromas as a neutralizer. Abstract

Learning activities play an important role in student learning outcomes, especially in vocational high schools (SMK) that require skill acquisition. Color photography makeup competency in the beauty care major requires an understanding of anatomy theory and practical skills. The PBL model was chosen because it has the potential to improve students’ comprehension, group work, and interpersonal skills. The objective of this research is to identify the implementation of PBL constructs, student knowledge acqusition outcomes, and learner feedback. This research employed a pilot experimental design approach with a single-group pre-posttest design. The research tools consisted of observation sheets, cognitive and psychomotor tests, and questionnaires. The results showed that the implementation of PBL constructs was classified as very good with an average score of 3.84. Cognitive learning outcomes significantly increased from 65 to 84 points, and were classified as optimal. Psychomotor learning outcomes were classified as very good with 21 students in the very good category and 3 students in the good category. The response rate of students was 91%, which was evaluated as very good. In conclusion, the introduction of PBL can effectively optimize learning outcomes and students’ learning enthusiasm in the color photography makeup learning process

Abstract

The method of conveying information in an interesting and easy-to-understand way is using video tutorials. The level of effectiveness of video tutorials in conveying basic skills of top style bun arrangement as teaching materials in class XI of SMK Negeri 3 Kediri, student learning achievement after using video tutorial media on top style bun material, student responses to the use of video tutorials on learning skills of top style bun material as a learning aid. This study applies a quantitative approach. To collect information, an observation sheet is used to assess the quality of video tutorial media, cognitive and psychomotor tests are applied to evaluate student learning achievement, while questionnaires are used as a means of obtaining the required information. Video tutorials that discuss top style bun arrangement material are suitable media to be used and introduced to students as a learning tool. The average achievement is very satisfactory, with material components of 80%, media 90%, and language 85%. Students from grade XI showed achievement of scores above the KKM standard that has been set at SMK Negeri 3 Kediri, which is set at 75. Their learning achievement on the use of video learning media in top style bun arrangement lessons reached an average of 97 and 100% completion. Student responses to learning media lessons in the form of video tutorials in the learning process showed quite high effectiveness, with an achievement level reaching 83.8%. Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed the way consumers obtain information and form preferences regarding makeup products. Social media, particularly TikTok, has become a strategic platform for beauty influencers to share educational content, reviews, and product recommendations. This study aims to determine whether there is an influence, and to what extent, the TikTok content of @galih.makeupartis affects the purchasing decisions of undergraduate students majoring in Beauty Education at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. This research employs a quantitative approach with an associative research type. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 55 respondents and analyzed using a simple linear regression test. The results show that the TikTok content of @galih.makeupartis has a significant influence on purchasing decisions, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-count of 6.954 > t-table of 2.006. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.477 indicates that 47.7% of the purchase decision can be explain by the TikTok content. These findings indicate that the audiovisual and narrative content of beauty influencers on TikTok plays an important role in shaping purchasing decisions, particularly among beauty education students. Abstract

The success of educational activities relies heavily on the use of innovative learning strategies. One such strategy is Problem-Based Learning (PBL), which emphasizes real-world and contextual problem-solving.This study aims to (1) evaluate the implementation of the PBL syntax, (2) analyze students’ academic performance covering intellectual (cognitive), behavioral (affective), and practical skills (psychomotor) dimensions, and (3) assess students’ responses to the application of PBL in the hand bouquet material. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design involving a single group that received a pre-test and post-test. The participants consisted of 32 eleventh-grade students from the Beauty Competency Group 1 at SMKN 6 Surabaya. Data collection instruments included observation sheets, academic tests, and questionnaires. Instrument validity was tested and confirmed to be valid. The reliability test yielded a Cronbach’s Alpha score of 0.991, indicating that the instruments were highly reliable and suitable for data collection purposes. The research data were analyzed using mean scores for the PBL syntax implementation and affective assessment, paired sample t-test for intellectual academic performance, one-sample test for practical performance, and percentage analysis for questionnaire data. The findings revealed that the PBL syntax implementation achieved an "excellent" category with a score of 4.88. Intellectual performance showed a significant improvement from a pre-test score of 57.66 to a post-test score of 82.19. The affective aspect improved from a score of 4.12 in the first session to 4.30 in the second, both falling under the "very good" category. Practical skill performance reached a score of 85.50, exceeding the minimum passing grade (KKTP) of 70. Students’ responses to the learning model were highly positive, with an average score of 96%. It can be concluded that the PBL model is effective in enhancing students’ academic performance in learning the hand bouquet material. Keywords: Pre-Experimental, Hand Bouquet, Problem-Based Learning

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini dilaksanakan untuk menjawab kebutuhan peningkatan keterampilan kewirausahaan siswa SMA Negeri 1 Karas Magetan, yang merupakan salah satu sekolah pelaksana program Double Track Dinas Pendidikan Provinsi Jawa Timur. Program Double Track dirancang untuk membekali siswa dengan keterampilan praktis, namun dalam praktiknya akses terhadap pelatihan kecantikan tradisional masih sangat terbatas. Padahal, keterampilan ini berpotensi menjadi bekal penting bagi siswa untuk menghadapi dunia kerja maupun merintis usaha mandiri. Menyadari kondisi tersebut, tim PKM Prodi S1 Pendidikan Tata Rias Universitas Negeri Surabaya menyelenggarakan pelatihan pembuatan sanggul Solo Putri. Keterampilan ini tidak hanya bernilai seni, tetapi juga memiliki peluang ekonomi yang signifikan dalam industri tata rias pengantin berbasis kearifan lokal. Pelaksanaan kegiatan menggunakan pendekatan Participatory Action Research (PAR) dengan tahapan mengenali kebutuhan (to know), mengidentifikasi masalah dan peluang (to find), merancang program (to plan), melaksanakan pelatihan (to act), serta melakukan refleksi hasil (to reflect). Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan pada 30 Juli 2025 diikuti 20 siswa kelas XI peminatan tata rias, yang menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi selama proses berlangsung. Hasil kegiatan memperlihatkan respon adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan teknis siswa dalam pembuatan sanggul Solo Putri, sekaligus memperkuat apresiasi mereka terhadap seni tradisional sebagai aset budaya. Selain itu, kegiatan ini juga berhasil menumbuhkan motivasi kewirausahaan, terutama dalam jasa tata rias pengantin berbasis budaya Jawa. Dengan demikian, program ini tidak hanya berkontribusi pada pelestarian budaya lokal, tetapi juga mendorong lahirnya generasi muda yang kreatif, mandiri, dan berdaya saing. Ke depan, keberlanjutan program dapat difokuskan pada penguatan manajemen usaha dan strategi pemasaran agar keterampilan siswa mampu memberikan nilai tambah ekonomi yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Menak Sopal Bridal Makeup is one of the traditional bridal makeup styless from Trenggalek Regency. This Bridal style remains relatively unknown to the wider public due to the lack of exploration, publication and academic literature. This study aims to describe the form and meaning of the makeup, hair styling, attire and accessories used in Menak Sopal Bridal Makeup. The Method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collected through interviews, observations and documentation, applying triangulation of sources, methods, and theories. The results show that the makeup used is form of beautiful makeup that highlights feminine elegance. The hair styling and accesories symbolize prosperity, armony, as well as prayers and blessing in married life. The attire reflects the richness of marine life, representing balance, hope, and the roles of husband and wife in household. The accsesories meanings of strength and protection. All of these elements represent harmony between nature and humans, spiritual values, and pride in the natural wealth of Trenggalek Regency

Abstract

Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup is a traditional bridal makeup style originating from Sidoarjo. Based on interviews with several makeup artists in Sidoarjo, it was found that public interest in Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup is relatively low compared to traditional bridal makeup styles from other regions. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the selection of Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup among the people of Sidoarjo. The research method used is a mixed method, combining a quantitative approach through questionnaires distributed to 30 brides or prospective brides, and a qualitative approach through interviews with 4 makeup artists from four beauty studios across three sub-districts in Sidoarjo Regency. The variables examined include cultural factors, social factors, and personal factors. Based on the data analysis, the findings show that cultural factors contribute 14% to the selection of bridal makeup, social factors contribute 13%, while personal factors contribute 14%. Most respondents fall into the moderate category in all three factors, indicating potential to increase interest through more intensive education and socialization. The study also found that personal factors have the most dominant influence in the selection of Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup, followed by cultural factors, and lastly social factors. The lack of public knowledge about Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup is identified as the main obstacle. These findings recommend more effective cultural promotion strategies to enhance public recognition and interest in Putri Jenggolo bridal makeup. Abstract

The effectiveness, efficiency, and appeal of learning are utilized as benchmarks in determining digital game-based learning media to achieve optimal improvement in learning outcomes. The effectiveness of using game media assisted by QuizWhizzer was evaluated as an effort to strengthen students' understanding of uniform layer hair cutting material, which is the primary focus of this study. The Research and Development (R&D) cyclical model of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) was applied in this research, followed by a true experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were collected through observations of the feasibility of the learning media, assessments (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective tests), and student response questionnaires. A sample of 71 students was randomly selected from two classes and divided into the experimental group (XI TKKR 2) and the control group (XI TKKR 1). The feasibility and effectiveness of the QuizWhizzer game media proved capable of improving students' learning outcomes across all domains related to the uniform layer material. The experimental class using the game media demonstrated higher posttest scores compared to the control class. The positive responses received indicated that the game media could create a more engaging and interactive learning environment. Based on these findings, QuizWhizzer game media is proposed as an effective innovative alternative learning medium to support vocational education.

Abstract

The development of digital beauty trends has influenced makeup techniques that emphasize eye dimension and a youthful appearance. This study aims to compare the results of the Douyin makeup look on monolid and double eyelid eye shapes. The research employed an experimental method using two models, with evaluations conducted by 30 observers using a Likert-scale observation sheet. The results indicate that monolid eyes obtained an average score of 3.45, while double eyelids achieved a higher average score of 3.60. The highest scores for both eye shapes were found in the aspect of overall visual harmony, whereas the lowest scores were observed in color gradation and soft-focus effects. The Independent Sample T-Test revealed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). In conclusion, double eyelid eyes produce more optimal eye makeup application results due to the presence of an eyelid crease that facilitates blending and dimensional formation. These findings may serve as a reference for makeup artists in selecting application techniques according to eye shape characteristics. Keywords: Douyin makeup look, monolid, double eyelids
