Abstract

Background: Turnover intentions among Generation Z employees are a problem in human resource management, particularly in Islamic educational institutions. Despite upholding spiritual and ethical values, these institutions often face challenges in their implementation, such as destructive leadership and a hostile work environment. This complexity is compounded by Gen Z's sensitivity to psychological stress. Objective: This study analyzes the influence of destructive leadership and a conducive work environment on turnover intention among Gen Z employees in Islamic educational institutions, with self-affirmation as a mediator. Methods: A quantitative survey was conducted with 125 Generation Z employees working in Islamic educational institutions in Makassar. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: Destructive leadership decreased self-affirmation, thus increasing turnover intention. However, a conducive environment increased self-affirmation but had no direct effect on turnover intention. Self-affirmation significantly mediated both relationships. Conclusion: Gen Z employees in Islamic educational institutions tend to have intentions to leave if they experience toxic leadership and an unsupportive work environment. However, strong self affirmation can mitigate these negative influences. These findings have implications for human resource management in Islamic educational institutions to provide a supportive work environment, especially for the younger generation who are more sensitive to psychological issues.

Abstract

This study aims to uncover the meaning of profit from the perspective of home-based cake sellers in Rappocini District, Makassar, as household-based micro-enterprises who play dual roles in the family economy. Using an interpretive phenomenological approach and The Cultural Shaping of Accounting framework, this study explores how life experiences, cultural values, and domestic conditions shape the meaning of profit beyond formal accounting concepts. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, then analyzed using NVivo 12. The results of the study revealed five main themes of profit meaning, namely: as a means of fulfilling daily food needs, financing children's education, household needs, savings to face uncertainty, and as working capital for business sustainability. These findings indicate that profit is understood as a source of welfare, security, and family stability and links the household economy and business economy. This study contributes to the development of accounting studies with a cultural and gender perspective, and provides implications for mentoring MSMEs in the social behavior of micro enterprises.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how digital public reactions play a role in shaping the social legitimacy of management decisions to terminate employees in the social media era, using the viral case study of "Anita Tumbler." This research starts from the assumption that the legitimacy of termination decisions is no longer solely determined by formal organizational procedures. Methods: this study used a qualitative approach through content analysis of comments from netizens on social media related to the case, as well as document analysis of the company's official response. Data were analyzed using NVivo 12 software to identify dominant themes, patterns of public reactions, and organizational legitimacy. Results: the results indicate that public reactions in the digital space were dominated by public anger, moral judgment, justification of punishment, and ridicule. These patterns collectively construct a normative narrative that legitimizes the termination decision as a socially acceptable action. The findings also reveal that the legitimacy of termination decisions is shaped by public opinion and emotional responses in the digital space rather than solely through legal grounds or formal procedures. Implications: this study emphasizes the importance of balancing the protection of employee freedom of expression with professional obligations in the use of social media. In the era of social media, HR is not only required to be able to respond to public pressure, but also to consider the proportionality of sanctions, the long-term impact on individuals, and justice mechanisms that protect both parties, namely the organization and the employees themselves.
