Abstract

Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) in Pelangan Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok, Indonesia, provides significant economic benefits but poses severe environmental and social challenges. This study aims to identify ASGM practices, operational scales, and distribution patterns while analyzing their impacts on social, economic, and ecological aspects, particularly mangrove ecosystems. Using Sentinel-2 L2A satellite imagery and NDVI analysis to assess mangrove health, combined with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA guidelines, the research synthesized data from 25 relevant articles published between 2009 and 2024. The findings indicate that ASGM contributes to local income but fosters unsustainable economic dependency, with mercury (Hg) contamination in rivers exceeding WHO thresholds and persistent pollution undermining mangrove functions. Socially, ASGM heightens health risks, including anemia and heavy metal bioaccumulation in local communities. Despite some improvements in mangrove health from 2017 to 2024, significant environmental degradation remains. Mitigation strategies such as biochar application and bioremediation, alongside sustainable resource management and community empowerment, are essential to reducing environmental damage while supporting local livelihoods, aligning with SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water)

Abstract

Abstract

Occupational Skin Diseases (OSDs) represent a significant global health issue. This study aims to analyze OSD research trends from 2014 to 2023 through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. The search was carried out in the Scopus database using keywords: "occupational skin disease" OR "work-related skin disease" OR "occupational dermatosis". A total of 491 documents were analyzed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny. The results show an increase in publications with a peak in 2021, dominated by developed countries such as Germany and the United States, but the contribution of developing countries is starting to be seen. The focus of research shifted from classic contact dermatitis to the issue of COVID-19 and the use of personal protective equipment. The University of Osnabrück and the journal Contact Dermatitis are the main contributors. The analysis uncovered gaps in longitudinal research, insufficient research on the informal sector, and limited interventions in developing countries. Future research is suggested to focus on innovative prevention strategies, climate change impacts, and the utilization of new technologies, with an emphasis on international collaboration. This study highlights the importance of OSD research's adaptation to new challenges in the workplace and the need for a more inclusive global approach.

Abstract

Dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin condition that can significantly impact patients' quality of life. Studies on the prevalence and risk factors of dermatitis in Indonesia remain limited. To analyze the prevalence, demographic distribution, and the relationship between occupation and types of dermatitis in a dermatology clinic from 2020 to 2024. This retrospective study utilized medical record data of dermatitis patients who visited a dermatology clinic from 2020 to 2024. The variables examined included age, gender, occupation (2020–2023), case type (new/existing), and dermatitis diagnosis. Statistical analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to identify the relationship between occupation and dermatitis diagnosis. There was a significant decrease in dermatitis prevalence from 9.75% during the 2020–2023 period to 4.63% in 2024. The 25–44 year age group had the highest number of cases, with a predominance of female patients. The chi-square test showed a significant association between occupation and dermatitis diagnosis (χ² = 70.259; p < 0.05). Dermatitis remains a significant health issue with a distinct demographic distribution. Improvements in data collection and diagnosis classification are necessary for a better understanding and the development of effective prevention strategies. These findings have important implications for clinical practice and health policy in Indonesia, particularly in terms of workplace prevention and management of dermatitis.

Abstract

Aik Bukak Village, North Batukliang District, Central Lombok is an agricultural area with the majority of its people making a living as farmers, apart from managing their yards by growing vegetables and fruit. Several types of fruit are found in quite large quantities and are available almost all year round, whether they come from the garden or not, for example bananas, watermelon and durian. At certain times fruit is available in large quantities, and accompanied by large amounts of waste which is often not utilized, other than as raw material for making organic fertilizer. Basically, this type of waste can be processed into food or snacks, which apart from being useful as an alternative food ingredient, as an effort to diversify food, is also an alternative to increase household income. The aim of this activity is to provide outreach and training in making food products based on local fruit waste in the Aik Bukak Village community. The method used is to conduct lectures, discussions and demonstrations of fruit waste processing by involving the community. From the results of the activity, it can be concluded that the community has additional knowledge regarding the use of fruit waste as food, in the form of banana peel chips, candied watermelon peels, and jackfruit seed cakes. Apart from reducing the potential for environmental pollution, people also have alternative businesses to increase household income.
