Abstract

Listening Comprehension is the language skills should be developed through listening to children as they grow. Listening Comprehension has been claimed as the most challenging skill to teach since many research found that EFL learners are worried to have a listening class. This research aimed to know whether there is a significant effect of Advance Organizers (AOs) and Think-Pair-Share (TPS) on EFL learners’ listening comprehension. This study is to determine which one is more dominant between Advance Organizers (AOs) and Think-Pair-Share (TPS) to increase EFL learners’ listening comprehension in the Eleventh grade of a senior high school on Tangerang Regency. This research is a quantitative method, with 36 learners as the sample which is taken non-random by using quasi-experimental research time-series design. The data were collected by using the test including pretest and posttest. The results revealed that there was a significant effect used by Advance Organizers and Think-Pair-Share. Therefore, Advance Organizers was more dominant than Think-Pair-Share to increase EFL learners’ listening comprehension.

Abstract

Fostering students' interest in continuing their education to higher education is critical to improving the quality of human resources. School involvement and the parent role are significant in fostering students' concern to continue their education to college. Therefore, this study examines the socioeconomic influence of parents, social environment, and self-actualization on students' interest in continuing studies. The researchers have collected data using incidental sampling techniques on 404 high school students. Instruments distributed to respondents have been tested for validity and reliability. Multiple regression was used for data analysis. The study results find that parents' socioeconomic, social environment and self-actualization significantly affect students' interest in continuing their studies. So, to increase students' attractiveness, the school as a social environment and parents who work together have a vital role in facilitating students by holding outreach activities and encouraging them to continue their education in tertiary institutions. This study provides academic insight into pedagogical research and educational development in adolescents. These findings contribute to future researchers and policymakers focused on increasing interest in continuing education in higher education.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims at finding out the effect of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) strategy at eleventh grade of SMA Al-Ijtihad Kota Tangerang. This research was quantitative with the quasi-experimental to chose the sample, and got 57 students to two classes : one experimental and one control. The experimental class (XI IPS 2) which was taught by Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) strategy, whereas the control class (XI IPS 1) which was taught by Conventional Instruction (CI). The researcher used the written test to collect the data, and counting the data with the chi square formula to test normality data, fisher formula to test homogeneity data. The result of this research showed the students' score of reading comprehension after taught by Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is good, because the mean value of post-test which was taught by is Content and Language Integrated Learning  (CLIL) higher than students which was taught by Conventional Instruction (CI). So, the gained results of the research indicated that Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) strategy is an  effective strategy on  improving students' reading comprehension, however there are some constraints on the language used by the researchers in this strategy, namely the use of English to convey the material.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The researcher is interested in finding out if students’ vocabulary mastery correlates with their writing skills. The 44 students were selected for this study using a purposive sampling technique, they were selected from the population of all the 10th grade students at State 3 Senior High School Tangerang District. A vocabulary test and a writing test were used to collect the data from the participants in this study. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to examine the relationship between the two variables. The result shows that the coefficient between variable X and variable Y is 0.682. The criteria of correlation between two variables among 0.600 – 0.800 shows a high or strong correlation. The significant level at 5% is r-table = 0.297, it means rxy > r-table (0.682 > 0.297). The r-table significant level at 1 % is 0.384, it means that the rxy > r-table (0.682 > 0.384). The result of the analyses shows that there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and students’ writing skill of State 3 Senior High School Tangerang District. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. In other words, students who score high on vocabulary tests tend to have good writing skills too. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the structured dyadic technique has a substantial impact on the students' reading comprehension in the tenth grade at SMAN 14 Kab. Tangerang This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental methodology. This indicates that the author employed two classes, one of which served as the experimental class and the other as the control class. All tenth grade students as well as 72 additional pupils make up the population of this study because purposive sampling was employed to select the sample. The t-test formula was used to test the hypothesis data. As a consequence of the hypothesis test, it was determined that the Sig. is 1.667>0.05, which indicates that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Based on the findings, it can be said that the Structured Dyadic Method (SDM) has a significant impact on the students' reading comprehension in the tenth grade of SMAN 14 Kab. Tangerang.

Abstract

One of the problems that causes students to have difficulty in improving their English skills is the lack of vocabulary mastery. This research aims to determine whether the use of flash card teaching media can improve students' vocabulary mastery. This research uses a classroom action research design with a quantitative method conducted on students in the fourth grade at SDN Pondok Jagung Timur in Tangerang Selatan. The researcher presented the result and the analysis of data collected that consisted of pre-test, cycle 1, and post-test. Each cycle of the research consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection activities. In the research, there are some steps before cycle 1, there are observation and pre-test. The last step after cycle 1 is the post-test. The result of the research showed that Flash cards could improve the students’ mastery of vocabulary. It can be identified from the mean score of the test which increased from 69,8 in the pre-test to 91,0 in the post-test. The use of flashcards may attract the student’s attention to the lesson well. It also might improve the participation of students in learning. They were not shy anymore and were motivated to attend the instructional process

Abstract

Students who study foreign languages have weaknesses in the vocabulary they learn. The aim of this research is to determine the process of increasing students' vocabulary mastery through the word square game in class II elementary school students in the city of Tangerang for the 2023/2024 school year. The subjects of this research were second grade elementary school students for the 2023/2024 academic year. This class consists of 11 students. This research uses quantitative methods. The results of the analysis in collecting data, researchers use tests. The tests were given in the form of pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2. Researchers analyzed the average score of each test to determine the increase in students' vocabulary mastery after carrying out these actions. students' mastery of skills increases optimally. This can be seen from the pre-test score of 80, post-test 1 90, and post-test 2 92.27. After implementing the actions, researchers were able to solve problems in increasing mastery of understanding. Students are able to understand the meaning of words based on the context. By using the word square game in vocabulary learning, students can easily understand and memorize new vocabulary. In the vocabulary learning process, when the teacher uses the word square game, students look very enthusiastic and enjoy the learning process.

Abstract

The Covid-19 Pandemic made it almost impossible for the students learn face-to-face. The demand of technology for learning online is needed in such situation. The writers chose Hello English App to find out the enhancement of the app on students’ English vocabulary development and the perceptions at the seven-grade level of private junior high school in Indonesia in academic year 2020/2021. This quantitative study with quasi-experimental design involving seventh-grade students. The researcher provided a multiple-choice test consisting of 30 students in experimental and control class respectively through pre-test, treatment and post-test. The researcher employed statistical calculation of the t-test formula with 5% significance level using SPSS 22 based on the score collected from the students’ pre-test and post-test results. It was found out that, the mean score of a post-test in the experimental class was significantly higher than the conventional class. The result of t-test indicated that Hello English has a significance impact on the development of students’ English words. Meanwhile, the questionnaire results showed that most students agreed (>80%) that the Hello English App can assist them in English learning, particularly English words They felt satisfied and enjoyed the learning process when they employed the Hello English App to acquire English words as well. As a conclusion, the app is applicable in mastering students’ English words. It is recommended for learners and teachers as an alternative way during the Pandemic. The result from this research is essential. However, limited time during treatment and participants could not make the findings generalized.

Abstract

Cara Berpikir dan Kompetensi TIK merupakan bagian dari keterampilan abad 21 yang menjadi kebutuhan bagi guru dan siswa saat ini. Perkembangan era informasi yang sangat pesat melalui kemajuan teknologi mendorong masyarakat untuk memiliki kemampuan dalam mengakses, menyerap, menginterpretasikan dan mengevaluasi informasi dengan baik. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk membekali para guru dengan keterampilan abad 21 yaitu Cara Berpikir dan Kompetensi TIK serta bagaimana mengintegrasikan keduanya dalam perangkat pembelajaran seperti Rencana Proses Pembelajaran (RPS) dan kegiatan pembelajaran di kelas. Metode yang digunakan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan tersebut adalah sosialisasi dan pelatihan guru dengan peserta sebanyak 21 orang guru. Mitra kegiatan pengabdian ini yaitu Yayasan Pendidikan Daarul Hikmah Al-Madani Kota Tangerang yang mencakup dua sekolah yakni MI Darul Hikmah dan SMP Garuda. Hasil kegiatan menggambarkan bahwa para guru setuju cara berpikir dan Kompetensi TIK penting bagi siswa di masa sekarang. Selain itu, untuk menghadapi tantangan abad 21 saat ini, mengharuskan guru untuk meningkatkan professionalisme guru abad 21. Kegiatan pengabdian ini memfasilitasi guru mendapatkan pelatihan terkait bagaimana merumuskan dan mengintegrasikan indicator cara berfikir dan kompetensi TIK dalam perangkat pembelajaran. Dengan demikian diharapkan guru dapat merumuskan indikator cara berpikir dan Kompetensi TIK secara mandiri di kemudian hari dan mengetahui bagaimana mengintegrasikan dalam perangkat pembelajaran yang dapat membantu mereka untuk mendorong siswa dalam tantangan saat ini di abad ke-21.Thinking skills and ICT-Competences as the skills in 21st century become a necessity for teachers and students nowadays because the information age is currently developing rapidly through the advancement of technology. Today's society must have the ability to access, absorb, interpret, and evaluate information properly. This community service is conducted to equip the teachers with 21st-century skills; Thinking skills and ICT-Competences and how to integrate both of them in learning tools such as Rencana Proses Pembelajaran (RPS) and learning activities in the classroom. The method used in conducting the activity is a socialization and teachers’ training with 21 teachers participating. The partner of this PKM activity is Daarul Hikmah Al-Madani Education Foundation which includes the teachers from Garuda Junior High School and MI Darul Hikmah in Tangerang Municipality. The result of the activity illustrated that teachers agree that thinking skills and ICT Competence is important for students in the present and this community service facilitate the teachers to improve their professionalism to face 21st century challenges in education. In improving the professionalism of 21st-century teachers, several ways can be done, one of them is participating this socialization and training about formulating and incorporating thinking skills and ICT-Competences in teaching and learning. Teachers are expected that in comprehending how to formulate indicators of thinking skills and ICT Competence and how to integrate in learning tools can help them to encourage the student in the current challenges in 21st century.
