Abstract

Introduction: The nutritional status of pregnant women is a critical indicator of maternal and fetal health. Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) during pregnancy increases the risk of obstetric complications, low birth weight, stunting, and contributes indirectly to maternal mortality. Indonesia continues to report one of the highest maternal mortality ratios in Southeast Asia. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with the nutritional status of pregnant women in Banjarmasin City. Methods: This analytical cross-sectional study involved 100 pregnant women selected using accidental sampling. Nutritional status was assessed based on mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC), with MUAC <23.5 cm indicating CED. Independent variables included maternal knowledge, parity, maternal age, and toothbrushing habits. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. Effect sizes were reported as prevalence ratios (PR) with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The prevalence of CED among pregnant women was 52%. The majority of respondents had low levels of knowledge (59%), risk parity (88%), risk maternal age (63%), and bad toothbrushing habits (58%). Bivariate analysis showed significant associations between maternal knowledge (PR=2.08; p=0.001), maternal age (PR=1.59; p=0.012), and toothbrushing habits (PR=1.95; p=0.000) with nutritional status. Parity was not significantly associated with nutritional status (p=0.076). Conclusion: Maternal knowledge, age, and toothbrushing habits were significantly associated with the nutritional status of pregnant women in Banjarmasin City. Strengthening nutrition education and healthy lifestyle behaviors through Posyandu services and antenatal education programs is essential to prevent CED and improve maternal and fetal health outcomes.

Abstract

ntroduction: Dentures have many functions, of course, all of which are to improve health, but there are many factors that cause people to tend not to know the function of dentures. In Banjar Regency, there has not been a maximum in the equal distribution of dentists and dental nurses, which has the largest working area in Banjar Regency, so that people are more directed to dentists who specialize in dentures. The purpose of this study is to find out the public's perception of the function of dentures. Methods: This study is a quantitative analytical research with a cross-sectional approach using structured questionnaire instruments. The determination of the number of samples here is the community in the work area of the Aranio Health Center, Banjar Regency, using the Non-Probability Sampling technique, namely Quota Sampling, totaling 100 respondents. The instruments used in this study were in the form of questionnaires/interviews containing a list of statements about respondents' perceptions of denture function, perception of size (placement), and color of dentures. The data is processed and analyzed with Fisher Exact Test tests to test the research hypothesis. Results: The results of the study show that the level of public knowledge about the function of dentures is still relatively low, with the dominant respondents (96%) in the category of not knowing, where this condition shows a gap between public perception and a more comprehensive understanding of the benefits of dentures. In terms of the size (placement) of dentures, the largest proportion of respondents were in the poor category (45%). In the aspect of denture color, the distribution of respondents was relatively balanced between the interested (45%) and uninterested (55%) categories. The results of bivariate analysis came from the variable size (placement) of dentures (p-value 0.625; OR = 1.743) and color of dentures variables (p value 1.000; OR=1.233) with the function variable of dentures, where the two variables have no meaningful relationship. Considering the limitations of statistical power, the imbalance of the data distribution and the gap of the confidence interval make the accuracy of the estimates limited. These findings indicate that low public understanding is more likely to be related to limited access to dental health information and education than to the characteristics of dentures used. Conclusion: The need to increase access to information and education on dental health so that suggestions for the provision of information about dentures as a learning medium, both from print and electronic media dedicated to the immediate families of denture users, to reduce the reluctance to seek information. Health workers maximize their knowledge about the function of dentures in carrying out health promotion.

Abstract

Obesity is a growing global nutrition problem, including in productive age groups such as college students. Female students, especially in the Faculty of Public Health (FKM), have a higher susceptibility to obesity due to lifestyle, hormonal and dietary factors. This study aims to analyze factors related to the incidence of obesity in FKM students of the Islamic University of Kalimantan MAB Banjarmasin. This study uses an analytical survey method with a cross sectional design. The study population was 1,370 FKM students, with a sample of 94 respondents determined using the Slovin formula (90% confidence level) and accidental sampling techniques. The variables studied included knowledge, frequency of Fast Food  consumption, and genetik factors, with data collection through questionnaires and Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements. Data analysis was carried out using the Chi Square test. The results showed the prevalence of obesity at 48.9%. Most of the respondents had sufficient knowledge (43.6%), often consumed Fast Food  (58.5%), and had a genetik history of obesity (55.3%). Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.032), frequency of Fast Food  consumption (p=0.027), and genetiks (p=0.000) and the incidence of obesity in female students. The discussion of this study emphasizes that obesity in female students is not only influenced by lifestyle such as Fast Food  consumption, but also nutritional knowledge factors and genetik predisposition. College students with low knowledge are more prone to choosing high-calorie foods, while frequent consumption of Fast Food  contributes to excess energy. Genetik factors further strengthen the risk of obesity if it is not balanced with a healthy lifestyle. It is recommended that female students limit Fast Food  consumption and increase nutritional knowledge through health counseling. Further research is expected to add other variables, such as physical activity and stress, to enrich the analysis of obesity risk factors
