Abstract

Hypertension, often referred to as a "silent killer," is a prevalent non-communicable disease that significantly contributes to cardiovascular events and other serious health complications. Despite various pharmacological treatments, many hypertensive patients seek non-pharmacological alternatives to manage their condition. This study investigates the effect of combined foot bath and foot massage therapy on blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed, with 40 participants selected through purposive sampling. These participants were assigned to either the intervention group, which received the combined therapy for three consecutive days, or the control group, which did not receive the intervention. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using a digital sphygmomanometer. The data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests. The results showed a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group, with p-values of 0.000 and 0.025, respectively. In contrast, no significant change was observed in the control group (p > 0.05). The findings suggest that the combination of foot bath and foot massage therapy is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This non-pharmacological approach offers a promising complementary treatment for hypertension management, particularly for patients who are seeking alternatives to medication. Further research with a larger sample size and longer intervention period is recommended to confirm these results and explore the long-term effects of this therapy.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a prevalent condition among the elderly, often leading to poor sleep quality. Objective: This case study aimed to describe the effect of Slow Stroke Back Massage (SSBM) combined with family nursing care in improving sleep quality among elderly hypertensive patients. Method: This descriptive case study involved two elderly hypertensive patients receiving family nursing care at Puskesmas Tambak Wedi, Surabaya. The intervention consisted of SSBM performed for 30 minutes every two days for a week. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results: Both patients showed improved sleep quality, as indicated by decreased PSQI scores (from 14 to 5 and from 16 to 6) and better blood pressure control. These findings describe individual improvements observed in two cases. Recommendation: Slow Stroke Back Massage can be considered a supportive nursing intervention within family care. However, as this study involved only two participants, the findings are not generalizable and should be interpreted as case-based observations

Abstract

The aging process is associated with progressive degenerative changes that increase the risk of falls among older adults. Declining physiological functions, including reduced muscle strength, impaired coordination, postural instability, and decreased balance, contribute significantly to fall incidents, which may lead to physical injury, reduced independence, and decreased quality of life. Therefore, effective interventions are needed to minimize fall risk and improve functional mobility in the elderly population. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Otago Exercise Program on fall risk among older adults in Gelang Village, Sidoarjo Regency. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 30 older adults were recruited through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of the Otago Exercise Program administered over 12 sessions within four weeks. Fall risk was assessed using the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to evaluate differences in fall risk scores between pretest and posttest measurements. The findings demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in fall risk following the intervention. The Wilcoxon test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the Otago Exercise Program effectively improved balance and mobility among the participants. Post-intervention observations showed that participants experienced better functional movement and a lower risk of falling compared to their baseline condition. In conclusion, the Otago Exercise Program has a significant positive effect on reducing fall risk among older adults in Gelang Village, Sidoarjo Regency. These findings suggest that the program can be considered an effective non-pharmacological intervention to enhance balance and prevent falls in the elderly population. Future studies are recommended to include additional variables, such as muscle strength, dynamic balance, and quality of life, to provide more comprehensive findings.

Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare has transformed clinical decision-making processes, including patient assessment and diagnostic support. In nursing practice, accurate and timely assessment is critical to patient safety and quality of care, yet increasing workload and clinical complexity often challenge nurses’ diagnostic performance. This study aims to examine the impact of AI-assisted diagnostic tools on nursing assessment accuracy, efficiency, and overall patient care outcomes. The research employs a mixed-methods design combining quantitative analysis of assessment performance indicators with qualitative exploration of nurses’ experiences in clinical settings where AI diagnostics are implemented. Data were collected from registered nurses across selected hospital units using standardized assessment records, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. The results indicate that AI-assisted diagnostics significantly improve assessment accuracy, reduce time to clinical decision-making, enhance early detection of patient deterioration, and increase nurses’ confidence in clinical judgment. Qualitative findings reveal that nurses perceive AI tools as supportive systems that augment, rather than replace, professional expertise when appropriately integrated into workflows. The study concludes that AI-assisted diagnostics represent a valuable advancement in nursing practice by strengthening patient assessment and promoting safer, more consistent care.
