Abstract

The discourses about religion will never come to end. Religion will always be a topic of public sphere and cannot be separated from subjective views. Religion carries the important aspect from which it functions as a vehicle for human being to act of how runs our life in this world. This condition tends to convey religion into an exclusive side. On the one hand, for its adherents, religion (faith) is a basic principle that funnels them to achieve the mean of their life. On the other hand, religion also guide its adherents how to interact with their surroundings politically, economically, socially and religiously. It means that religion is operational and functional doctrine. In social life, religion is used to have such condition where all the structure is well constructed. Basically, the “big religions” (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are from the same derivation: Semitic. Tauhid is one example of that derivation, besides universal values which inherently arise from those religions. From this point of view, we can say that religion actually has already brought such linear characters among one and another. In this regard, this article attempts to portray the convergences of those religions by using the method of interpretative analysis

Abstract

One of the special characteristic of religion is transcendent, holy, absolute and permanent due to the holy revelation of the divinity and culture is human creation in forms of relativity due to its dynamic characteristic. Human culture will take a sort of changing in accordance with the time and space they lived in. Human will have understanding in accordance with their capability and experience in responding and practicing dogma according to their belief. In this point, they try to return to their original form of being oneness or ummah wâh}idah either in social and theological fields. The concept of ummah wâh}idah is well known with the tawhîd movement focused on theological and social realm. This paper attempts to see the religious movement of tawhîd Muh}ammad in anthropological perspective. It aims to respond the exclusive religious understanding of some groups in Indonesia in threatening plurality and social integration. The paper suggests that the movement of tawhîd Muh}ammad is a theological and social movement. Theological movement maintains that all Semitic religions should be tied up with the idea of millah Ibrâhîm, not Islamic religion (aqîdah Islâmîyah) as many salafism argue in the recent days. Besides, the social movement of tawhîd Muh}ammad means that tawhîd could unite many groups and ethnics of Arab tribes to build a new face of civilization in more civilized and dynamic.

Abstract

Religious experience of multicultural society in Indonesia has frequently been characterized by conflict and violence in various regions. As a state having the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Indonesia has several challenges and problems of plurality, ethnicity, religion, and culture. However, each culture has it own local wisdom to overcome these challenges and problems. This article finds that the presence of religious life (Hindu-Muslim) in Denpasar Bali does not look like other regions in Indonesia, which is always covered by conflict and violence in the name of religion. Multicultural society in Denpasar Bali indicates ideal collaboration between Muslims and Hindus to build religious activities. It is an integral part of Balinese life and the Balinese friendly character to sprout back to Bali Glow (Bali Aga). It sure takes a long time to proceed through the dialectical theology, ideology, and socio-cultural processes. Together with social institutions, the local government had tried to maintain and protect the essence of Hindu Balinese culture, by preserving the tradition of Menyama Braya for the realization of harmonious religiosity.

Abstract

In the post-reformation era, a new situation of religious life has challenged the Indonesian people at large. Several conflicts arose in many areas to dispute socio-religious harmony. Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, is not an exception. In this area, the conflict occurs along with the presence of new religious groups within society. Through a phenomenological approach, this research deals with some religious groups, such as Lembaga Dakwah Islam Indonesia (LDII), Gafatar, Ahmadiyah, Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI), and Khilafatul Muslimin in Kupang. These groups have grown significantly under social and state control which keep an eye on them, especially for every political goal concealed behind the movement. They are perceived as a threat to the existence of the government and the state.

Abstract

This article examines the importance of interfaith dialogue as a form of implementing religious moderation in the living space of modern society which is marked by the existence of social media. Dialogue between religions in order to build harmony that leads to peace and brotherhood is a must. Therefore, to achieve this the basic principle of maintaining ukhuwwah (brotherhood) is the key. Interfaith dialogue is not only important to be carried out face to face, but advances in technology have the opportunity to more easily interact via virtual with other religions to sow harmony. This article was written using a qualitative approach and using library research steps by placing books and journals as primary data, as well as writing from websites as supporting data. This article finds the conclusion that interfaith dialogue in multi-religious Indonesia is something that needs to be built in various spaces, including social media. The large diversity of religions has the potential to cause friction/conflict, but if the values of moderation are implemented properly by consistently building dialogue for the progress of the nation and harmony will avoid destruction. Other efforts that can be applied in the modern era are building moderate narratives on social media, building creative content, collaborating and continuing. Then later it will lead to harmony, equality, balance, peace, and away from tension.

Abstract

This article examines the role of two Sufi orders, the Naqshbandiya order and the Qadiriyya wa al-Naqshbandiya order, in the social and cultural transformation of Malay and Javanese Muslims in contemporary Sumatra, specifically in the Malay Riau region. Socio-political approach is employed in order to analyze the internal and external dynamics of the actors involved in the object of study. The argument presented in this article states that, the Naqshbandi order or ‘Malay Riau Muslim tarekat’ has played a vital role in the social and cultural transformation of Malay Muslims by promoting a peaceful and moderate interpretation of Islam. However, the more legalistic and rigid interpretation of Islam from Saudi Arabia has promoted the Naqshbandi order to adopt a more Shari‘a-oriented approach which has gradually eroded the spiritual essence of the order’s culture and given way to more radical Islamic beliefs in the Malay Riau region. In response, the Qadiriya wa al-Naqshbandiya order continues to represent the authentic Javanese Muslim traditions and beliefs, propagating the original heritage of Malay Islamic tradition and culture. This article found out that the ethnicity embedded in the followers of tarekat may influence the orientation of a particular sufi order.

Abstract

Technological and digital developments have implications for integrating technology into educational practice. As a result, teachers have to deal with digital transformation. This research aims to compare the digital transformation readiness of science teachers in urban and rural areas. This research compares to the previously determined structural model of digital transformation readiness. This research used a survey method to test several research hypotheses. The respondents of this research were 206 science teachers in Indonesia, selected using stratified random sampling to ensure a balanced representation of various sub-groups such as gender, geographic location, island, age, type and status of institution, and teaching experience. This research data was analyzed using AMOS 26 to analyze CBSEM. The research results show three main points in digital transformation: the self-efficacy of rural teachers is affected by digital literacy, the information empowerment of rural teachers is affected by information literacy and digital literacy, and the information use of rural teachers is affected by information culture. Urban teachers at these three points are more dependent and require recommendations for development and optimization. The conclusion of this research leads to a recommendation that, in general, teachers in rural areas still need improvements, while teachers in urban areas are already moving towards developing and sustaining their skills.
