Abstract

This article proposes an integrative epistemology model based on tawḥīd (Tawḥīdī Epistemology) that synthesizes three main frameworks: Burhān al-Ṣiddīqīn (Ibn Sina's ontological argument about Wājib al-Wujūd); the Scientific Method (logico-hypothetico-verification), and the Revelation Guides Science paradigm from UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Through philosophical analysis and multidisciplinary case studies, this research demonstrates that this integration not only overcomes the science-religion dichotomy but also offers a structured methodology for dual validation (empirical and normative). This article enriches the discourse of contemporary Islamic philosophy by actualizing Ibn Sina's legacy in the context of modern science, while also addressing postmodern critiques of the objectivity of science.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe the spiritual meaning in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender using James Fowler's theory of spiritual development. In this series, the elements of fire, water, air, and earth are used to illustrate the spiritual journeys of its characters. Fire, as a symbol of love, strength, and transformation, is evident in Zuko's journey, reaching the Reflective-Individualistic stage where he chooses the path of goodness, and in Aang's decision not to kill Ozai, reflecting the Conjunctive Faith stage that transcends rational thought. Water, as a symbol of life and emotion, is represented by Aang, who initially flees from his responsibilities, residing in the Conventional-Synthetic stage before eventually accepting his destiny as the Avatar. Air, symbolizing freedom and intelligence, demonstrates Aang's journey in understanding opposing elements literally at the Mythic-Literal stage. Earth, symbolizing stability and resilience, is reflected in the struggles of Aang and his friends, who reach the Universalizing stage, seeing all humanity as one and committing to the common good. This research employs a qualitative method with descriptive analysis, collecting data through literature studies that include the analysis of written texts, episodes of the animated series, and related literature. The results of this study show how the narrative and symbolism in Avatar: The Last Airbender can teach profound spiritual values, offering new insights into the study of popular culture and spirituality. Through popular media, this research aims to be an effective tool in conveying and teaching spiritual values, helping individuals find inspiration and guidance in their spiritual journeys.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the mechanisms of moral disengagement and moral flexibility in the political behavior of religious actors in post-reform Indonesia. Moral disengagement is defined as a socio-cognitive process that enables individuals to commit unethical actions without experiencing internal moral conflict, while moral flexibility refers to the contextual and situational application of moral values. Employing a qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis approach, this research analyzes political texts, speeches, ideological documents, and religious narratives that reflect power practices. The research scope includes religion-based political actors and Indonesia’s democratic public sphere. The findings indicate that moral disengagement is institutionalized through euphemistic language, moral justification, and diffusion of responsibility, whereas moral flexibility operates as an adaptive mechanism that alleviates tension between normative values and political interests. The main challenges involve the lack of empirical psychological data and the complexity of discourse interpretation. This study recommends strengthening critical ethical literacy and promoting political leadership models grounded in moral accountability. This research provides a conceptual integration of moral disengagement and moral flexibility within the context of religious politics in Indonesia, contributing to the expansion of moral psychology into the sociology of power.
