Abstract

The growth and development of elementary school-aged children require adequate nutrition. A preliminary study conducted on 10 students of Latukan Elementary School revealed that 20% of them were overweight, 60% had good nutritional status, and 20% were underweight. However, this preliminary study failed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge, snack consumption behavior, and nutritional status of students at Latukan Public Elementary School in Lamongan Regency. To address this gap, a descriptive study was conducted to determine the knowledge, consumption behavior of school snacks, and nutritional status of elementary school students in Latukan, Lamongan Regency. The study population comprised 66 students, with a sample size of 40 students selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and food frequency questionnaires. The findings revealed that 55% of the students had good knowledge, 55% exhibited moderate behavior, 57.5% consumed school snacks frequently, and 62.5% had good nutritional status. Moreover, 22.5% of the students were categorized as having more nutritional needs. This research aims to raise awareness among the community regarding the importance of nutritional knowledge and healthy snack consumption habits among school-aged children.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks fourth globally in internet users, with over 100 million smartphone users recorded in 2018, raising concerns about the impact of widespread gadget use on adolescents' lifestyle and nutritional health. This study aims to analyze the association between gadget use, energy and protein intake, and nutritional status among senior high school students in Porong. A descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at SMAN 1 Porong from September 2023 to February 2024, involving 60 tenth-grade students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated gadget use questionnaire, anthropometric measurements (BMI), and a 2x24-hour dietary recall. Data were analyzed using SPSS, applying univariate and Spearman correlation tests. The results showed a significant correlation between gadget use duration and nutritional status (p = 0.002), while no significant relationships were found between energy intake (p = 0.439) or protein intake (p = 0.859) and nutritional status. Future research is recommended to involve larger sample sizes, adopt longitudinal designs, and include additional variables such as physical activity, sleep quality, and mental health to better understand the determinants of adolescent nutritional status.

Methods: Qualitative research method with FGD (Focus Group Discussion) in 2 urban village locations in the city of Surabaya, followed by In-depth Interviews on several key informants. The descriptive analysis was divided into three stages, namely reduction, data presentation, and thematic conclusion drawing. Results: Based on the results of the FGD, 3 desired module topics were obtained, namely (1) early detection of stunting independently at the family level (2) the dangers of stunting for the growth and development of children's intelligence and (3) good eating behavior to prevent stunting. The method chosen is an interactive emo demo method with games while learning. Study showed that the emo demo approach was better at the family level considering that many mothers with stunting children often did not come to the posyandu. Conclusion:  The early detection, the cognitive dangers and the diet in preventing stunting were three themes chosen by community with emo demo method to deliver in the family level. The strength of this approach is to invite mothers to learn through playing and raising awareness in preventing stunting.
