Abstract

Background: Adolescent fertility has a negative impact on their generation and the generations they are born with. This incident was motivated by multi factors, but in South Sulawesi Province it has not been studied extensively. This research aims to study the factors that influence adolescent fertility in South Sulawesi Province. Method: Population-based research that used secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) with a cross sectional study approach. The 2017 IDHS sample is the result of a multi-stage stratified design. In this study, we filtered adolescents aged 15-19 years who lived in South Sulawesi Province resulting in 336 people. Used multivariate logistic regression with the aim of controlling for potential cofounder variables Results: 8.4% proportion of adolescent fertility. Aged 18-19 years the largest determinant of adolescent fertility (aOR=8.6; 95%CI 2.82 - 26.49), respondents never used the internet with aOR: 3.8 (95% CI 0.00 – 0.01), low education level with aOR: 6.8 (95% CI 0.79 – 59.39), being no longer in school at the time of the survey with aOR: 3.5 (95%CI 0.42 – 30.07) of experiencing teenage fertility. Fertility variables based on education level and schooling status did not show statistically significant differences, but were retained in multivariate analysis for substantial consideration. Conclusion: Aged 18-19 years, low education level, not currently in school at the time of the survey, and respondents never used the internet were determinants of adolescent fertility in South Sulawesi Province.

Abstract

Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) remain a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas where access to health information is limited. Despite various interventions, there is a lack of sustained and accessible educational strategies tailored to rural communities. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of door-to-door education using poster-based media in increasing housewives’ knowledge about iodized salt consumption in Tokka Hamlet, Rumbia District, Jeneponto Regency. A pre-test and post-test study design was implemented, with three assessment points: before the intervention, immediately after, and six months post-intervention. A total of 30 participants received the educational intervention accompanied by visual poster materials. Knowledge scores were analyzed using the Friedman test to determine significant changes over time. Results revealed an initial increase in median knowledge scores from 47.00 (pre-test) to 86.00 (post-test I), followed by a decline to 57.00 at post-test II. The Friedman test showed a significant difference across time points (p = 0.000), indicating that the educational intervention had a short-term impact. However, the decline in scores suggests limited long-term retention, likely due to the absence of follow-up measures and restricted access to continuous information. These findings highlight the importance of sustained educational reinforcement and accessible communication channels for health interventions in rural populations.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with lifestyle risk factors contributing significantly to its occurrence. This study aimed to determine the association between potential lifestyle risk factors and the incidence of heart disease among employees and farmers in Gowa District in 2025. A quantitative approach with an observational analytic design was applied. The study involved 160 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the chi-square test. The results showed that, among employees, there were significant associations between physical activity (p=0.004), smoking behavior (p=0.021), and sleep quality (p=0.040) with heart disease. Meanwhile, among farmers, physical activity (p=0.050) and smoking behavior (p=0.042) were significantly associated, whereas knowledge level, sleep quality, and dietary patterns were not. In conclusion, physical activity and smoking behavior were identified as dominant risk factors associated with the incidence of heart disease in both employees and farmers.

Stunting is associated with the risk of morbidity and mortality, poor brain development, as well as slow motor skill development and mental retardation. This research is a quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The population in this study were stunted toddlers in the Puskesmas working area with a total sample of 83 samples using a total sampling technique . The collected data was then analyzed univariately. The results showed that from a total of 83 samples, most of them were male (50.6%), most of the mothers with elementary school education/equivalent were 33 people (39.8%), most of them had fathers who worked as farmers as many as 55 people (66.3%). The majority of mothers work as IRT as many as 75 people (90.4%). Stunting toddlers have fathers with short height categories as many as 66 people (81.5%) and most of them have mothers with short height categories as many as 72 people (86.7%). With parents whose income is < Rp 1,000,000.00 per month as many as 29 toddlers (34.9%), most of the toddlers do not have a history of LBW as many as 69 toddlers (83.1%), having a history of complete immunization as many as 77 toddlers (92 ,8%) and did not have a history of exclusive breastfeeding, namely 49 toddlers (59.0%). Therefore, the researcher recommends that the Puskesmas provide additional education to mothers about stunting and the importance of exclusive breastfeeding at posyandu.

Abstract

Abstract

The increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is influenced by the interaction of internal and external multifactors. The incidence of DM is predicted to continue to increase to reach 578 million in 2030 and 700 million in 2045. This study aimed to analyze factors related to the incidence of diabetes in Indonesia.  This research used quantitative methods with a cross sectional approach and uses secondary data taken from the source "Riskesdas 2018". The unit of analysis in this research is 34 provinces in Indonesia. Data was analyzed using scatter plot diagrams. The results of the study showed that smoking habits, lack of physical activity, obesity, and difficulty in accessing primary health care have been shown to contribute to an increased risk of diabetes mellitus. Meanwhile, consumption of sweet foods is not directly related to an increase in diabetes mellitus. Health campaigns targeting smoking behavior, promotion of active lifestyles, education about the dangers of obesity, and improving the accessibility of health services can help reduce the risk of diabetes. Further research is needed to understand more deeply the factors that may contribute to the relationship between consumption of sweet foods that are not directly related to increased diabetes mellitus, as well as to design more effective intervention strategies.
