Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that has 2 main targets of treatment, keeping the glucose levels within normal range, and preventing complications. The purposed of this research is to know the description of blood glucose monitoring consisting of fasting blood glucose, HbA1C, and self  monitoring blood glucose (SMBG). This was a qualitative research by using observation method and deep interview to ten informant. The results showed the checkup of fasting blood glucose levels have been going well with some obstacles, for instance, running out of glucose strips. Puskesmas ‘X’ did not perform HbA1C checkup due to unavailability of laboratory equipment. Overall DM patients did not perform SMBG because they did not have the device, but the researchers obtained one patient who had a device at home, but the patient still chose to check his blood glucose at the puskesmas because the low knowledge of the patient to perform SMBG.

Abstract

Introduction: Based on WHO reports, nine out of ten people who live in rural areas still defecate carelessly. The results of an initial survey conducted in November 2018 of 46 houses along the Kampar river in the village of Buluh China Riau Province, 42% of the community still open defecation, such as into the river. This study aims to get a picture of defecation behavior in elementary school age children who live along the river. Methods: This research was conducted in Buluh Cina Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency, Riau Province which is a village close to a river. This type of research is a descriptive survey. This research was conducted in March to October 2019. The research subjects were elementary school students Buluh Cina with a total of 85 people. The instrument in this study was a questionnaire to measure knowledge, attitudes and practices related to defecation habits. Data analysis using descriptive analysis. Result and Discussion: The results showed that the median score of students' knowledge was 70 (maximum score is 100) and the average attitude score was 48. As many as 80% of students already have latrines at home, however, only 58.8% of students have defecated in their latrines, 57.6% of their latrines have clean water, soap and running water available. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study concluded that the behavior of elementary school children who live in watersheds is still not ideal and one of the causes is the unavailability of healthy latrine facilities at home

Abstract

At present, the behavior of Indonesian people, including in the village of Buluh Cina, is still widely accustomed to Open Defecation (OD), especially to rivers that are also used for washing, bathing and other hygienic needs. This community service activity has been carried out with the aim of helping to solve the problem of open defecation through community lead total sanitation (CLTS). The main target in this community service is people who still behave OD or do not have healthy latrines. In addition, other targets are health workers from the Siak Hulu Tiga Health Center and Buluh Cina village officials who will provide long-term guidance and supervision of the CLTS movement. Techniques / strategies for solving problems in community service activities are collecting data in the form of surveys and interviews and facilitating each CLTS triggering activity, as well as evaluating the success of interventions. This activity has been able to provide benefits to various parties, including the Department of Health, local government, health workers at the Puskesmas and especially the community that has carried out CLTS activities. Based on this CLTS triggering activity, there has been an increase in understanding and awareness of the importance of open defecation free (ODF) behavior and the importance of family healthy latrine ownership.

Abstract

Background: Food poisonings in Indonesia mostly occurred in catering services. Salmonella sp., Campylobacter, Listeria, and E. coli are the types of bacteria that frequently cause food poisoning. Objective: The study aimed to detect Salmonella sp. on foods served in several restaurants. Methods: This research is a survey research with crossectional method. Selection of the restaurant was done by random sampling. There were 12 subdistricts and two restaurants were selected from each subdistrict in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia. There were two types of foods consisted of animal and beans or vegetables, then 48 types of food from 24 Restaurants were obtained. The identification step was proceeded in Biochemical Laboratory of Health Polytechnic of Ministry of Health of Riau Province. This method was SNI 01-2332.2-1006 which was done with several steps of testing, namely pre-enrichment, enrichment, isolation and identification, and biochemical test. Data was presented in narration and univariate analysis for the frequency distribution of data. Results: In isolation and identification test steps on SS agar, there were 17 colonies found and suspected as Salmonella sp.. According to this data, it was found that 17 out of 48 (35,41%) of food samples in the restaurant contained bacteria. However, in the final steps of biochemical test there were 6 out of 48 total (12,5%) food samples contained Salmonella sp, and was found in 6 out of 24 restaurant (25%) and in 6 of 12 (50%) subdistricts. Foods that contained Salmonella sp. were rendang, chicken seasoning, tuna fish, vegetarian bak, fried shrimp, and grilled chicken Conclusion: Salmonella sp. found on foods served in several restaurants.

Abstract

Background: Obesity can occur in all ages, including adolescents. Multiple factors were known related to obesity including psychological factor. Eating excessively could be response toward loneliness, grief or depression. Anxiety can contribute to determining the food intake and nutrient substance, and stress can cause behavioral disorders such as abnormal (excessive) eating behavior that leads to obesity. Objective: The aimed of this research was to know depression, anxiety, and stress and their relationship with obesity in adolescents in Pekanbaru. Method: A cross-sectional research was performed, involving 132 subjects taken from 7 of 14 State Senior High Schools in Pekanbaru, 66 subjects were overweight/obese and 66 subjects were normal. Body mass index per age was used to determine their nutritional status according to Indonesian Ministry of Health Standard 2010 for nutritional status of 5-18 years old children. Depression, anxiety, and stress were measured by using DASS 42 Scale, and categorized only into normal or having depression/anxiety/stress. Data were statistically analyzed by using Chi-Square test with significance level 95%.Results: The results showed 17.4% subjects were categorized depression, 65.2% were anxiety and 34.8% were stress. Statistically analyzed using Fisher test showed that there was significant association between depression with obesity (p=0.003, OR=0,219) and stress with obesity (p=0.044, OR=0,028).Conclusion: Psychological aspects such as depression and stress were related to obesity in State Senior High Schools Students in Pekanbaru

Abstract

Obesity concern is a global issue due to the prevalence is increasing in all age groups, including adolescence group. The objective of the study was to reveal the role of educational institutions in assisting the management of obesity in adolescents. A qualitative descriptive study design was adopted, which was conducted at the Department of Education and Culture and three senior high schools (SMA) in Pekanbaru City which was determined by purposive sampling. The research informants were the head of the Pekanbaru city education and culture office, the principal, teachers, and youth (students). The determination of the number of informants is based on the principles of adequacy and representation. Data were collected by means of in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and observations. Data analysis in the form of qualitative analysis, describe the role of educational institutions in helping the management of obesity in adolescents (students). The results showed that the components that support the management of obesity in adolescents include a strong commitment from the education office, the availability of infrastructure and financial support. Some things that are not yet optimal include; there is no written policy (regulations, decrees, circular letters) specifically aimed at helping adolescent obesity treatment in schools, curriculum in subjects does not support students to be physically active nor does it support the provision of balanced nutrition, and there is still a lack of involvement of various parties comprehensively and across sectors. Overall, it is concluded that the role of educational institutions in managing obesity in adolescents has not been optimal.

Abstract

Garbage is the leftover product from every human daily activity that is thrown away which, if not managed properly, can cause environmental and health problems. Waste bank is a form community participation in waste management. Air Putih Sub-dsitrict already has a waste bank that is actively operating. However its activities are still limited to collect inorganic waste from customers and sell it to collectors. In order to increase the value of inorganic waste collected in the waste bank, a training to decorate used items using decoupage technique was conducted. Waste bank managers and Empowerment Family Welfare (PKK) members were participated in this training. In addition, a training how to use social media as a marketing media were performed. The results showed that the target community's skills had been achieved in processing inorganic waste into decorative items with higher economic value. Meanwhile, the sustainability of production and the economic impact resulting from these trainings still require further evaluation.

Abstract

Pelita Medika 1 Village Meranti Pandak Village is an endemic area for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). This is supported by environmental conditions and community behavior that is at risk for the occurrence of DHF. Therefore, since 2018 in the area, larval monitoring activities have been carried out. Since 2019 it has stopped until now. Therefore, it is necessary to revitalize the implementation of the larva monitoring activities, especially in the current era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Where the purpose of this revitalization is to refresh the knowledge and skills of jumantik cadres in the implementation of larva monitoring and motivate these cadres to commit to carrying out these activities regularly. This activity is carried out through counseling, training, demonstration, and role play methods. The learning media used are using power points for presentations, video playback of larva monitoring activities. This activity resulted in an increase in the knowledge and skills of the jumantik cadres in carrying out larva monitoring, as well as a declaration of commitment to reactivate larva monitoring activities with the 1 house 1 jumantik program.

Abstract

Changes in air quality increase host susceptibility to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Retrospective cohort study to see the relationship between air pollution levels and climate with tuberculosis cases in Pekanbaru City in 2015 – 2020. It found there is a significant positive correlation between PM10, SO2, CO, O3, NO2, PM2.5 and the number of tuberculosis cases per day. While in climate, temperature and humidity parameters do not provide a significant relationship, while rainfall and wind speed provide a very weak correlation strength with tuberculosis. We conclude there is a positive correlation air pollution and the number of tuberculosis cases per day.

Abstract

Abstract Optimization of Family Medicinal Plants (Toga) and Dasa Wisma (Dawis) as a Source of Nutrition for the Community in the Context of Stunting Prevention in Sungai Paku Village, Kampar Kiri District. The target of this service activity regarding the use of Toga and Dawis in efforts to strengthen family food and prevent stunting is Mrs. -Adab PKK mothers in Sungai Paku Village, Kampar Kiri District with the number of participants consisting of 4 different hamlets. In this activity, resource persons were used by students from the University of Riau, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Fisheries, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and Government Sciences who were guided by Field Supervisors from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau. Based on the results obtained, the use of the Toga and Dawis yards was not optimal. This can be seen in the grassy toga and Dawsi plants, there are areas of Pekaranga that are still empty without plants. Through this community empowerment program, the community is expected to be able to manage and utilize existing yards. In utilizing Toga and Dawis' yard land, conceptually the benefits of Toga and Dawis can be taken into account which are productive: a) Many people are not aware of the results of Toga and Dawis which can provide additional income such as medicines or food for daily living needs. -day. -days in order to live easily, cheaply and healthily. b) Toga and Dawis land use is part of creating a comfortable, healthy and beautiful environment that is sustainable and environmentally friendly (sustainable development). c) improve the quality of a cool, healthy and beautiful environment. d) can spread family creativity e) provide comfort and the physical and spiritual needs of the family f) utilize the yard with educational value. Based on data obtained from Posyandu activities in Sungai Paku Village, it was recorded that in July 2023 there was 1 child under five who was affected by stunting. From this data, it was found that Sungai Paku Village is one of the villages with a low level of stunting disease and is considered to have recovered. However, to break the chain of stunting in children, continuous efforts are certainly needed and must always be paid attention to by the community and the government. One of the factors of stunting is nutritional adequacy. Even though there have been improvements, there is a possibility that stunting could occur again in the community.
