Abstract

The case of sending a package of pig heads to Tempo journalists on March 19, 2025, sparked widespread attention, particularly after the response of the Head of the Presidential Communications Office, Hasan Nasbi, was deemed to lack empathy. This study aims to examine the framing of Detik.com and Kompas.com regarding this response in the context of terror against journalists and government public communication. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with Pan and Kosicki's framing analysis of 14 news articles published between March 19 and April 9, 2025. The findings show that Detik.com presents the issue dynamically by including government clarifications as well as political and ethical criticism, thus highlighting the polemic of elite communication. In contrast, Kompas.com emphasizes the issue of press freedom and the chronology of events at the beginning of the report, then directs the narrative to the government's internal evaluation through the President's acknowledgment of responsibility. Differences in structure and choice of diction demonstrate the media's role in shaping meaning and influencing public perceptions of press terror, state accountability, and the quality of democratic communication.

Abstract

The problem of the depiction of widows in the media cannot be separated from the discourse on gender inequality. The status of widows in the media tends to be presented homogeneously, namely that women are subordinated. This article explores the discourse construction and representation of widows in Indonesian web series. This research aims to describe the representation of widows broadcast in digital-based media with a focus on the web series Terlanjur Sayang. This research uses a narrative approach with Roland Barthes' semiological method which is supported by narrative analysis by Nick Lacey and Vladimir Propp as an analytical tool. Representation Theory is placed as an academic foundation. The results of the research show that widows are represented as people who are not financially independent, seducers of men, manipulative or deceitful, and people who are treacherous. The placement of widows in the narrative structure is positioned as a party that disturbs the balance and is the cause of social loss. This research also shows that widows are represented through women who colonize men with their symbolic capital. The web series Terlanjur Sayang gives rise to the myth of widows as people who pretend to be naïve.
