Abstract

Mistletoes (Dendrophthoe pentandra L. Miq) is one of the medicine plant which used traditionally to remedy the various of disease. Empirically, communities used mistletoes leaves as cough, tonsillitis, measles, cancer, diuretic, and pain relievers. This research is aimed to determine total flavonoid content in extract of mistletoes leaves (Dendrophthoe pentandra L. Miq). Extraction has done with Thin Layer Cromathography (KLT) method to determine active content which in sample. Analysis of chemistry content in ethanolic extract of mistletoes leaves show are flavonoid content. Content of total flavonoid with Chang et al., 2002 method using UV-Vis spectrophotometry at a wavelength of 440 nm. From this research result 39.713 g ethanolic extract with percent of extract rendamen is 6.109% from 650 g dry powder of mistletoes leaves. The results of total flavonoid of ethanolic extract of mistletoes leaves is 2.48% calculated as quercetin.

Abstract

Castor Plant (Ricinus communis L.) belongs to Euphorbiaceae family. In medicine has been used as antioxidant, antihistaminic, antifertility, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antiinflammatory, antipyretic, and it has activities to larvacidal, molluscicidal and insecticidal. The aim of this study was to determine the level of mosquito larva (Aedes aegypti) mortality after giving of ethanolic extract showed with LC50. Extract obtained by maceration method, rendamen ethanolic extract obtained as much as 6.073%. This research uses 110 instar, III larvae of mosquito (Aedes aegypti), divided into test solution are made with 3 concentrations (10 µg/mL, 100 µg/mL, 1000 µg/mL), positive control using Abate and negative control using water. Observations were made after 24 hours of treatment. Toxicity test results shows ethanolic extract is an extract that is active as Larvacidal showed LC50 as much as 138,995 ± 1,5 µg/mL < 1000 µg/mL. Based on qualitative testing of the chemical component using TLC method known ethanolic extract of Castor Plant (Ricinus communis L.) leaves contain alcaloids, saponins and flavonoids.

Abstract

Neem (Azadirachta indica A.Juss.) Is a plant that has medicinal benefits as malaria, antitukak stomach and is also can used as natural insecticides, fungicides, larvicides and antifertility.  This Research  aims to know the mortality rate of larvae of Aedes aegypti with LC50 values indicated. Neem fruit plucked from a tree lombok island.neem. Extracts obtained by maceration solvent with the masceration methanol. Retrieved rendamen extract as much as 25,17%, then purified with n-hexane solvent. Larvasida test used 180 larvae of Aedes aegypti first instar III. Test solutions were made in 4 concentration, positive control using powder Abate® (Themephos), and a negative control. Observations were made after 24 hours of treatment . Aedes aegypti larval mortality analyzed with probid analysis to know LC50 and obtained phytochemical components contained in the methanol extracts were saponins and tannins. LC50 obtained from the methanol extract of neem fruit flesh is 1817,18 ± 1,075 µg/ml. This shows the methanol extract of neem fruit flesh (Azadirachta indica A.Juss.) Does not have the effect toxicity against larvae of Aedes aegypti indicated by LC50 > 1000 ppm. Keywords: Flesh neem, Azadirachta indica A. Juss., Aedes aegypti, LC50.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and compare the phenolic and flavonoid content of methanol extract in Acacia rugata (Lam.) Fawc. Rendle leaves using UV-Vis spechtrophotometer and TLC-densitometry. The Acacia rugata (Lam.) Fawc. Rendle extracted by using maceration applied sonicator. The quantitative analysis measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer at wavelength 430 nm. The TLC–densitometry performed at wavelength of 254 nm and quercetin was as a standard. The results showed that the phenolic total showed 0.506 gGAE/g extract and 0.879 gGAE/g extract. The flavonoid total showed 0.44 gQE/g extract and 0.73 gQE/mg extract respectively.

Abstract

Fruit and leaves of patikala (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm), is a traditional medicinal plants used by people to treat various diseases. The purpose of this study was to determine the total phenolic and flavonoid compounds of E. elatior fruits and leaves extracts. We extracted dried fruits and leaves samples by maceration method using methanol. Qualitative analysis of chemical compounds with certain eluent was done using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to determine the group of active compounds in the extract. The amount of phenolic compounds in the sample was determined by the colorimetric method at a maximum wavelength of 744.8 nm and flavonoid at 431 nm. The results showed that the methanol extract rendemen was 1.93% for fruit and 5.17% for leaf with a total phenolic content of the fruit was 2.29 mgGAE/g b/b extract and leaf was 6.29 mgGAE/g b/b extract. And total flavonoid content of the fruit was 1.7761 % mg Quercetin/g b/b extract and leaf was 5.45 mgQE/g b/b extract.

Abstract

Patikala (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm) is a plant of the Zingiberaceae family. Patikala (E. elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm) have bioactive compounds are flavonoids that act as antioxidants. The purpose of this study was to measure free radical activity in the methanol extract of the fruit and leaves Patikala (E. elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm). Extraction of flowers and leaf samples by maceration method using methanol. Qualitative analysis of chemical compounds with certain eluent using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) to determine the group of active compounds in the extract. Antioxidant activity assay using the immersion method of DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl Hidrazil) measured absorption at a wavelength of 517 nm and compared with the power of antioxidant quersetin. The results showed that the methanol extract rendemen is at 1.935% for flowers and leaves at 5.17%. Antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of the flowers patikala (E. elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm) have low antioxidant activity with the value IC50 101.84 mg / mL and methanol extracts of leaves Patikala (E. elatior (Jack) R.MSm) have strong antioxidant activity with value IC50 30,65 mg / mL. This potential is lower than that of quercetin IC50 value of 5.35 mg / mL.

Abstract

Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is one of the most widely used plants in Indonesia. Green tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is rich in catechins which have many benefits including antioxidants, anticancer, can reduce stress, and reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. This study aims to determine the levels of catechins in Green Tea (Camellia sinensis L.) extract with various extraction methods. Each sample was extracted by maceration, microwave and infusion using aquadest solvent and the extract obtained in Freeze Drying. Qualitative analysis using 1% FeCl3 reagent, positive catechins are indicated by a color change to blackish blue and quantitative analysis using TLC-Densitometry. The results showed the catechin content of the extract by maceration method was 331 mg/g
