Abstract

Algebraic reasoning is essential for students to develop thinking systematically and analytically to conclude. This study analyzes students' algebraic reasoning levels about learning limit functions. The method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques using algebraic reasoning tests on 23 first-semester students of the mathematics education study program and interviews conducted with one student from each of the high, medium, and low levels. Data analysis techniques in this study consist of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusions. In completing the algebraic reasoning test, students with high levels can fulfill four of the five indicators of algebraic reasoning. Students with a moderate level of algebraic reasoning can fulfill three of the five indicators of algebraic reasoning. Students with a low level of algebraic reasoning can fulfill four of the five indicators of algebraic reasoning. Students with high, medium, and low algebraic reasoning cannot find patterns, create patterns, and generalize patterns. Keywords: reasoning algebraic, function limit, generalized patterns

Abstract

Elementary school teachers in Indonesia are required to master many subjects to be taught to their students. It is undeniable that the teachers’ mastery of knowledge (material) in some subjects inadequate. Therefore, it is worth to argue that there was a misconception in mathematics teaching in elementary schools. This research was designed using a qualitative approach. The participants of this study were 30 elementary school teachers in Semarang city area, Central Java province, Indonesia. The research data were obtained through questionnaires, and interviews. The purpose of the study was to discuss the types and causes of the misconception of mathematics teaching in elementary schools. Alternative solutions were also presented to problem-solving so that misconceptions do not occur anymore in mathematics teaching. The findings show that, teachers evenly experience types of misconceptions: (1) pre-conception, (2) under-generalization, (3) over-generalization, (4) modelling error, (5) prototyping error; and (6) process-object error in teaching mathematics in elementary schools. Some misconceptions have taken root and are difficult to remove, called "ontological misconceptions" because of teachers' years of belief that the knowledge they received was true when in fact it was not quite right.

Abstract

This study aimed to (1) analyze the role of scaffolding in deconstructing pseudo-thinking structure, and (2) analyze the development of students' thinking structures after receiving scaffolding. The study was framed with a qualitative methodology by involving case study design. This research was conducted at State Junior High School 31 in Semarang City, Indonesia. Data was collected through tests, observation, and interview methods.  Result of the study indicated that (1) scaffolding has changed the pseudo thinking process into a real thought process, and (2) scaffolding could develop students’ thinking structure into a more complex (abstract) level. Their thinking structure was initially on the stage of comparative thinking structure before receiving scaffolding assistance and after receiving scaffolding, to developed into the stage of logical reasoning thinking structure. In other words, scaffolding could become a useful strategy to help students go through different    Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD).

Abstract

The ability that students must have in the 21st-century learning era is mathematical literacy. Generally, the selection and use of inappropriate textbooks is a factor in low mathematical literacy. The research aims to determine the effectiveness of using modules based on the Missouri Mathematics Project model in improving students' mathematical literacy. The type of research used is quantitative, using a one-shot case study. The participants of this study were 27 lower secondary students. The results showed that the module based on the Missouri Mathematics Project model could improve mathematical literacy with a classical completeness of 96%. Additionally, it can be interpreted from a one-sided t-test that the module based on the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) model is effective in improving students' mathematical literacy. The findings can assist educators in effectively utilising the modules based on the Missouri Mathematics Project model and its integration into their teaching practices.

Abstract

Salah satu tujuan pembelajaran matematika adalah membekali siswa agar dapat memecahkan masalah. Namun, hasil observasi menunjukkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa masih belum maksimal atau tergolong rendah. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis pembelajaran berbasis STEM dalam melatih kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIII pada materi statistika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Adapun subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII F MTs Negeri 2 Kota Semarang yang berjumlah 34 siswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu lembar observasi, tiga jenis lembar kerja siswa, dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis STEM pada materi statistika dilaksanakan melalui tahap ask, imagine, plan, create, dan improve dengan mengintegrasikan setiap aspek science, technology, engineering dan mathematics ke dalam proses pembelajaran. Siswa disajikan permasalahan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari atau dunia nyata yang relevan kemudian melalui tahap ask siswa mengidentifikasi masalah. Tahap imagine siswa memikirkan solusi yang terbaik untuk menyelesaikan masalah berdasarkan konsep dan pada tahap plan siswa membuat rancangan penyelesaian agar solusi yang dipilih dapat digunakan. Pada tahap create siswa melaksanakan penyelesaian masalah berdasarkan rancangan yang dibuat dan di tahap akhir yaitu improve siswa membuat kesimpulan atas hasil yang diperoleh. Kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa sebesar 80,86% yang dikategorikan baik.

Abstract

Pembelajaran berdiferensiasi digunakan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan siswa dalam memahami materi pembelajaran sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dapat meningkat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis proses pembelajaran berdiferensiasi terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis pada materi operasi hitung aljabar. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Islam Sultan Agung Semarang dengan subjek penelitian adalah guru matematika dan 30 siswa kelas VII A5. Teknik pengumpulan data dilaksanakan dengan observasi, wawancara, tes, dan studi dokumen. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu langkah pembelajaran dengan identifikasi keragaman, membagi kelompok siswa, memberikan diferensiasi konten, memberikan diferensiasi proses, dan memberikan diferensiasi produk. Lembar kerja yang diberikan memuat langkah FRISCO. Focus difasilitasi dengan bentuk soal PGK (Pilihan Ganda Kompleks) berupa langkah-langkah, uraian, dan soal cerita. Reason difasilitasi guru memberikan pendekatan agar siswa dapat mengkonstruksi konsep dengan tahapan-tahapan yang telah diberikan guru. Inference difasilitasi guru membantu siswa membuat kesimpulan yang tepat. Situation difasilitasi guru memberikan arahan agar semua diisi dan dicek pengerjaan siswa secara berkala. Clarity difasilitasi guru memberikan tugas yang dikaitkan dengan kehidupan sehari- hari. Overview difasilitasi guru memberikan stimulus, waktu pengerjaan, dan arahan untuk mengecek ulang jawaban sebelum dikumpulkan. Peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis terbukti dari nilai lembar kerja pertemuan pertama, kedua, ketiga, dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis. Inteval nilai 81-100 dengan kategori sangat tinggi meningkat 100%. Indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis juga dipenuhi rata-rata 90% siswa.

Abstract

Abstrak—Latar Belakang: Kemampuan pemecahan masalah merupakan kemampuan yang penting dimiliki oleh siswa agar terbiasa menghadapi berbagai macam permasalahan kehidupan. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan motivasi belajar melalui pendekatan teaching at the right level (TaRL) berbantuan Quizizz. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metodologi penelitian tindakan kelas. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan model siklus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI-3 SMA Islam Sultan Agung 03 Semarang. Teknik pengumpulan data melalui tes, angket, dan observasi. Data penelitian ini dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif. Hasil: Penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil adanya peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan motivasi belajar siswa yang terjadi dari siklus I ke siklus II. Selain itu, diperoleh bahwa persentase siswa tuntas KKM pada siklus II yaitu 92,6% atau melebihi 80% yang artinya telah mencapai keberhasilan penelitian ini. Kesimpulan: Penerapan pendekatan teaching at the right level berbantuan media pembelajaran Quizizz dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan motivasi belajar siswa. Kata Kunci— kemampuan pemecahan masalah; motivasi belajar; TaRL; Quizizz Abstract— Background: Problem-solving ability is an important skill for students to have in order to become accustomed to facing various kinds of problems that exist. However, the condition in the field shows the condition of students' problem-solving abilities is still low. Objective: This research aims to improve problem-solving abilities and learning motivation through the TaRL approach assisted by Quizizz. Methods: This research method adopts a classroom action research methodology. This research was conducted using a cyclical model. The subjects of this study were students of class XI-3 SMA Islam Sultan Agung 03 Semarang. The data collection techniques used were through tests, questionnaires, and observations. The research data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. Results: This research shows the results of an increase in problem-solving abilities and student learning motivation that occurred from cycle I to cycle II. In addition, it was found that the percentage of students completing the KKM in cycle II was 92.6% or exceeding 80%, which means that this research has achieved success. Conclusion: This research concludes that the application of the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach assisted by Quizizz learning media can improve students' problem-solving abilities and learning motivation. Abstract

Creative Thinking in Prospective Mathematics Teachers: Flexibility in Solving Systems of Linear Equations. Objectives: The main aim of this research is to determine the flexibility of prospective mathematics teachers in solving systems of linear equations. Apart from that, this research also aims to find factors that are taken into consideration by prospective mathematics teachers in determining the method for solving systems of linear equations. Methods: Data collection techniques are carried out through tests. The test is used to determine the flexibility or number of methods used by prospective mathematics teachers in solving systems of linear equations. Qualitative descriptive methodology and interviews with prospective mathematics teachers were used in this research to interpret the results and analyze the factors considered by prospective mathematics teachers in choosing the method used to solve systems of linear equations. Findings:The results of this research reveal that prospective mathematics teachers have 6 methods that can be used to solve systems of linear equations. Conclusion: The factors taken into consideration by teachers in determining the chosen method are based on three numerical factors, namely the number of variables to be searched for, the number of operations to be used and the number of steps to be carried out in solving a system of linear equations. Keywords: creative thinking, flexibility, mathematics. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v14.i2.202459

Abstract

Penelitian ini menerapkan mixed methods dengan desain embedded experimental.  Tujuan penelitian untuk mendeskripsikan implementasi pembelajaran matematika terintegrasi nilai Islam dalam membentuk karakter religious mahasiswa, dan menguji adanya pengaruh karakter religious dan motivasi terhadap prestasi belajar mahasiswa  dalam pembelajaran matematika terintegrasi nilai Islam. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari seorang dosen, seorang observer, dan 35 mahasiswa calon guru matematika. Pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui wawancara, angket, tes, dan observasi.  Data kualitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif dan data kuantitatif dianalisis melalui  uji korelasi dan ANOVA. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa implementasi pembelajaran matematika terintegrasi nilai-nilai Islam dalam rangka mengembangkan karakter religious terdiri tiga tahap yaitu: tahap penanaman nilai, tahap implementasi, dan tahap reflection. Implementasi pembelajaran matematika terintegrasi nilai Islam telah membentuk mahasiswa memiliki karakter religious dan mampu mengingat 4 – 5 ayat Al Quran dan maknanya. Analisis inferensi menunjukkan terdapat korelasi antara variable religious charater dan motivation terhadap prestasi belajar.  Ketiga variable memiliki hubungan searah (positif). Hal ini berarti, apabila religious charater dan motivation semakin tinggi maka prestasi belajar semakin tinggi (mengalami kenaikan). Secara simultan variable karakter religious dan motivasi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap variable prestasi belajar. This study applies mixed methods with an embedded experimental design. The research objectives were to describe the implementation of Islamic values integrated mathematics learning in shaping students' religious character, and examine the influence of religious character and motivation on student achievement in learning mathematics integrated with Islamic values. The research participants consisted of a lecturer, an observer, and 35 students. Data collection was obtained through interviews, questionnaires, tests, and observation. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively and quantitative data were analyzed through correlation tests and ANOVA. The results of the study concluded that the implementation of integrated mathematics learning with Islamic values in order to develop religious character consisted of three stages, namely the value instillation stage, the implementation stage, and the reflection stage. The implementation of learning mathematics integrated with Islamic values has formed students who have religious character and are able to remember 4-5 verses of the Koran and their meanings. Inference analysis shows that there is a correlation between religious character and motivation variables on learning achievement. The three variables have a unidirectional (positive) relationship. This means, if the religious character and motivation are higher, the learning achievement will be higher (increase). Simultaneously the variables of religious character and motivation have a significant effect on the learning achievement variable.

Abstract

Penelitian pengembangan lembar kerja interaktif berbasis teknologi masih sangat terbatas. Penelitian bertujuan mengembangkan lembar kerja interaktif berbantuan Liveworksheets sebagai upaya meningkatkan literasi numerasi siswa yang memenuhi kriteria valid, praktis, dan efektif. Kevalidan lembar kerja interaktif dinilai oleh ahli media dan ahli materi. Kepraktisan penggunaan lembar kerja interaktif berdasarkan respon guru dan siswa. Keefektifan implementasi pembelajaran trigonometri menggunakan lembar kerja interaktif ditinjau dari hasil peningkatan pretest dan postest kemampuan literasi numerasi siswa. Penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model ADDIE, meliputi Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan Lembar kerja Interaktif berbantuan Liveworksheets valid dengan skor 86% ​​dari ahli media dan 80% dari ahli materi. Penggunaan lembar kerja interaktif berkategori sangat praktis dengan skor 94,80% dari angket respon guru dan 84,60% dari angket respon siswa. Pembelajaran menggunakan lembar kerja interaktif berbantuan Liveworksheets efektif meningkatkan literasi numerasi siswa. Bantuan scaffolding berbasis teknologi yang diterapkan pada pembelajaran menggunakan liveworksheet menjadi lebih menarik dan memotivasi siswa untuk berpikir literasi numerasi.Research on the development of technology-based interactive worksheets is still minimal. The study aims to develop interactive worksheets assisted by Liveworksheets to improve students' numeracy literacy that meets the criteria of valid, practical, and effective. Media experts and material experts assess the validity of interactive worksheets. The practicality of using interactive worksheets is based on teacher and student responses. The effectiveness of implementing trigonometry learning using interactive worksheets is reviewed from the results of the pretest and posttest increase in students' numeracy literacy skills. The development research uses the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study results showed that the Interactive Worksheet assisted by Liveworksheets was valid, with 86% validity from media experts and 80% from material experts. Interactive worksheets are categorized as very practical, with a score of 94.80% from the teacher response questionnaire and 84.60% from the student response questionnaire. Learning using interactive worksheets assisted by Liveworksheets effectively improves students' numeracy literacy. Technology-based scaffolding assistance applied to learning using liveworksheets makes it more interesting and motivates students to think about numeracy literacy.
