Abstract

This study aims to develop a similarity learning module based on ethnomathematics by raising the Troso Jepara fabric motif as a relevant local cultural context, and to examine the validity and practicality of the module in improving students' numeracy literacy. The ethnomathematics approach is used to integrate cultural values in mathematics learning, so that students not only understand the concept of similarity abstractly but are also able to relate it to everyday life. The research method used is the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), with a focus on the development and validation stages. For the Disseminate stage, this stage was not carried out. The instruments used include expert validation sheets and teacher and student response questionnaires. The results of the validation by experts obtained an average final score of 3.62, indicating that the module is in the very valid category with several suggestions for product revision, while the results of teacher and student responses obtained an average score of 3.36 indicating that the module is practical to use. Thus, this module can be an alternative contextual and meaningful teaching material in mathematics learning at junior high school level. The results of this study indicate that the developed learning module has met the criteria of being valid and practical for use. Through this study, teachers can integrate local cultural values into mathematics learning, which not only enriches the ethnomathematics approach but also supports the improvement of students' numeracy literacy. This module has a positive impact on students' ability to understand the concept of similarity and apply it relevantly in the context of local culture, so that learning becomes more meaningful and applicable.

Abstract

Algebraic reasoning is a fundamental competency in mathematics learning; however, many students experience difficulties in applying algebraic concepts, particularly in quadratic functions. This study aims to enhance students’ algebraic reasoning through the implementation of the SSCS (Search, Solve, Create, and Share) strategy, a structured problem-solving instructional approach that emphasizes systematic exploration, solution development, model construction, and mathematical communication. The study employed a collaborative classroom action research design involving Grade X senior high school students, conducted across two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Students’ algebraic reasoning was assessed using indicators that include pattern recognition, algebraic representation, manipulation of algebraic expressions, and logical justification. Data were collected through algebraic reasoning tests and classroom observation sheets. The findings reveal a substantial improvement in students’ algebraic reasoning abilities, with the mean score increasing from 62.33 in the pre-cycle to 81.25 in Cycle II. Additionally, the percentage of students achieving mastery learning increased from 27.78% to 91.67%. These results indicate that the SSCS strategy effectively supports the development of algebraic reasoning by engaging students in structured problem-solving and reflective mathematical communication.

Abstract

According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) based on a survey conducted in 2022, the numeracy literacy skills of students in Indonesia are still below the average survey score. Based on interviews with mathematics teachers at SMP Negeri 37 Semarang, students tend to be lazy and unmotivated to work on story problems, especially in statistics. This study aims to determine the effect of motivation on the Teams Games Tournament learning model assisted by Quick Response Code on numeracy literacy skills. Quick Response Code is used as a creative way to deliver tournament questions packaged in 3 colored cards, namely green, blue, and pink. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. The sample in this study consisted of 28 students in class VIII B of SMP Negeri 37 Semarang in the 2025/2026 academic year. The results of the descriptive analysis showed an increase in the average pretest and posttest scores from 34,46 to 71,43. The results of hypothesis testing using a simple linear regression test between the motivation questionnaire and the numeracy literacy posttest obtained a significance value of 0.021 < 0.05 and  namely 2,452 > 2,056. The effect was 18.8%. These findings indicate that motivation has an effect on numeracy literacy ability, albeit a small percentage. Significant efforts to improve numeracy literacy ability require a continuous learning process, a supportive learning environment, and a sufficient amount of time.
