Abstract

The enthusiasm for maintaining health has increased in line with the Covid-19 pandemic, though they have to pay the higher price. Therefore, study aims to determine changes in people's behavior in consuming organic vegetables due to Covid-19, willingness to pay (WTP) and factors that influence. The research was conducted in three stages--descriptive socio-demographic factors, calculation of WTP with the Contingent Valuation Method approach and SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis. Based on 155 respondents who determined by Slovin formula and accidental sampling technique. The study showed that consumers had a higher WTP for various types of organic vegetables, especially spinach, chayote, and kale. However, this WTP is significantly influenced by level of education, type of work and income. Consumer behavior significantly affected WTP for organic vegetables during Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, Covid-19 pandemic provides great potential for an increase in the number of consumption and purchases of organic vegetables.

Abstract

Production of liquid biofertilizer Azotobacter requires pure inoculum with N2 fixation capacity, hormone production, and optimal cell density.   This research was conducted to determine the effect of Fe-Mo microelement and Azotobacter inoculant concentration   on enhancement of hormones and total nitrogen content as well as  Azotobacter population in liquid culture. The experiment used Randomized Completely Design with six treatments and three replications. The treatments were combination of inoculant concentration (without, 5%, 10% and 15%) and  Fe-Mo solution (with and without Fe-Mo).  The result showed that addition of Fe and Mo microelements in liquid culture increased Cytokinin production as well as population density of Azotobacter.  Inoculant concentration of 10% with the addition of micronutrients  Fe  and  Mo  was  able  to  optimize  the  production  of hormones, nitrogen fixation, and cell density of Azotobacter. Keywords : Fe, Mo, Total Nitrogen, Hormone, Azotobacter

Abstract

The landscape changes through the increasing built-up areas (settlements and industrial) have a potential impact on reducing the quality of agricultural land. Waste from anthropogenic activities (industrial and domestic) is the main source of heavy metals that can affect rice production in the fields. This study examines the quality changes of paddy fields (Oryza sativa L.) polluted by wastewater in Muara Bakti Village, Bekasi Regency. Wastewater's impact on paddy fields is known through heavy metal contamination analysis in soil and rice plants. Chemical analysis of soil, water and plants was completed by the Balai Penelitian Tanaman Sayuran (Balitsa) Laboratory, West Bandung. The results showed that heavy metal levels such as lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in the paddy soil samples were above the threshold in soil, respectively more than 25 mg/l and 0.01 mg/l. In contrast, the rice plant samples, it was identified as containing heavy metals such as Cd and chromium (Cr). Pb content was not detected in the rice plants. Soil in Muara Bakti Village contained optimal nutrients that are still suitable for agriculture. However, heavy metal content detected in soil samples and rice plants requires special handling to prevent endangering the agroecosystem and human health. Keywords: Agroecosystem, Heavy metals, Paddy fields, Soil pollution, Waste

Abstract

The increasing trend of a healthy lifestyle among urban communities has driven innovation in urban agriculture, one of which is aquaponics technology. Aquaponics is a sustainable farming system that integrates fish farming and plant cultivation within a single ecosystem, making it an effective solution for utilizing home yards. The Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi, as a higher education institution, has a responsibility to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, one of which is Community Service (PPM). This PPM activity aims to provide outreach and training on aquaponics to support the Diversified, Nutritious, Balanced, and Safe (B2SA) program at the Al-Hasan Mekarsari Foundation in Bogor. The program primarily involved female participants aged 21–30 years. The methods employed included education sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice in the installation and maintenance of aquaponic systems. The evaluation results indicated that participants comprehended the aquaponics concept and were capable of independently applying it at home. Furthermore, the program was perceived as beneficial in enhancing the availability of healthy food based on the B2SA principles within households. Through this initiative, the community is expected to adopt aquaponics technology as a practical solution for strengthening household food security and raising awareness of the importance of a healthy diet. Future sustainability of the program is anticipated to be expanded through further collaborations with various stakeholders to promote broader adoption of aquaponics in urban areas.
