Abstract

This study aims to analyse the development of Kapas Biru Waterfall as a nature-based tourist attraction in Lumajang Regency using the 6A approach: Attraction, Accessibility, Amenities, Available Packages, Activities, and Ancillary Services. The research method applied is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that Kapas Biru Waterfall possesses a strong natural appeal with its pristine landscape. However, accessibility remains limited due to steep terrain and a lack of supporting infrastructure. Available amenities, such as restrooms, resting areas, and directional signage, are still basic. Formal tour packages are not yet available, and tourism activities are mainly limited to trekking and photography. Ancillary services such as tourist information and safety facilities are also underdeveloped. Supporting factors for tourism development include natural beauty, active community participation, and promotion through social media. Conversely, the main constraints are poor infrastructure, limited facilities, insufficient government involvement, and the absence of an integrated and sustainable management system. This study is expected to serve as a reference in formulating strategies for developing Kapas Biru Waterfall into a competitive and sustainable nature tourism destination in Lumajang Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the dark tourism spectrum of the Lapindo mudflow area as a dark tourism destination in Sidoarjo Regency, while contributing to academic literacy in tourism studies in Indonesia. The literature review refers to tourism theory, the concept of dark tourism, the dark tourism spectrum, and the Seven Dark Suppliers framework. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilising in-depth interviews and field observations. The findings reveal two main attractions, namely the Lapindo Tragedy Monument, which falls into the darker category, and the active mudflow site, which is classified as darkest within the dark tourism spectrum. Overall, the area’s potential is categorised as moderate, with its main strengths lying in its historical narrative and unique location, yet still requiring the development of facilities, interpretation, and tourism product diversification to ensure destination sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract The present studies show that environmental problems caused by household waste are a critical issue, including in Indonesia. A survey conducted in 2020 among 140 households that use cooking oil revealed that only 35.7% of respondents dispose of their used cooking oil. A promising approach is the upcycling or recycling of waste into products with added value. This concept is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 11, which deals with sustainable cities and settlements. The overarching goal of SDG 11 is to emphasise the importance of creating cities and settlements that are inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. This study focuses on analysing the potential of recycling used oil in the community of Dukuh Pakis with the aim of promoting the realisation of sustainable settlements. Based on the results of using used cooking oil to make aromatherapy candles in the village of Dukuh Pakis, it can be hypothesised that this initiative not only has a positive impact on the awareness and skills of the population, but is also in line with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11.
