Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of first mating age on birth weight, daily weight gain, and weaning weight in Etawa crossbred (PE) goat kids. Twenty female and four male goats were divided into four groups (5:1). Group P1 consisted of 7‑month‑old goats with an average body weight of 28.51 ± 1.32 kg, P2 were 9‑month‑old goats weighing 34.83 ± 2.73 kg, P3 were 11‑month‑old goats at 37.23 ± 3.58 kg, and P4 were 13‑month‑old goats at 40.29 ± 3.66 kg. All goats were raised under the same farm conditions. Parameters observed included birth weight, weight gain, and weaning weight. Results showed no significant differences (P > 0.5) among groups for birth weight, daily gain, or weaning weight. However, litter size differed significantly (P < 0.5) between treatments. In conclusion, first mating age (7, 9, 11, and 13 months) did not affect growth performance, but influenced litter size outcomes.
