Abstract

This article explores the ethical aspects of solidarity in the role of social workers assisting victims of sexual violence. Social workers are expected to uphold equality and justice for victims, who are often vulnerable and marginalized. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature study. The findings reveal that social workers provide protection and empowerment to support victims’ recovery. They emphasize solidarity as a foundation for effective assistance, recognizing its importance in their ethical duties. Despite challenges where some assistance may not be fully embraced by victims, social workers remain committed to their role in fostering solidarity and advocating for justice. Abstract

This article explores the ordered concepts of ‘Law and Gospel’ by Martin Luther and ‘Gospel and Law’ by Karl Barth. On the one hand, Luther understood Law and the Gospel as two different but not separate concepts of Christian life. The Law is what God asks Christians to do, while the Gospel is what Christians receive from God. On the other hand, Barth believes that theology should focus on the incarnation of Jesus Christ as proclaimed in the Gospel. This article answered two research questions: First, what is the relationship between the approach presented by Luther and Barth? Second, how can these approaches contribute to the attempt to trans(form) theologia viatorum in the living church? This study was conducted by a literature study. The result of the study showed that to transform and form theologia viatorum of the living church, the ability to hold hand in hand (manus in manu) the duty to God (Law), as proposed by Luther, and receiving the good news (Gospel), as suggested by Barth should enable the church to serve the world better.

Abstract

Abstract. The argument of this research is that the church has a moral and ethical responsibility to conduct political education through discourse on political ethics in public spaces. This is based on historical facts that the Cristianity since the independence movement until now has had potential power and significant influence in politics in Indonesia. This research used the hermeneutic phenomenology method in the context of socio-political history. The result of the research showed that the church is quite proactive in responding to national and state issues in the Reformation Era, but it is still not optimal to conduct discourse on political ethics in public spaces. The political role of the church in general is still limited to carrying out liturgical ritual activities, praying together, and issuing formal shepherding calls at every election event.

Abstract

In this article, I discuss the importance of St. Thomas Aquinas’s infused virtue in living an ethical Christian life, a critical element of church formation. The research question in this article answered the importance of infused virtue in understanding the goodness of a person's moral life as a church member. The method used in this article is a literature study that focuses on the work of Thomas on acquired and infused virtue ethics. Thomas’s virtue ethics is demonstrated to be a complete set of ethics, that does not only focus on acquired ethics. Moral and intellectual virtues are not enough for human beings to achieve the proper purpose of their life by themselves. Therefore, human beings need the infusion of virtues as a part of God’s grace that will elevate their understanding of God’s universal moral order. There are three parts to this article, in the first part of the article, I present a critique of the belief that Christian ethics should rely only on habit as something that can be acquired through practice. In the second part of the article, I discuss Thomas’s virtue ethics by briefly introducing his concept of natural law and its relation to virtue. In the last part of this article, I provide a conclusion on why I think infused virtue matters.

Abstract

Abstract

Trauma due to communal conflict creates a lasting impact even after the conflict has ended. Trauma not only affects individuals who experience it directly, but also has an impact on the family and social environment, which in turn has an impact across generational boundaries. This study aims to explore and analyze the mechanisms of intergenerational trauma transmission in post-conflict families, where trauma can be transmitted both directly and indirectly through psychological, family, and social interactions. The approach used is qualitative with a case study design, involving parents who experience conflict and children who are not directly involved. Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods, and their validity was strengthened using triangulation of data sources. The results of the study indicate that the transmission of trauma in families occurs through two main aspects: parenting patterns and the influence of the social environment. Parenting patterns that are formed from traumatic experiences of parents after conflict, especially those that have not been handled properly, tend to be overprotective and full of strict instructions. The social environment becomes a place for children to confirm the trauma received from parenting patterns which then strengthen the transmission of this trauma. These two aspects are interrelated in forming patterns and processes of intergenerational trauma transmission.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology over time has an impact on the role of women in their ministry in the congregation and society, especially in utilizing digital platforms to spread spiritual content and positive messages to the congregation and society. This study examines the role of women as spiritual content creators in the GPIB ATK Ambarawa Congregation within the framework of Kate Ott's feminist ethics. Through in-depth interviews with female content creators and analysis of the content they produce, this study explores how women in GPIB ATK utilize digital platforms to spread spiritual content and how they apply the principles of digital ethics in these activities. The results of the study indicate that women in GPIB ATK have a significant role in spreading positive messages through digital platforms. However, this study also identifies challenges associated with the use of digital technology, such as the spread of invalid information, potential privacy violations, and the social impact of the content they produce. Based on Kate Ott's feminist ethics theory, this study concludes that efforts are needed to improve women's digital literacy so that they can use technology responsibly and ethically. Thus, good digital literacy allows women not only to be consumers of information, but can also be agents of positive change in strengthening spirituality and morality in the digital era.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to describe and analyze the role of teachers in educating Sunday school children at GKJ North Salatiga from an ethical-pedagogical perspective. This research uses a qualitative approach. Qualitative data was collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observation. The theory used in the analysis is based on ethical studies from Reinhold Niebuhr and pedagogical studies from Thomas Groome. The research results show that education for children is essential, and the church needs to participate in it. The efforts made by GKJ North Salatiga in educating Sunday school children include instilling Christian values or giving the example of Jesus. Jesus' example is also an example of ethical behavior offered by Niebuhr. The ethical values contained in the research are respecting others, giving appreciation, love, forgiveness, helping, sharing, caring, fairness, justice, and humility. In pedagogical studies, it was found that teachers not only taught the example of Jesus through theory, but it was also reflected in the lives of Sunday school teachers. Teachers also use various creative teaching methods and media in the learning process. Creative teaching supports children to understand God's word better. Teachers at GKJ North Salatiga also manage the Sunday school well and in a structured manner.
