The environmental care attitude of the Kampar indigenous people towards the prohibited forest in Kenagarian Rumbio, Riau Province is one of the sources of the values of character education that cares for the environment that can be internalized to students. These social studies learning resources are sourced from local cultures that can form knowledge, attitudes and actions that seek to prevent forest destruction and take various actions for environmental conservation. The focus of this research is to identify the values of the environmental care character of the Kampar indigenous community towards the prohibited forest of the Kampar customary community and integrate it into social studies learning. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods. The results showed that there were three things in the forest preservation of the prohibited communities of the Kampar custom society in Kenagarian Rumbio, namely; 1) view of the forest as part of the life of custom society; 2) the role of ninik mamak in customary communities in the form of rules and norms, prohibitions and myths, and then the role of nephews in the Pelopor Foundation, Rural Forestry Extension Center and Tourism Awareness Group or Pokdarwis; and 3) informal education system in building ecological awareness of prohibited forest to the younger generation. Abstract

Research article abstracts play a vital role in shaping initial impressions of scholarly work. This study investigates nuances in abstract writing across arts and humanities, social sciences, physics and astronomy, and chemistry. Using Bhatia's four-move and Hyland's five-move models, we analyze rhetorical move structures in 20 recent abstracts from top journals in each discipline. Verb tense preferences are examined through Tseng's approach, with a focus on the introduction move. Lexical density ratios are calculated following Halliday to assess complexity. Results reveal distinct move patterns between soft sciences (arts and humanities, social sciences) emphasizing logical flow, and hard sciences (physics and astronomy, chemistry) prioritizing conciseness. Verb tense analysis exposes tailored rhetorical strategies, with soft sciences exhibiting varied tenses and hard sciences consistently using present perfect tense to frame background. Lexical density is higher in soft science abstracts indicating more descriptive narratives, while hard science abstracts are more information-dense. These disciplinary nuances underscore the need for tailored guidelines and training in abstract writing. Findings contribute insights to enhance coherence, aligned with the conventions and epistemologies of diverse scientific communities.

Abstract

Social studies is still considered a teaching and learning approach that focuses on integrating social sciences into the educational curriculum. Social studies are developed as an integrated subject (integrative social studies) rather than a disciplinary education. For this reason, this article discusses constructing the scientific structure of social studies as a discipline through a critical perspective. This article is written through a qualitative approach with a literature study method. This article explains the idea of compiling the scientific structure of social studies to answer the anxiety that social studies still does not have a strong enough scientific structure to dare to assert itself as a discipline.

Abstract

This community engagement program aims to enhance the scientific competence of Social Studies Education students at Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat through a workshop on writing accredited scientific articles indexed by SINTA. The program was conducted in both offline and online formats on June 17, July 1, and July 8, 2025, employing a capacity-building approach based on experiential learning. This approach emphasizes active student participation in understanding, applying, and practicing the skills required for scientific writing. The workshop was designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of the fundamentals of academic writing and publication ethics, reference management techniques, strategies for publishing in SINTA-accredited journals, and hands-on practice in drafting scientific articles. Each session was facilitated through intensive mentoring by a qualified expert. The expected outcomes of this program include an improvement in students’ competence in writing scientific articles that meet SINTA accreditation standards and a broader understanding of the academic publication landscape. Moreover, this program serves as a platform to strengthen collaboration between study programs and higher education institutions in advancing the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
