Abstract

AbstractThis study examines the effectiveness of ProblemBased Learning (PBL) method in classroom guidance services to reduce bullying behavior at SMP Negeri 1 Jepon. The background of this research is the high number of verbal bullying cases among eighth-grade students. This research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest). The research sample consisted of 20 students who showed a high tendency of bullying behavior. Data were collected through bullying behavior questionnaires, observation, and interviews. The results of the analysis showed a significant decrease in the average bullying score after the PBL service was provided. This proves that the application of the PBL method in classroom guidance is effective in reducing bullying behavior. This study recommends the structured implementation of PBL-based classroom guidance services as an innovative alternative in bullying prevention at school. Keywords: Problem Based Learning, classroom guidance, bullying

Abstract

Background: Uncontrolled mobile phone use among adolescents can lead to behavioral problems and reduced learning quality by disrupting concentration, academic engagement, and social interaction. Therefore, structured guidance interventions are needed to strengthen students’ self-control in managing digital technology use at school. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of classical guidance using the jigsaw method on students’ self-control in mobile phone use. Method: A quantitative approach was employed, using a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The participants were ninth-grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Pemalang. Data were collected using a self-control scale regarding mobile phone use. Statistical analysis was conducted using an independent samples t-test to determine differences between the experimental and control groups. Result: The findings revealed a significant difference in self-control between students who received classical guidance using the jigsaw method and those who did not. The experimental group showed greater improvement in self-control after the intervention than the control group. Conclusion: Classical guidance implemented through the jigsaw method is practical in enhancing students’ self-control in mobile phone use. Contribution: This study enriches the field of guidance and counselling by extending the application of the jigsaw method as an innovative strategy to develop students’ self-control, particularly in addressing challenges related to digital technology use among adolescents.

Abstract

Needs assessment is a fundamental component of guidance and counseling services because it provides the basis for developing data-driven programs that are responsive to students’ actual needs. However, guidance and counseling (GC) teachers’ competence in conducting needs assessments may vary according to individual and professional characteristics, particularly technology utilization. This study aimed to analyze GC teachers’ competence in conducting needs assessments and examine differences in competence based on gender, years of professional experience, and technology utilization. A quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical survey design was employed. The participants consisted of 90 GC teachers selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent-samples t-tests, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings revealed that GC teachers’ needs assessment competence was generally at a moderate-to-good level (M = 47.11, SD = 17.04). The results further indicated that there were no statistically significant differences in needs assessment competence based on gender (p = .995) or years of professional experience (p = .857). In contrast, technology utilization showed a statistically significant relationship with needs assessment competence (F = 18.178, p < .001), with teachers demonstrating higher levels of technology utilization exhibiting substantially greater competence in conducting needs assessments. These findings suggest that technological competence plays a more important role in enhancing needs assessment competence than demographic characteristics. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy and technology-based assessment skills should be prioritized within professional development programs, counseling supervision, and educational quality improvement initiatives to support the implementation of effective data-driven guidance and counseling services in the digital era.

Abstract

This study analyzes self-disclosure as an important aspect of interpersonal communication between broken-hearted children and their parents, which plays a role in helping individuals express their thoughts, feelings, and personal experiences. However, not all clients are able to express themselves optimally, especially when influenced by unsupportive family relationships. Therefore, this study aims to describe clients' self-disclosure based on aspects of self-disclosure. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained from four students of Senior High School X through in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted using MAXQDA software based on the five aspects of self-disclosure: amount, valence, accuracy and honesty, intention, and intimacy. The results of this study indicate that the level of self-disclosure among clients varies and is influenced by the quality of interpersonal relationships with parents. Clients who have secure emotional relationships tend to show higher levels of self-disclosure, while those with a background of family conflict show lower levels of self-disclosure. Self-disclosure is mostly characterized by negative emotions, situational honesty, and a tendency to avoid sensitive topics. These findings emphasize the importance of a safe and empathetic communication environment in fostering optimal self-disclosure.
