Abstract

Background: Postpartum infection remains one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Limited maternal knowledge regarding infection prevention contributes to postpartum complications. Audio-visual education is considered an effective learning strategy because it simultaneously stimulates visual and auditory senses. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of audio-visual education on mothers' knowledge regarding postpartum infection prevention at Kediri District Hospital. Methods: A pre-experimental study using a One Group Pre-test Post-test design was conducted among 34 postpartum mothers. Knowledge was measured using questionnaires before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Match Pairs Test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Prior to the intervention, most respondents demonstrated moderate knowledge. Following audio-visual education, most respondents achieved good knowledge. Statistical analysis showed a significant improvement after the intervention (p=0.000). Audio-visual media enhanced mothers' understanding through integrated visual and auditory stimulation, improving learning retention and facilitating better comprehension of postpartum infection prevention. Conclusion: Audio-visual education significantly improves mothers' knowledge regarding postpartum infection prevention and can be implemented as an effective health education strategy in midwifery services.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) are common complaints caused by increased levels of hCG and estrogen hormones, which may lead to dehydration, nutritional disturbances, stress, and decreased quality of life. Acupressure at the PC6 and ST36 points is a non-pharmacological therapy that has the potential to reduce these symptoms. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PC6 and ST36 acupressure on the frequency of nausea and vomiting among first- and second-trimester pregnant women. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 30 pregnant women at Sukorame Public Health Center, Kediri City, and 28 samples were obtained using a consecutive sampling technique. The frequency of nausea and vomiting was measured using the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis and Nausea (PUQE) instrument and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant decrease in nausea and vomiting scores after the intervention, with an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of (0.000) < α (0.05). After the intervention, most respondents were in the mild category, totaling 19 respondents (67.9%). It can be concluded that acupressure at the PC6 and ST36 points was effective in reducing nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Sleep quality disorders are one of the complaints often experienced by pregnant women in the third trimester due to physiological changes, physical discomfort, and psychological changes that occur during pregnancy. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to tackle this problem is effleurage massage using lavender oil, which has a relaxation effect through touch stimulation and aromatherapy. This study aims to determine the effect of Effleurage Massage using lavender oil on the sleep quality of third-trimester pregnant women in the working area of Sukorame Health Center, Kediri City. Used a pre-experimental design a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. The study sample consisted of 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected using accidental sampling technique according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality before and after the intervention. Intervention in three sessions via home visits. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Before the intervention, most respondents had poor to very poor sleep quality after the intervention, 27 respondents (90%) reported an improvement to good sleep quality. The average PSQI score decreased from 9.87 to 6.33, and the statistical test results showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of effleurage massage using lavender oil on the sleep quality of pregnant women in their third trimester. Future research is recommended to employ a design with a control group, a larger sample size, and measurements of psychological and environmental factors to enhance the validity of the research findings.

Abstract

In the neonatal period, hypoglycemia is the most common metabolic disorder that carries a risk of long-term neurological impairment. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors associated with blood glucose levels in neonates at Aura Syifa Hospital, including maternal obesity, history of gestational diabetes mellitus, maternal age ≥35 years, and neonatal hypothermia. This study was an observational analytic study with a retrospective case-control design using 36 respondents (18 cases, 18 controls) through purposive sampling technique. Univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with Chi-Square and Fisher's Exact Test were applied. Maternal obesity was found in the majority of respondents at 58.3%, hypothermia was experienced by most neonates at 63.9%, and blood glucose distribution showed equal proportions of hypoglycemia and normal at 50% each. Based on the statistical test results, there was no significant relationship between maternal obesity (p = 0.310; OR = 2.000) and maternal age ≥35 years (p = 0.298; OR = 0.481) with neonatal blood glucose levels. There was a significant relationship between history of gestational diabetes mellitus (p = 0.001; OR = 21.250) and hypothermia (p = 0.000; OR = 4.600) with neonatal blood glucose levels. Mothers who experienced gestational diabetes mellitus during pregnancy is the most dominant factor associated with neonatal blood glucose levels, followed by hypothermia. It is expected that healthcare providers will optimize blood glucose screening in neonates born to at-risk mothers and consistently implement hypothermia prevention measures from the time of delivery
