Abstract

Background/aim: Dehydration due to inadequate water intake in children may disrupt brain functions. This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydration education with water provision on hydration status, cognitive functions and motor performance. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight children in primary full-day school (age 8 – 11 years) were recruited in this study. The intervention of hydration education was performed for two days, both for students and teachers. The water was provision for 12 days. Letter cancellation task (LCT), symbol digit modalities test (SDMT), and direct image different test (DIDT) were used to assess cognitive functions. Motor performance was evaluated using a finger tapping test (FTT). Hydration status was determined with urine specific gravity (USG) and urine color (UC). Before and after interventions, all parameters were evaluated.Results: Most students found dehydrated (>65%). The students had lower USG and UC after the intervention and it was correlated with each other (before; rs=0.45, P = 0.001 and after; rs=0.82, P = 0.001). All cognitive and motor functions were significantly higher after an intervention (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Hydration education to students and teachers combined with water provision at primary full-day school increases hydration status and enhances cognitive and fine motor skills.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition when a person's height is known to be shorter when compared to someone else's age. Stunting rate in Indonesia is high, straight line with poor nutrition. The purpose of this community service is to increase knowledge of stunting through health counseling methods and handle independently through cadre assistance. This method begins with brainstorming and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) followed by training, distribution of leaflets, and screening of video stunting to Posyandu cadres accompanied by nutrition assistance as much as 3x visits in the context of independent handling of stunting for toddlers. The results obtained that there is an increase in knowledge after brainstorming and playback of audiovisual media through counseling using these media using the Wilcoxon test with a p-value of 0.00. The conclusion is that the method of brainstorming and audiovisual media is an effective media as an alternative to educating cadres and being able to recognize and manage stunting independently.

Abstract

Pemberian makanan padat gizi menggunakan bahan pangan lokal yang tersedia di Kota Sorong mengandung padat energi dan zat gizi yang baik untuk pertumbuhan anak usia sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian makanan padat gizi terhadap perubahan berat badan anak usia sekolah Kota Sorong. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berupa pre eksperimen dengan rancangan one group pre and post design. Subjek penelitian adalah anak yang berusia 5-6 tahun dengan jumlah sampel anak 36 anak. Makanan padat gizi yang diberikan berupa makanan biasa yang terdiri atas karbohidrat, protein hewani, sayuran dan buah. Anak diberikan makanan padat gizi selama 3 minggu. Analisis yang digunakan adalah uji wilcoxon. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini berupa rata-rata sumbangan energi pada anak setiap kali makanan padat gizi per hari sebanyak 466 kkal. Rata-rata berat badan sebelum intervensi 17.66 kg dan setelah intervensi 19.06 kg. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat perubahan yang signifikan pada berat badan anak sekolah setelah dilakukan intervensi pemberian makanan padat gizi 1 porsi (sumber karbohidrat, lauk hewani, lauk nabati, sayuran dan buah) selama 3 minggu (nilai p<0.002). Pemberian makanan padat gizi kepada anak sekolah senantiasa dibiasakan oleh orang tua kepada anaknya karena dapat menyumbang zat gizi yang dibutuhkan oleh anak pada masa pertumbuhan dan perkembangan.

Abstract

A mother’s level of knowledge about adequate nutrition dramatically influences the behavior of good food choices so that mothers can choose nutritious foods and arrange a balanced menu according to their body’s needs during pregnancy. It will have significant effect on their baby’s birth weight. This study aims to describe the mothers’ knowledge about nutrients and their nutritional intake level during pregnancy. The descriptive study was conducted on 34 respondents who had their pregnancy checked at Passo Public Health Center. The result showed that mostly the knowledge of pregnant women about nutrients was in moderate category (41,17%). Meanwhile their nutritional intake level was mostly in less category (energy 52,94%, protein 55,88% and iron 44,12%). It can be concluded that the knowledge about nutrients and the nutritional intake of pregnant women in Passo Public Health Center need to be improved to ensure mother and child health in the fututre.

Abstract

Penelitian Risbinakes (2017) di SMU/MA di Kecamatan Salahutu menunjukan bahwa asupan zat gizi makro pada siswa/siswi rata-rata kurang dari 30% dan status gizi kurus (12,3%) dan dan status gizi pendek (28,7%). Penyebabnya antara lain kurangnya pengetahuan tentang gizi seimbang dan asupan gizi makro yang masih rendah. Salah satu cara untuk meningkatan status gizi adalah melalui pendidikan gizi yaitu peningkatan pengetahuan yang dilaksanakan dengan cara penyuluhan gizi dan pembagian media belajar (leaflet). Menurut WHO, pendidikan gizi bertujuan untuk mendorong terjadinya perubahan perilaku positif yang berhubungan dengan makanan dan gizi. Salah satu bentuk upaya peningkatan pengetahuan gizi seimbang pada remaja dilakukan dengan cara memberikan penyuluhan dan pembagian media belajar yaitu leaflet pada siswa/siswi di SMU Negeri 1 salahutu. Hasil Penyuluhan dan pembagian leaflet tentang gizi seimbang pada remaja berjalan dengan baik dan pesan yang disampaikan dapat diterima oleh siswa/siswi. Harapan kedepan hasil penyuluhan dapat diterapkan oleh siswa/siswi dalam kehidupan di sekolah dan di lingkungan tempat tinggal.

Abstract

Asupan makanan yang bergizi seimbang begitu penting untuk menjamin tumbuh kembang anak yang sehat dan aktif. Peran dan dukungan orang terdekat mempengaruhi kebiasaan makan anak. Apabila kebiasaan makan baik, dengan menerapkan makanan sehat dan bergizi seimbang sejak dini, maka kebiasaan tersebut akan berpengaruh hingga tumbuh dewasa nanti. MIT As-Salam Ambon merupakan sekolah yang menerapkan fullday school, dan menyediakan katering makan siang untuk seluruh siswanya. Berdasarkan pengamatan terhadap sisa makanan, masih ditemukan banyak sisa sayuran pada rantang makanan. Dan berdasarkan wawancara kepada beberapa siswa, mereka mengatakan tidak suka mengkonsumsi sayur, baik yang disediakan di sekolah maupun di rumah. Hal ini ditunjang juga dengan kurangnya pengetahuan tentang manfaat konsumsi sayur dan buah, terutama siswa kelas 1. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode ceramah, memberikan poster dan kudapan yang bisa dinikmati oleh siswa sebagai contoh bentuk aplikasi nyata dalam pola menu makan sehari-hari. Dampak pemberian penyuluhan dievaluasi dengan pemberian kuisoner terhadap anak sekolah yang dilakukan pada saat sebelum pemberian penyuluhan dan setelah dilakukan penyuluhan. Peserta penyuluhan adalah siswa kelas 1 dan 2 didampingi para guru. Hasil kegiatan berjalan cukup baik ditandai dengan peserta penyuluhan yang sangat antusias dalam mengikuti jalannya kegiatan. Beberapa pertanyaan juga diajukan sesuai dengan tema yang disampaikan dengan diselingi kuis dan hadiah. Peranan poster sebagai media penyuluhan sangat mendukung dalam menyampaikan pesan kesehatan ke masyarakat. Poster dibuat semenarik mungkin sehingga bisa membangkitkan keingintahuan terhadap pesan kesehatan terkini yang disampaikan

Abstract

The results of the 2015 Health Workforce Development Research (Risbinakes) in the work area of the Tawiri Community Health Center found 239 samples of 76 baduta were stunted (short nutrition) and 44 of them were born to mothers who suffered from chronic energy deficiency during pregnancy. Based on the results of statistical tests, there is a significant relationship between pregnant women who suffer from KEK and their babies that will result in stunting. The role of kader in the implementation of the Posyandu in the working area of the Tawiri Health Center is quite good in attendance, participation and skills. Cadre skills are still lacking, especially in measuring of the length/height of children under five. Besides, during the research, especially in screening for the incidence of stunting, it was seen that the measurement of nutritional status did not meet the anthropometric requirements because the damaged microtoice only used a measuring tape.This can result in inaccurate measurement results so that the previous stunting data is quite large. The purpose of this Community Service is to improve the ability to assess nutritional status through refreshing kader posyandu in the work area of the Tawiri Community Health Center.The implementation of the activity consisted of 2 activity stages, namely counselling on monitoring nutritional status to prevent stunting in children using posters and refreshing kader posyandu. This activity is also to reduce errors that arise such as errors in equipment (not yet calibrated), errors in observers (measurement errors, reading, recording). The results of the counselling showed an increase in participant knowledge and an increase in the ability of kader posyandu in measuring, reading, and recording measurement results using anthropometric tools.

Abstract

School children are strategic targets in providing information, education and instilling a healthy lifestyle from an early age because elementary school-aged children are easy to accept input and change. Another thing to consider is that children experience a period of rapid growth. This period would run well if it was supported by good nutrition, fulfilled and balanced. Education and information on balanced nutrition need to be conveyed to increase knowledge of balanced nutrition and equip children in their age of growth and development. The purpose of the activity is to increase school children's knowledge about the importance of the benefits of breakfast for school children. This community service is carried out by the method of counselling/lectures using slide presentation media. The activity continued with the distribution of leaflets to all participants and the installation of posters in schools. The measuring knowledge before counselling and distributing leaflets obtained an average value of 64, with the lowest score being 14 and the highest being 90. In comparison, the average score for knowledge value after counselling and distributing leaflets was 70, with the lowest score being 28 and the highest 100. Extension activities and distribution of leaflets about the importance of breakfast can be carried out at SDN 2 Tial according to the planned time with a target number of 115 people. There was an increase in students' knowledge about the importance of breakfast after being given counselling, distributing leaflets, and installing posters.

Abstract

The purpose of this community service is to provide education and training to mothers to detect early stunting in Tulehu Country. The Implementation Method consists of Preparation, Education and Training, Assistance in Posyandu activities, and Activity Monitoring. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in mothers' knowledge after education and training. After education and training conducted direct monitoring and evaluation at the posyandu, the results showed increased mothers' knowledge in measuring and weighing toddlers' weight using anthropometry. In conclusion, there is an increase in the ability of mothers to detect stunting.

Abstract

Nutritional status is the state of the body as a result of food consumption and the use of nutrients. Distinguished between good, less and more nutritional status. initial survey on December 27, 2021 at Paud Hasnatul Hassanah Sungai Siput Village, Siak Kecil District, Bengkalis Regency in 2018. The number of students consists of 50 students. Of the 10 students studied who were well-nourished, 3 students were malnourished, 4 students were undernourished and 3 students were overnourished. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between maternal and socioeconomic knowledge on nutritional status in early childhood at Paud Hasnatul Hassanah Sungai Siput Village, Siak Kecil District, Bengkalis Regency. This study uses a type of quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The instrument in this study used a questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate data analysis using chi Square test. The results of the study were the majority of mothers had sufficient knowledge 40.0% and mothers with low socioeconomic 27.3%. There is a significant relationship between knowledge (P value = 0.000), socioeconomics (P value = 0.000) on the nutritional status of early childhood children at Paud Hasnatul Hassanah Sungai Siput Village, Siak Kecil District, Bengkalis Regency. It is recommended for mothers to increase knowledge by always attending counseling about health, especially nutritional status in children, as well as for health workers to further improve counseling for families, health counseling counseling, and increasing the number of children in the community.Keywords: Knowledge Level, Socioeconomics, Nutritional Status
