Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify soil contamination by leachate from a landfill (TPA) using geoelectric method. Leachate is the liquid waste arising from the introduction of external water into the garbage heap, dissolve, and rinse the dissolved materials, including organic materials are also the result of biological decomposition process. Leachate contained heavy metals and many other organic pollutants that can contaminate soil and groundwater. Geoelectric method is one of the geophysical methods that exploit the variation of resistivity based on the measurement of potential differences caused by electrical currents injected into the earth. The study began by examining the landfill soil type, then check its resistivity with level of leachate varied, ranging 0-100%, in the laboratory. Furthermore, resistivity measurements in the field to determine the spread of leachate. In addition, examination of pollutant content in the leachate was done. The result showed the soil type of landfill was high plasticity clay (CH). Resistivity value of soil with varies level of leachate was 13.5 to 30 Ωm. On the field, it found value of resistivity soil ranged from 13.5 to 30 Ωm has spread along the 37 m to the east with an average depth of 0 to 1.60 m and 29 m to the south with an average depth of 0 to 1.85 m.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the salinity of shallow well water so as to get an overview of the distribution of groundwater salinity at the research location. The research location is in the Selatpanjang City area, precisely in the Tebing Tinggi District and part of the Tebing Tinggi Barat District, Meranti Islands Regency. The research site is surrounded by the sea and rivers. Many people in the research location live in coastal areas. In coastal areas or near bodies of water, tidal water can enter up to the ground level and even onto roads. This situation makes people think that their groundwater is polluted due to tidal water entering the mainland. This research can provide information to the government and the community at the research site regarding the distribution of groundwater salinity that has occurred. The data analysis used is the interpolation method by creating a mapping using the ArcGIS application. Data analysis can be done after getting the data from the salinity measurement in the field. The water quality test parameters reviewed in this study were the salinity value of shallow wells water measured with a refractometer and marked the coordinates of the sample using the Avenza Maps application. In this study, 57 shallow wells were taken randomly. The results of field measurements show that based on salt concentration, shallow well water is classified as dubious and dangerous.

Abstract

Proses transformasi hujan menjadi debit dapat ditiru dan disederhanakan dalam bentuk model yang lazim disebut model hujan debit. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah mengaplikasikan model guna mengatasi keterbatasan akan data debit untuk kebutuhan prediksi akan ketersediaan air di suatu Daerah Aliran Sungai (DAS). Metode pendekatan yang digunakan untuk memprediksi kebutuhan ketersediaan air suatu DAS adalah menggunakan model IHACRES yang dikembangkan di Inggris berdasarkan data curah hujan pada stasiun hujan Tanjung Pati, Sijunjung dan Sentajo periode 1995-2004 serta data klimatologi pada stasiun klimatologi Sentajo periode 1995-2004. Hasil utama penelitian membuktikan bahwa Model IHACRES yang diterapkan di stasiun duga air Lubuk Ambacang dapat dikatakan masih kurang handal karena nilai R2 yang dihasilkan pada tahap simulasi berkisar antara 0,245 – 0,485. Namun dalam hal penggunaannya di lapangan masih dapat diaplikasikan selama pemodelan hujan debit yang memberikan hasil yang lebih baik belum ditemukan.

Abstract

Kekuatan beton banyak dipengaruhi oleh sifat-sifat bahan pembentuknya seperti air, semen dan agregat. Di samping itusecara khusus beton juga dipengaruhi kondisi lingkungan. Struktur beton yang bersentuhan dengan air laut, air gambut,dan air kelapa berpotensi menimbulkan kerusakan. Untuk pengaruh air kelapa terjadi pada bangunan gedung pasarterutama di blok gedung tempat penjualan kelapa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruhserangan air laut, air gambut dan air kelapa terhadap kuat tekan, rembesan (kekedapan beton), porositas dan absorpsibeton normal. Mutu beton pada penelitian ini yaitu 22,5 MPa. Perendaman dilakukan untuk mempengaruhi betondengan 3 jenis air yaitu air laut, air kelapa, air gambut dan untuk pembanding beton juga direndam dengan air biasa.Perendaman dilakukan pada umur 28, 90 dan 150 hari. Kuat tekan tertinggi terjadi pada perendaman dengan air biasadimana hasilnya 28.2, 37, 40.5 MPa pada umur 28, 90, 150 hari secara berurutan. Sebaliknya, kuat tekan terendahterjadi pada perendaman dengan air kelapa. Nilai absorpsi, porositas dan rembesan berkorelasi dengan tren kuat tekandimana nilai terendah dari absorpsi, porositas dan permeabilitas terjadi pada kuat tekan tertinggi.Kata kunci: beton, durabilitas, absorpsi, porositas, rembesan.

Abstract

Kegiatan rumah sakit tidak terlepas dari masalah limbah,baik yang bersifat medis maupun non medis. Salah satu carapengolahan limbah medis adalah dengan menggunakan pembakaran suhu tinggi yang dilakukan dalam insinerator.Pembakaran suhu tinggi sangat efektif mengurangi volume limbah dan tingkat bahaya limbah medis. Meskipundemikian insinerator tetap menghasilkan abu sisa pembakaran yang jumlahnya makin lama makin meningkat sehinggaberpotensi menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan. Oleh karena itu diperlukan solusi untuk memanfaatkan abu hasilpembakaran insinerator tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pemakaian abu insinerator terhadapkuat tekan, porositas, absorpsi, dan rembesan beton. Penelitian dilakukan dengan memanfaatkan abu insinerator rumahsakit untuk mensubtitusi sebagian pasir yang digunakan dalam pembuatan beton. Persentase abu yang digunakan 0%,5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, dan 25% dari berat pasir. Benda uji berbentuk silinder dengan diameter 15 cm dan tinggi 30 cmdigunakan untuk pengujian kuat tekan, absorpsi, dan porositas dibuat sebanyak 60 buah. Untuk pengujian rembesandigunakan sampel berbentuk kubus dengan ukuran 15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm sebanyak 18 buah. Hasil pengujian kuattekan beton setelah perawatan 28 hari menunjukkan terjadi penurunan seiring dengan meningkatnya persentase abuinsinerator yang digunakan. Nilai kuat tekan tertinggi didapatkan pada pemakaian abu insinerator sebanyak 5% yaitu21,4 MPa. Pada pemakaian abu insinerator dengan persentase 10-25%, kuat tekan yang didapatkan berkisar 6,4-14,3MPa. Penurunan kuat tekan disebabkan pemakaian abu insinerator dapat meningkatkan absorpsi, porositas danrembesan beton, selain itu abu insinerator mempunyai sifat menyerap air yang cukup tinggi.Kata kunci: absorpsi, abu insinerator, beton, kuat tekan,porositas, rembesan.

Abstract

Oil Palm Frond (OPF) extract is the largest biomass in the palm oil industry. Fresh oil palm frond extract can be readily obtained by just pressing the fresh OPF. Oil palm frond extract contains of high sugar concentrations such as glucose, making it a potential medium for bioethanol fermentation. This research was conducted by analyzing the characteristics of OPF through glucose, pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and volatile suspended solid (VSS) as well as its potensial in producing bioethanol. The glucose content in the OPF extract was 37 g/L, total and soluble COD in OPF 56,000 mg / L and 48,000 mg / L, VSS amounting to 2,133 mg / L and pH 5. This result indicates that OPF extract can be used as a renewable feedstock for bioethanol production.Keywords: Oil Palm Frond (OPF) extract, Bieothanol fermentation

Abstract

Basicly peat water is belong to surface water which is found in the wet land, like Riau Province. The characteristic of peat water are high color intensites (yellow or brown red), high organic content and low pH values about 2-5. For use as water source for domestic purposes, it was a process to change peat water toward clean water. One of the process was adsorption way. In this research is required by kaolin based geopolymers as adsorbent.The variable that used in this research is the mass of the adsorbent (1; 1,5; 2; and 2,5 gram, and stirring (time between 30,60 and 90 seconds) then tested of organic content. The best result from this research is that the adsorbent mass of 1 gram and the stirring time of 30s while adsorbent can increase from 51,192 mg/l to 0,63 mg/l on organics content. The results of this research indicated that the peat water treatment in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of the Health No. 416 Year 1990 and could be use kaolin based geopolymer as an alternative to peat water treatment .Keyword : Kaolin, Geopolymer, Adsorption, Peat Water

Abstract

Zeolites are crystalline aluminosilicate minerals with a three-dimensional open structure containing pores that can occupied by water and by alkali and alkaline earth cations. Zeolite can be used as an adsorbent in water treatment, one of which is as an adsorbent in peat water treatment. The adsorption process uses absorbents to absorb Fe in peat water. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of mass ratio of zeolite with variation of mass 1; 1,.5; 2; 2,5; 3; 3,5 and 4 gr. The highest removal efficiency 96,33 % was reached by the zeolite with 2,5 gr of mass. Keywords: Zeolite, Adsorbent, Fe, Peat water

Abstract

Palm Oil Fly Ash (POFA) is one of the solid wastes from the combustion of shells and palm fiber in the boiler. It is potential as an adsorbent because of its high silica content. Adsorption is one method that has the potential to remove color and organic matter substances in peat water. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of the ratio raw materials to solvents to the production of silica extracted from POFA and to determine the efficiency removal of Fe in peat water. The results of this study show the colors, organic substances and Fe in 1830 Pt/Co, 437,8 mg/l, and 0,07 mg/l.
