Abstract

The supply of clean water in Riau Province can only reach urban areas, thus encouraging some people in rural areas to use peat water to meet their needs. Peat water does not meet the specified clean water quality standards because it has the characteristics of a brownish red color, low acidity and high organic matter content. One of the ways to treat peat water into clean water is by using a ceramic membrane filtration process. Therefore, this article will present a brief review of the potential of ceramic membranes to treat peat water into clean water. Keywords: peat water, ceramic membrane, filtration

Abstract

In all activities, human will produce a residual in a form of solid called solid waste. Kampus Bina Widya is a one of university in Pekanbaru with all of its activities is not hampered from solid waste productiom and problems coming from it, one of which can be seen on the amounts of solid waste in LPS (Land Disposal meantime) located behind of a Stadion Mini. This study aims to determine the waste generation and composition at Kampus Bina Widya and planned waste management system that includes lug, collection, transportation and the planned dump site (TPST) in Kampus Bina Widya, so the landfill activity on campus no longer exists. This study begins with the generation and waste composition studies conducted in 4 faculty, 3 offices, roads, public housing, hospitals and mosques. The study results showed the composition and in 2014 the daily waste generation of 9.448 l/day with composition is inorganic waste by 50,55% % and organic waste by 49,45%. Waste management planning in Campus Bina Widya include disaggregated lug to lug needs a capacity of 10 l bin for organic waste as much as 325 units and as many as 514 units of inorganic waste, bin capacity of 30 l to 108 units as much organic waste and inorganic waste as much as 171 units, bin capacity 60 l for organic waste as much as 62 units and 88 units of inorganic waste. Collection system in the form of segregated polling stations with a capacity of 4 m3 tub. A transport fleet capacity of 4 m3 pick up 2 units. The area of land needs TPSTs in Bina Widya Campus is an area of 635.33 m².Keywords: generation and waste composition, waste management systems, TPST

Abstract

Microplastics are plastic sinks measuring <5 mm. Process analysis along on the sediment carried through several stages, namely drying, filtering, sorting visually, the separation of the density (flotation), analysis using a microscope. The most dominate type of microplastic is fragment with a percentage of 49.58%, then film about 27,73%, and fiber about 22,69%. Microplastics in the sediments of the Air Hitam River are thought to come from household waste, disposable plastics waste (plastic bags, plastic bottles, food and beverage packaging), and waste from the tofu industry. Keywords : Microplastics, Abundance, Sediment, Air Hitam River

Abstract

Increased motor vehicle activity produces exhaust emissions that cause air pollution, reducing air quality. This research is located at Pattimura and WR.Supratman street as one of collector and local street in Pekanbaru. The purpose of this research is to figure out the amount of vehicle at Pattimura and WR. Supratman street Pekanbaru with recording traffic activities method. The biggest traffic congestion is on Pattimura street which was on monday morning which is had 3944 units. Keywords : Carbon Monoxide Emissions, Vehicle Amount, Speed Of Vehicle

Abstract

The existence of laundry has a positive impact on the community but actually has a negative impact on the environment. Chemical compounds contained in laundry water such as surfactants, can trigger eutrophication in water bodies. If this is allowed continuously will cause water pollution problems. Floating Treatment Wetland (FTW) comes as an option that can be used to decompose water pollutants by utilizing macrophyte plants. This research aims to describe the application of FTW as one of the potential methods for laundry wastewater treatment because it is minimally costly, environmentally friendly, and sustainable. Keywords : Laundry wastewater, FTW, water pollution.

Abstract

Palm Oil Fly Ash (POFA) is one of the solid wastes produced in the burning of shells and palm fibers in the boiler furnace at a palm oil mill. POFA has a high silica content so that it can be used as a basis for making zeolites. Zeolite can be used as an adsorbent in water treatment, one of which is as an adsorbent in peat water treatment. The adsorption process uses absorbents to absorb metals and other impurities. Keywords: POFA, Zeolite, Adsorbent, Peat water

Abstract

This research was conducted to investigate the characteristics of silica extracted from Palm Oil Fly Ash.. The obtained silica involves the extraction process using an alkaline solution and an acid solution. It was found that the highest yield was obtained from extraction using a solid/liquid ratio of 1:12 with extraction time of 120 minutes. Silica characterization using XRF shows the element or compound contained in the sample.. Kata kunci : fly ash, silica, extraction, solid/liquid ratio, stirring time

Abstract

Agricultural waste is very likely to be used as activated carbon. This is because the waste is very much and wasted. The impact of the large amount of agricultural waste produced has the potential to pollute the environment. One of the efforts made to utilize waste and increase its economic value is to process it into an active circuit which is then applied as an adsorbent. Therefore, this article will present a brief review of activated carbon from natural materials for the potential of metal (Fe). Keywords : active carbon, adsorption, ion Fe consentration

Abstract

The rapid growth of  the Indonesian  population  will  produce  more and more wastewater. Throwing domestic wastewater directly without treatment had caused the water pollution. One of simple, easy, low cost in maintenance and operation technology to decrease the pollutant in wastewater is constructed wetland. This research is aimed to know the efficiency and the best of detention time Subsurface Flow Wetland 2 levels with peat soil media and plant of Alisma plantago in treatment of domestic wastewater. The quality parameters of water that  was tested  are  pH, COD, and TSS.  Statistic calculation that was used in this research is Anova (Analysis of variance) of one way. The best efficiency for pH 31.7%, COD 82.1%  and TSS 90.3% in variance 4 with time of detention 4 days in reactor 1 and 1 day  in reactor 2. The  results showed  that the constructed wetland  2 levels  using  peat  soil media  and  plant of Alisma plantago  can  improve the quality of wastewater. Keywords: Wastewater, constructed wetland, alisma plantago.
