Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the difficulties and factors of students when using Netflix, especially in listening learning skills. By using the qualitative method, data collection is done by means of questionnaires and interviews. As many as 30 students who use Netflix were selected to be participants from all 11th grade of science and social studies majors. Limited vocabulary, quality of recorded material, accent, speaking speed, and physical factors are the main listening learning problems faced by students at SMAN 9 Bandar Lampung. The services offered by the Netflix platform are of the best quality compared to other platforms, even though the price given is not suitable for students, but this is not a big problem for them. For them, the biggest difficulty is when they understand the material presented, there is something they don't understand and there is no teacher to explain it.

Abstract

Makanan dalam kegiatan wisata pada awalnya hanya dianggap sebagai salah satu pelengkap saja. Gambaran dari budaya dan identitas suatu daerah juga dapat dilihat dari makanan khas yang terdapat pada suatu daerah tersebut, seiring dengan berjalannya waktu kini wisata kuliner menjadi bagian dari kegiatan wisata yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Permasalahan yang terjadi dalam penelitian ini yaitu apakah brand image dan product quality mempunyai pengaruh terhadap keputusan pembelian pada destinasi wisata belanja  oleh-oleh di Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menguji pengaruh brand image dan product quality terhadap keputusan pembelian pada destinasi wisata belanja oleh-oleh di Bandar Lampung. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap Toko Manisan Yen Yen, Toko Aneka sari Rasa dan Toko Askha Jaya di Bandar Lampung. Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini yaitu kontribusi variabel brand image dan product quality berperan dalam mempengaruhi Keputusan Pembelian pada destinasi wisata belanja oleh-oleh di Bandar Lampung.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah membangun Sistem Pendukung Keputusan untuk memilih pegawai terbaik di kantor Rupbasan Kelas I Bandar Lampung. Rupbasan Kelas I Bandar Lampung yang berlokasi di Jalan Pemasyarakatan Way Hui Sukarame Bandar Lampung merupakan sebuah instansi yang berada dibawah naungan Kementerian Hukum dan HAM (Kemenkumham) yang bertugas menyimpan barang sitaan dari pihak tertentu untuk keperluan proses penyidikan atau peradilan. Rupbasan Kelas I Bandar Lampung memiliki 32 pegawai termasuk pimpinan Rupbasan. Permasalahan yang terjadi adalah belum adanya sistem yang menentukan pegawai yang memiliki kinerja terbaik sehingga Pimpinan Rupbasan masih kesulitan dalam menentukan pegawai mana yang terbaik. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, maka peneliti akan merancang sebuah aplikasi Sistem Pendukung Keputusan Pemilihan Pegawai Terbaik di Rupbasan Kelas I Bandar Lampung dengan menggunakan Metode Simple Additive Weighting. Dengan adanya aplikasi sistem pendukung keputusan ini dapat memudahkan pimpinan Rupbasan dalam menentukan pegawai terbaik berdasarkan kriteria yang ada. Hasil penelitian ini didapat bahwa dengan menggunakan Metode Simple Additive Weighting dapat menentukan pegawai terbaik sesuai dengan kriteria.

Abstract

This study aims to design a strategy to increase the popularity of Indonesian speakers who are proficient and tested at the Lampung Provincial Language Office. The study used a qualitative method and a descriptive approach and analytical testing using SWOT analysis. The Lampung Provincial Language Office experienced problems in achieving the implementation of activities to increase the popularity of proficient and tested Indonesian speakers in the community. The achievement of the activities that were not achieved could not meet the target resulting in an increase in the target in the following year. Therefore, in 2022 the target number of UKBI testers will increase by 38.49%. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the failure to achieve the target is influenced by the location of the language office in Lampung Province, the revision of the Indonesian language carried out and the highest scores are at the level of service quality and digitization of the Lampung provincial Language office. Then suggestions were obtained, namely, there was a need to change correctional strategies in increasing the popularity of Indonesian speakers who were proficient and tested with several efforts, namely making written regulations and sanctions such as laws so that speakers of the language had to obey and carry out activities to increase and popularity. Therefore, the implementation of the strategy to increase the popularity of proficient and tested Indonesian speakers can be carried out and achieve the predetermined targets.

Abstract

This study's overarching goal is to dissect and contrast the organizational framework of persuasive compositions generated by Indonesian and Korean (South Korean) pupils who are acquiring English as a secondary language, utilizing the Toulmin model as a theoretical framework for argument assessment. The research sample consisted of five participants from Indonesia, five participants from Korea, five female participants from Indonesia, and five female participants from Korea. Typically, individuals originate from diverse educational and vocational contexts. The articles generated by the authors served as the focal point of an analysis that employed elements of the Toulmin framework. The research's findings imply that there is no appreciable difference between men's and women's levels of reasoning in the two countries. It was evident that a discernible distinction among the participants was the absence of counterargument sections in certain individuals. This study holds significant importance in terms of examining the impact of cultural factors inherent in each nation and its language on the principles of argumentative writing. The results obtained from the investigation conducted in this research. can be employed to improve pedagogical strategies and facilitate the development of writing curricula that are culturally appropriate. It is anticipated that future investigations will facilitate the examination of additional linguistic and cultural attributes, as well as the broadening of the research's purview to encompass a more heterogeneous cohort hailing from a greater array of nations, as well as persons with differing levels of scholarly attainment.

Abstract

This study aims at exploring the application of presupposition and conversational implicature in communication within comic strips from pragmatics field of study as proposed by Yule, (2006). The research design of this study is a qualitative design. The data were utterances and sentences in "The Diary of a Wimpy Kid" comic strip. This study reveals that there were four types of presuppositions implemented by the characters in “The Diary of A Wimpy Kid” comic, namely counter-factual presupposition, existential presupposition, factive presupposition, and lexical presupposition. Additionally, the research revealed that the characters in the comic employ two distinct forms of conversational implicatures: generalized conversational implicatures and particularized conversational implicatures.

Abstract

This research focused on the analysis of the translingual practices of Indonesian teenage Instagram Users based on Muysken’s theory. This research applied the descriptive-qualitative method. The data for this research were the caption posts produced by Indonesian teenagers on Instagram. The sample was taken from Indonesian teenagers’ Instagram users. The data was taken from social media sites such as Instagram. The research also used interviews to learn the reasons why the students produced translingual. The result of this research showed that there were three types of transliteration produced by teenagers. Insertion (noun, verb, preposition, and idiom) and Alternation (phrase and clause), congruent lexicalization based on Muysken’s theory There were some reasons why the students produced code mixing based on Bhatia and Ritchie's theory: participant roles and relationships, situational factors, message-intrinsic factors, language attitude, dominance, and security. The other reasons are to practice their English, to show the group identity, to make it simple and familiar, to show the trend, and to show their personal habits.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi dinamika strategi kesantunan dalam kelas Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris (ELL), khususnya berfokus pada interaksi guru-siswa di SMA Negeri 9 Bandar Lampung. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini menyelidiki bagaimana faktor sosial dan budaya memengaruhi pemilihan strategi kesantunan di antara siswa dari latar belakang etnis yang berbeda, termasuk Jawa, Lampung, Minang, dan Palembang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi kelas dan wawancara dengan siswa dari berbagai etnis. Analisis tematik diterapkan untuk mengidentifikasi tema dan pola yang berulang dalam data. Temuan tersebut mengungkapkan penggunaan strategi kesantunan yang beragam—kesantunan positif, kesopanan negatif, dan terang-terangan—masing-masing memiliki fungsi berbeda dalam komunikasi kelas. Kesantunan positif menumbuhkan hubungan yang harmonis, terang-terangan meminimalkan kesalahpahaman dan menyampaikan urgensi, sementara kesopanan negatif mengurangi beban dalam situasi sensitif. Penelitian ini juga menyoroti pemahaman dan penerapan strategi ini yang terus berkembang, yang dibentuk oleh dinamika kekuatan sosial, jarak sosial, dan norma budaya. Penelitian ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya konteks budaya dalam pemilihan strategi kesopanan dan berkontribusi pada pemahaman yang lebih luas tentang komunikasi dalam lingkungan pendidikan.

Abstract

Many studies have shown that translanguaging promotes inclusive and dynamic learning environments. However, little is known about multimodal techniques to improve student engagement and satisfaction. The present study aims to examine the impact of these combined strategies on student understanding, motivation, and identity construction in language acquisition. The study involved twenty students in the second semester of the English Language Education Department at a university in Bekasi, West Java, Indonesia. The data were garnered through a quantitative method using a questionnaire and a qualitative method using in-depth interviews. Out of the total number of participants, five students were selected for in-depth interviews to explore rich data on students' emotional, motivational, cognitive, and expressive responses to translanguaging. The data obtained from the questionnaire were analyzed statistically while the data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results suggest that adding translanguaging and multimodal strategies to the learning environment promotes a more engaging and inclusive atmosphere, thereby enhancing student satisfaction and language proficiency. Conversely, complications were identified for students with diminished proficiency requiring further assistance. The research emphasizes the potential of translanguaging to enhance linguistic competence, student confidence, and motivation, indicating that it is a valuable pedagogical tool in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

Since its emergence, TikTok has expanded as a social media platform by facilitating the spread of educational content, particularly English language learning, which has become increasingly attractive to students in Indonesia. This study explores students' perceptions of TikTok's effectiveness in enhancing English proficiency. By focusing on emotional experiences and practical usage, it fills a gap in the literature and provides a deeper understanding of TikTok’s educational impact. A qualitative approach involving 70 social media-active students was employed. Data were gathered through questionnaires and interviews, assessing social media use and perceived platform effectiveness. Results showed a strong preference for TikTok as a supplementary English learning tool due to its accessibility and engaging content. However, issues like internet connectivity and privacy concerns were noted. In conclusion, TikTok has potential as a resource for language practice and skill improvement, suggesting the need to integrate social media into educational strategies for more interactive learning environments.
