Abstract

Education has undergone a profound transformation, transitioning significantly from traditional face-to-face instructional approaches to a predominant reliance on online learning methodologies. This sudden change leaves questions on how to provide an affective and satisfying online leaning for students. As prior studies revealed, many factors affect the success of implementing online learning, specifically for higher education students. As a response, this quantitative study was intended to investigate the interplay of factors affecting online learning experience in higher education namely anxiety, motivation for learning, self-directed learning, online learning attitude, and computer-internet self-efficacy. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) included 20 items of online survey distributed to undergraduate students (n=329) from several faculties at one Indonesian university to explore this issue. This study used the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) application to explore the interplay among six constructs. The results showed that all six constructs namely anxiety, motivation for learning, self-directed learning, online learning attitude, computer-internet self-efficacy, and online learning experience were positively associated. It meant that those factors were statistically proven to affect students’ online learning experiences. Educators could use these results as a consideration in implementing online learning more effectively. Further implications of pedagogical practice and further research are discussed.

Abstract

In today's academic landscape, enhancing the academic writing proficiency of undergraduate students studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL), particularly in the context of thesis writing, is a paramount concern. This research aims to shed light on the influence of Academic Reading (AR) and Research Competence (RC) on Academic Writing (AW) through a comprehensive analysis employing a multi-regression approach. To achieve this goal, the researcher was conducted a rigorous investigation involving 162 students enrolled in English Literature and English Education departments. The researcher was distributed a structured online questionnaire to gather relevant data, which the researcher subsequently analyzed using SmartPLS 4. The analysis result unveiled a substantial statistical relationship between AR, RC, and AW, with an impressive R-square value of 0.580. This finding underscores the pivotal role played by AR and RC in explaining approximately 58% of the variance in AW. This study represents a critical step forward in comprehending the intricate interplay between AR, RC, and AW. It offers valuable insights into the substantial connections between academic reading, research competence, and academic writing. Importantly, this research provides guidance for educational efforts aimed at enhancing the academic writing capabilities of EFL undergraduates, with a specific focus on the realm of thesis writing.

Abstract

The global business landscape is characterized by rapid change and increasing complexity. In this dynamic environment, understanding firms' strategies to penetrate international markets is crucial. This study conducts a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to uncover the intellectual landscape of global market penetration strategies in international marketing, market-entry, and export strategies. Through careful examination of influential authors, essential works, research clusters, and emerging trends, this study offers valuable insights into the state of the field. Leading authors such as Ravi Ramamurti, Mike W. Peng, and Jean-François Hennart have significantly shaped our understanding of emerging market multinationals and internationalization strategies. Their seminal works have challenged conventional paradigms and encouraged innovative thinking. Identifying research clusters underscores the multifaceted nature of global market penetration, covering market entry modes, internationalization theory, and emerging market dynamics. Emerging digitalization, e-commerce, and sustainability trends highlight the ever-evolving international marketing landscape. The implications of this analysis extend to researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners, providing valuable guidance for future research, curriculum development, policy formulation, and strategic decision-making in the global arena.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a global disease that significantly impacts almost all fields, including education. The shift from face-to-face learning to blended learning during the COVID-19 pandemic requires technological devices to support the learning process. Therefore, this study aims to explore the application of Schoology as a learning management system in academic writing classes during the COVID-19 crisis. The sequential mixed method was applied in this study by analyzing the data qualitatively and quantitatively. All students in the academic writing class were selected as participants using a total sampling technique. The methods used to collect data are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Furthermore, the research instrument consisted of guided interviews and closed questionnaires distributed using a google form. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative, and quantitative analysis. The results showed that Schoology is beneficial to be infused with blended learning. The Schoology platform stimulates students who have adequate online learning readiness to experience their learning positively using Schoology-based blended learning. However, institutional interventions must be implemented to provide training to students to improve digital competence, strategies to become independent learners, and time management.

Abstract

Abstract

The supervisory practices, particularly in undergraduate thesis writing, have not received sufficient attention, specifically regarding their impact on EFL students writing apprehension and the potential gender differences in these dynamics. To fulfil this gap, this study examines the path coefficients among supervisory problem dimensions (research interests, different expectations, limited support, personal relationships, personal conflicts), writing self-efficacy, academic writing competence, toward writing apprehension, focusing on the potential gender differences among EFL students. A Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis was performed on a total of 219 EFL students undertaking their undergraduate thesis writing. The study revealed supervisory problems through mediated variables of academic writing competence and writing self-efficacy influence writing apprehension (=0.214 and =0.509, respectively; p 0.000 for both). Furthermore, the multi-group analysis uncovered notable gender differences. In contrast with male students, in which only a few paths were statistically significant, all paths were found to be significant for female students. In particular, the path from supervisory problem to academic writing competence had the strongest impact on female students, indicating the heightened sensitivity to supervisory problems related to the students writing apprehension. These novel findings shed light on the gender difference impact on the academic writing process, and a more pronounced impact from supervisory problems on their writing apprehension frequently happened to female students. Accordingly, these findings highlight the importance of recognizing and addressing those differences in instructional strategies to promote a more encouraging and productive learning environment.
