Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between curiosity and device addiction factors and motivation towards digital literacy in the context of smart learning. This study used a qualitative approach involving 228 students majoring in Electronics Engineering Education at Universitas Negeri Padang. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire with a saturated sampling method, ensuring all relevant respondents were involved. To evaluate the measurement model of the research questions, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis was used. The results revealed that digital literacy is significantly influenced by three main factors: curiosity, gadget addiction and app addiction. Furthermore, the study found that curiosity-driven motivation tends to improve digital literacy, while gadget and app addiction have a negative impact. These findings provide valuable insights for curriculum development, especially in improving digital literacy among electrical engineering education students. In addition, this study highlights the importance of educational interventions that can manage the wise use of technology and promote constructive curiosity. This research contributes to the understanding of how curiosity and excessive use of technology can affect digital literacy skills, which are crucial to face the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era. Thus, the results of this study can serve as a basis for more effective educational strategies in preparing students for future digital challenges.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies presents significant opportunities for transforming pedagogical approaches in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This study describes the systematic development and empirical evaluation of an AI-Integrated Project-Based Learning (AI-PjBL) model designed to enhance technical competency, problem-solving skills, and digital literacy among vocational students. Using an educational design research methodology, the model was developed through iterative cycles of design, implementation, and evaluation. Participants consisted of 120 vocational students across two cohorts. Data were collected through competency assessments, student engagement surveys, and teacher observation rubrics. Results indicate statistically significant improvements in technical skill acquisition (p < 0.01), higher-order thinking, and collaborative performance compared to conventional instruction. The findings suggest that the AI-PjBL model offers a viable and scalable framework for modernising TVET curricula and preparing students for Industry 4.0 demands.

Abstract

Vocational education programs in Indonesia face persistent structural misalignment between graduate competencies and industry demands, reflected in the vocational high school graduate unemployment rate of 9.84% despite enrollment of 5.08 million students. This study examined the effects of Teacher Competency (X1), Learning Facilities (X2), and Student Motivation (X3) on Student Work Readiness (Y), the mediating role of Student Motivation, and the moderating and direct effects of Industry Relevance (M). A quantitative explanatory survey design was employed with total sampling involving 350 students at vocational high schools in Indonesia. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS 4. All seven hypotheses were supported: Teacher Competency (β = 0.207, p = 0.000) and Learning Facilities (β = 0.211, p = 0.000) significantly predicted Student Motivation; Teacher Competency (β = 0.223), Learning Facilities (β = 0.270), and Student Motivation (β = 0.246) exerted significant direct effects on Work Readiness; Student Motivation mediated X1→X3→Y (β = 0.051) and X2→X3→Y (β = 0.052); Industry Relevance moderated Learning Facilities and Work Readiness (β = 0.151, p = 0.001); and Industry Relevance exerted a significant negative direct effect on self-assessed Work Readiness (β = −0.167, p = 0.001), interpreted as a perception gap mechanism. R² = 0.280 for Student Work Readiness. These findings provide evidence-based guidance for policymakers and school leaders to improve vocational education quality and graduate employability in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Logic Model and Theory-Based Evaluation in evaluating educational programs at Vocational High Schools (SMK), as well as to identify the advantages, limitations, and effectiveness of both approaches. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) referring to PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were conducted through scientific databases with a publication range from 2019 to 2026. From the selection process, 15 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained and analyzed qualitatively using a narrative synthesis. The research results indicate that the Logic Model approach is effective in mapping program structures systematically through the relationships between inputs, processes, outputs, and outcomes, making it easier to understand program flow and result achievements. Meanwhile, Theory-Based Evaluation is superior in explaining the mechanisms of change and the cause-and-effect relationships underlying program success. Nevertheless, this approach has a higher level of complexity and requires more in-depth data. The conclusion of this research shows that there is no single approach that is entirely superior, so the integration of Logic Model and Theory-Based Evaluation becomes the most effective strategy in producing a comprehensive, systematic, and evidence-based program evaluation. This integrative approach is recommended to improve the quality of educational program evaluations in vocational high schools (SMK).
