Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the implementation of the high-pressing strategy employed by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the 2025 Champions League Final against Inter Milan. This tactical phenomenon is significant due to PSG’s success in neutralizing the opponent’s counterattacking patterns through a highly proactive defensive structure. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, this study analyzes match dynamics through systematic observation of video recordings and field zone mapping. The research instruments focused on three main variables: the intensity of pressure in the final third of the field, coordination between lines within the “inverted triangle” scheme, and the effectiveness of utilizing half-spaces to trigger positive transitions. The results indicate that the success of PSG’s high-pressing system relies not only on the players’ physical superiority but also on precise positional discipline to cut off the opponent’s vertical passing lanes. Key findings reveal that the transformation of the formation into an inverted triangle in midfield enables PSG to create pressing traps in the wing areas, forcing opposing players to make mistakes in dangerous zones. Visual data analysis via heatmaps confirms that pressing dominance is concentrated in the half-space areas. In conclusion, the integration of tactical intelligence and flexible positional structures. This study offers practical implications for coaches and tactical analysts in designing an aggressive yet organized defensive system.

Abstract

Background: Match statistics provide objective information for evaluating badminton performance and developing evidence-based coaching strategies. However, limited studies have comprehensively examined the technical actions contributing to an elite player’s performance throughout an entire tournament. Objectives: This study aimed to analyse the effectiveness of technical actions performed by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting during the VICTOR China Open 2018 HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000, focusing on point-winning and point-losing outcomes. Methods: This study employed a quantitative observational design using systematic notational analysis. Performance data were obtained from official Badminton World Federation (BWF) match videos covering all four matches played by Anthony Sinisuka Ginting from the Round of 16 to the final, comprising 10 sets with a mean set duration of 26.1 minutes. Each match was systematically coded using a structured observation instrument to record service, netting, smash, drive, dropshot, lob, chop, defend, and lift actions. Technical actions were classified according to successful and unsuccessful outcomes, and the data were analysed descriptively using frequencies and percentages. Results: The smash generated the highest number of points, with an average success rate of 57.0% and an unforced error rate of 14.6%. In contrast, netting showed the highest proportion of successful actions but also the highest unforced error rate (26.7%). This pattern indicates that netting involved a greater balance between successful and unsuccessful outcomes than the other technical actions analysed. Conclusions: The findings demonstrate that technical performance in elite badminton is characterised by differences in point production and error patterns across technical actions. The results provide an athlete-centred perspective on elite badminton performance and offer practical evidence for coaches when evaluating match performance and designing technical and tactical training programmes.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of hand ball learning modifications using plastic balls in improving student learning outcomes in the subjects of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK). The action hypothesis in this study is that the use of plastic balls as a learning modification medium can improve the learning outcomes of students' handball skills. The main premise of the study is because handball learning in schools often faces the constraints of limited means, low media variation and a lack of courage for students to perform basic game techniques. Plastic balls were chosen because they are lighter, safer, easy to obtain and suitable for learning needs of basic skills such as passing, dribbling, catching, and shooting. This study uses the design of Class Action Research (PTK) which is carried out through the pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II stages. The subjects of the study were 36 students in grades XII-1 of SMA Negeri Pakusari. Data was collected through observation and handball skill tests, then analyzed descriptively based on average scores, number of students completed, and percentage of learning completion. The results of the study showed a gradual increase in learning outcomes. In the pre-cycle, the students who achieved completeness amounted to 19 students or 52.78% with an average class of 75.94. After the action in the first cycle, the completeness increased to 27 students or 75.00% with an average class of 80.28. In cycle II, the completeness reached 33 students or 91.67% with an average class of 88.78. Improvements also occur in all aspects of skills, namely passing, dribbling, catching, and shooting. Thus, the hypothesis of action is accepted. Modification of handball learning using plastic balls has proven to be effective as a safe, adaptive, and practical learning strategy to improve student learning outcomes in PJOK.  Keywords: handball; plastic balls; learning outcomes; learning modifications; Physical Education.
