Abstract

Biofertilizers contain N-fixing and P-solubilizing bacteria. The microbial population is dynamic and influenced by nutrient availability and storage temperature. Maintaining microbial populations requires appropriate carrier media to maximize microbial viability. The aim of the research is to determine the appropriate carrier material for the biofertilizer after storage based on the nutrient content and microbial population. The experiment utilized a completely randomized design with seven treatments and four replications, resulting in 28 experimental units. The treatments were as follows: B0 = Compost, B1 = Compost + Bacteria (Azotobacter and Pseudomonas fluorescens), B2 = Compost + Bacteria (Azotobacter + P. fluorescens) + Molasses, B3 = Compost + bacteria (Azotobacter + P. fluorescens) + CMC, B4 = Compost + bacteria (Azotobacter + P. fluorescens) + Arginine, B5 = Compost + bacteria (Azotobacter + P. fluorescens) + Sugar + CMC, and B6 = Compost + bacteria (Azotobacter + P. fluorescens) + Molasses + Arginine. The study results showed that the highest bacterial colonies were observed seven days after storage in treatment B2, reaching 156.33 CPU. The highest bacterial population growth in the first month was recorded in treatment B5; however, in months 2, 3, 4, and 5, treatment B2 exhibited the highest bacterial colony population. The pH remained more stable in treatments B2, B4, and B6. The highest nutrient content, including pH, N, P, K, and C/N ratio, was recorded in treatment B2, respectively, with values of 6.67, 2.49%, 2.04%, 1.77%, and 20.01. Findings in this study suggested the potential biofertilizer can be applied in the field to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers to support sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of production factors on coffee farm outputs in Pantai Cermin District, Solok Regency. The analytical method employed is a multiple linear regression approach. The independent variables analyzed include labor, land area, and fertilizer usage. The results show that labor has an elasticity of 0.606, indicating that a 1% increase in labor will increase production by 0.606%. Land area has an elasticity of 0.79, meaning a 1% increase in land area will result in approximately a 0.79% increase in production. Meanwhile, fertilizer has a very low elasticity of 0.013, suggesting that changes in fertilizer usage have an insignificant effect on coffee yield. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.85 indicates that 85% of the variation in coffee production can be explained jointly by these three variables. These findings suggest that increasing coffee production can be more effectively achieved by optimizing labor utilization and expanding cultivated land. This study provides valuable insights for farmers and stakeholders in formulating strategies to enhance the productivity and efficiency of coffee farming.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of various types of organic manure on the growth of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) seedlings during the pre-nursery stage. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Garden of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Payakumbuh using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments: without manure (P0), rabbit manure 200 g/polybag (P1), duck manure 200 g/polybag (P2), and chicken manure 200 g/polybag (P3), each replicated four times. Observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, and number of leaves. The results showed that chicken manure (P3) produced the highest seedling height (21.75 cm) and the largest stem diameter (0.94 cm), significantly higher than the control. Rabbit manure (P1) and duck manure (P2) also improved growth compared to the control, although not significantly different from P3 in plant height. The number of leaves did not significantly differ among treatments, yet all seedlings met the criteria for transfer to the main nursery (≥4 leaves). The superiority of chicken manure is presumably due to its low C/N ratio, which accelerates nutrient mineralization, particularly nitrogen. These findings recommend chicken manure as an effective option to enhance oil palm seedling growth at the pre-nursery stage. Keywords: oil palm, pre-nursery, organic manure, C/N ratio
