Abstract

Eel (Monopterus albus) is one of the freshwater fishery products that has high economic value which is widely caught in Lopak Alai Village, Kumpe Ulu District using bubu fishing gear. This study aims to determine the differences in eel catches using bubu fishing gear with different baits in Lopak Alai Village, Kumpe Ulu District. This research was conducted in Lopak Alai Village, Kumpeh Ulu District on January 12th - February 07th, 2025. The research method used was the experimental method. The total of bubu used in this study was 60 bubu with each placement of 5 meters, the size of the bubu used was 100 cm which consisted of 2 treatments, namely using earthworm bait and golden snail bait weighing 10 grams, each bait was placed into 30 bubu with 20 repetitions. The results of the study showed that the total of eel catches (Monopterus albus) with earthworm bait was 123 with an average weight of 611 g and an average length of 45 cm, while with golden snail bait it was 204 with an average weight of 1,393 g and an average length of 49 cm. The results of the t-test analysis showed that there were differences in the catches of eels with earthworm and golden snail bait.

Abstract

Belawan Ocean Fishing Port (PPS) is one of the largest fishing ports in North Sumatra. PPS Belawan aims to increase the income of fishing communities through the provision of fishing port facilities and infrastructure. The study aims to analyze the optimization of the level of utilization of basic, functional and supporting facilities at the Belawan Ocean Fishing Port and to determine the condition of these facilities. The latest conditions in the field through field surveys show that there are several facilities whose utilization levels are not optimal and whose conditions are not good, such as the port pool. The study was conducted at PPS Belawan, North Sumatra from December 15, 2024 to January 15, 2025. The method used in this study is the survey method. The data collected in the study are primary data in the form of interviews with several sources whose daily activities are related to port facilities, namely basic facilities, functional facilities, and supporting facilities. The data analysis used is descriptive which explains the condition of the port facilities and the level of utilization of port facilities from several facilities which can be calculated systematically. The results of the research show that the Belawan ocean fishing port facilities whose level of utilization can be calculated are still not optimal, even far from optimal, while the conditions of all the facilities required to be in ocean fishing ports, namely those divided into basic facilities, functional facilities and supporting facilities are in quite good condition, and can support port operations quite well.

Abstract

The dominant fishing gear operated by fishermen in Kampung Nelayan Village is a gillnet. Fishing with gillnets to be optimal needs to pay attention to the production factors used. The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that affect the production of fish catches using gillnets in Kampung Nelayan Village, Tungkal Ilir District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The method used in this research is a survey, a sampling method using purposive sampling based on the criteria, namely gillnet fishermen who use 0-5 GT boats and are still actively fishing with the number of samples used is 41 fishermen. The data analysis used is multiple linear regression. The results of the study show that cumulatively all the factors used have a significant influence on the production of catches, but partially the factors that affect the production of fish catches using gillnet fishing equipment are only the length of the net, the height of the net, the size of the net and the distance of the fishing area, while the strength of the machine and the length of soaking the net do not have a significant influence on the production of fish catches with using gillnet fishing gear in the Kampung Nelayan Village.
