Abstract

This research aimed at describing school's strategy in increasing the professionalism of Primary School teachers through Digital Literacy. This research was conducted at SD Negeri 6 Pulau Rimau, Banyuasin. The method was descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study approved the Principal's strategy and the role of the teacher to improve teacher’s professionalism through digital literacy run effectively. Some of the strategies used by principals include completing facilities and targets that can support digital literacy, strengthening literacy through e-Learning, school strategies by sending teachers and education personnel to get seminars, training, or technical assistance and helping Teacher Working Groups or Groups Principal's Work. Teacher strategies in increasing professionalism by implementing four teacher competencies, pedagogical, personal, social, and profesional competence through digital literacy.

Abstract

Literature is one of the tools used by humans to depict social phenomenon. Since centuries ago, there are a lot of literary works have brought up suicide into the topics. Today, this topic is still becoming a thing in popular novels. One of the most popular is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Data are collected by using the novel. Data were analyzed by detailing intrinsic elements, motives for teen suicide, and the theoretical implications for English Language Teaching. The findings of this research explained some interesting things about this novel. First, it is about how Jay Asher presents each element in this novel not only visually, but also how the elements are perceived by the characters. Jay uniquely presents two narrations from Hannah & Clay back and forth throughout the novel, which makes this novel very interesting. Second, there are 7 from 10 items on IMSA found in Hannah's statements that scientifically support her actions to end her life. Third, this novel could be used as a tool for teachers to teach about empathy, mental health, and suicide prevention in High Schools.

Abstract

Abstrak: Peningkatan kualitas sumber daya manusia merupakan suatu keharusan bagi lembaga pendidikan, karena guru merupakan kunci utama keberhasilan proses belajar mengajar di sekolah. Kualitas siswa seringkali didukung oleh guru yang kompeten. Studi ini mengungkap strategi yang diterapkan kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kualitas guru. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik wawancara dan observasi. Data dianalisis dengan pendekatan Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menyebutkan bahwa strategi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan kualitas guru yaitu: (1) penyediaan sarana dan prasarana sekolah, (2) studi lanjut, (3) melibatkan guru dalam kegiatan penelitian, (4) memberi pelatihan bagi guru yang mendukung pembelajaran, (5) menyediakan fasilitas membaca, dan (6) menyediakan lingkungan sekolah yang kondusif dengan kebersamaan dan kekeluargaan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini jika akan meningkatkan mutu guru diperlukan strategi kepemimpinan kepala sekolah yang baik.

Abstract

Parents of transnational sojourner families, who stay temporarily in a country other than their own, navigate across online and offline spaces to mediate their children’s socialization into the linguistic competence they need for both contexts, namely the host country and the homeland. Simultaneously, their children establish agency in developing their own linguistic competence. However, language socialization studies have rarely examined the interconnection between parents’ mediation and children’s agency across both online and offline spaces of socialization. In this light, this study presents an ethnographic study that examined parents’ mediation and a child’s agency in the online and offline language socialization of an Indonesian-Muslim transnational sojourner family in the United States, which is underexplored in language research.  Additionally, using Darvin and Norton’s (2015) investment model, it explored how the family’s identities, ideologies, and capital structured the child’s language socialization.  Data were collected from observations, interviews, and artifacts that depict language practices within the family.  In-depth thematic analysis through triangulation of the various forms of data was conducted to obtain trustworthiness.  The findings demonstrated that parents’ mediation and their child’s agency across online and offline spaces contributed to the development of the child’s linguistic and multimodal repertoires while also strengthening the family’s local and cross-border connections. The findings also demonstrated competing priorities in identity as well as in social and cultural capital investment, which were eventually resolved. The study provides a deeper understanding of transnational sojourners’ language investment in their imagined communities, which span across the host and the home countries.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah penerapan metode bermain peran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Selatan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan dalam 3 siklus dan setiap siklus terdiri dari tiga kali pertemuan. Data tentang kemampuan berbicara siswa dilakukan dengan cara pengamatan pembelajaran siswa dengan menggunakan metode role playing. Pada Siklus 1 skor total adalah 1622 dengan rata-rata 67,58%. Siklus 2, skor total adalah 1875 dengan rata-rata 78,12%. Siklus 3 skor total adalah 2022 dengan rata-rata 84,25%. Dari prestasi berbicara siswa pada siklus 3 telah berhasil meneliti target yang sesuai dengan harapan guru. Artinya 85% nilai siswa diatas nilai kelulusan. Kesimpulan menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan metode role play oleh guru dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya Selatan.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to discover and analyze the process of using smart app creator to improve the reading ability of eleventh grade engineering students at SMK Negeri 3 OKU Selatan. This study employed the classroom action research method, in which the researcher collaborates with another English teacher. This study was carried out in three cycles in accordance with the Kemmis and Taggart action research methodology. The study's findings revealed that students' reading abilities and motivation had improved. The minimal completion score for the English lesson was 70. Identifying 15 students, or 50% of the class, who meet the minimum completion criteria in cycle 1. Twenty students, or 66% of the class, passed the cycle 2 finding test's minimum completeness requirements, and 26 students, or 86% of the class, passed the cycle 3 finding test's minimum completeness criteria. Students' reading abilities improved from cycle 1 to cycle 2. Reading skills improved by 16% between cycles 1 and 2, and 20% between cycles 2 and 3. Students' participation in the teaching-learning process increased, indicating an increase in students' motivation.

Abstract

Perkembangan dunia Pendidikan mengharuskan seorang guru mampu membuat karya ilmiah. Salah satu karya ilmiah yang disarankan untuk meningkatkan kualitas guru dan kualitas pembelajaran adalah penulisan artikel ilmiah. Seorang guru agar menjadi guru yang profesional berarti guru tersebut harus selalu melaksanakan penelitian dan pembuatan artikel ilmiah. Tema pelatihan ini adalah Penulisan Artikel Ilmiah bagi Guru-Guru di SMPN 1 Sembawa Banyuasin. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah pemaparan materi, diskusi dan tanya jawab, serta demonstrasi menulis artikel ilmiah dan mencari jurnal terakreditasi Sinta. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan, peserta pelatihan tampak antusias dan aktif selama kegiatan berlangsung. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari banyaknya pertanyaan yang diajukan peserta pelatihan kepada pemateri sebagai bentuk ketertarikan mereka terhadap Penulisan Artikel Ilmiah. Penulisan artikel ilmiah ini sangat berguna bagi guru-guru untuk mengurus kepangkatan ke golongan yang lebih tinggi.

Abstract

This article aims to look at: (1) the differences that occur between reading motivation and storytelling techniques on students' reading comprehension, and (2) the interactions that occur between the independent variables, moderator variables and dependent variables. In this study used descriptive techniques using descriptive analysis methods to analyze the data, where the data obtained will be analyzed in the form of words or numbers. This study used 33 class XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Semende Darat Laut as respondents. From the research findings, there is a difference between variable X1 Motivation to Read and Variable X2 storytelling technique towards the variable y reading comprehension, and there has been a significant interaction between the variables in the research. based on these findings the researcher can draw conclusions from this analysis, as follows: Students' reading comprehension is influenced by storytelling strategies and reading motivation.

Abstract

Great value and culture of Indonesian people that very popular around the world. The highly complex conflict in Indonesia is generally extremely concerning, particularly the normative downturn. This same real dilemma is also taking place in the world of schooling. So this study aimed to reveal the moral value and instrinsic elements form the novel Black Notice by Patricia Cornwell relate to people from different environment by interview. The data of the research were gained through triangulation technique taken from novel, book review and interview which are analysed with desrcriptive qualitatively afterwards,and describe the condition and relation which are held and process still going. The results of the study found that certain moral values and intrinsic features include the novel Black Notice by Patricia Cornwell using the Social And cultural Historical Technique and the Biographical Framework.

Abstract

This research investigated  Deixis used in the novel entitled The Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam.This study was conducted to find out; (1) types of deixis contained in utterances of the novel entitled the Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam, (2) types of deixis were used most in the Novel entitled The Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam. Therefore, it gived significant to the author herself, the learners, other researchers and english teachers. The writer used levinson’s theory in analyzing the data. The methodology of this research  was qualitative descriptive study. The technique used to collect the data was documentation. The data was taken from 1.972 utterances of the novel entitled the Good Muslim by Tahmima Anam. From the data have been analyzed, it was found that there were five types of deixis, they were person deixis occured 1.723 times (87.4%), place deixis occured 53 times (2.7%), time deixis occured 68 times (3.4%), discourse deixis occured 83 times (4.2 %), person deixis occured 45 times (2.3 %). The most commonly used types of deixis was person deixis occuring 1.723 times (87.4%).
