Abstract

There are many reasons to get married and there are many reasons not to marry. It is normal for marriage to be considered as a rational option, especially in metropolitan areas, but of course this cannot be normalized for people in small towns like Tanjungpinang where the majority are from the Malays. Modernity and the degradation of traditional values are the reasons why women delay marriage. Based on the results of the research, the Tanjungpinang Malay community can understand the delay in the age of marriage for working women (career women) but not so for women who do not work it is considered a disgrace.

Abstract

Traditional values that are still preserved and binding on Indigenous Communities are often regarded as one of the obstacles to modernism by the modernization stream. Indigenous is still viewed by indigenous people as a social problem, because its alienation & backwardness make them a socially vulnerable group (socio-political silliness). Even in the Regulation of the Minister of Social Affairs Number 8 of 2012, it has stipulated KAT as one of the 26 Persons with Social Welfare Problems (PMKS) in Indonesia. This research discusses traditional culture as the strength of KAT. Based on this research, it was found that traditional culture plays a positive role in encouraging development for the Sea Tribe community itself. The traditional elements owned by the Sea Tribe community and can be a force in supporting development, namely; first, the collective consciousness awakened in the people of the Sea Tribe to protect nature. Second, responsibility to family, community and tribalism is great when compared to a more individualistic modern society. Third, the animist belief of the Sea Tribe people who still believe that a person who always does evil during his life and then dies, his spirit will be incarnated in the form of an animal that comes out of his grave. Fourth, the role of religious leaders for the Orang Laut community in the Riau Islands is a force to encourage development in the Sea Tribe community, especially as a bridge of communication with local governments. Fifth, the presence of Sea Tribe shamans who are trusted by some local Malay communities makes the presence of the Sea Tribe community acceptable and can gradually blend into the local community.

Giving salt acid from the patient to the shaman is still preserved and believed by the community as the key to treatment. The theory used to analyse is Herbert Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The determination of informants was carried out by purposive sampling technique or method. Based on the results of this study, the Sungai Guntung Village community still practises traditional medicine. This research resulted in the finding that the administration of salt acid is a spiritual phenomenon where the illness comes from physical, psychological and magical sources. The meaning of tradition depends on social interaction, so the continuity of meaning is also very dependent on changes in social interaction. The symbolic interaction in this treatment is reflected in the symbol of bonding between the shaman and the patient, the symbol of the patient's trust in the shaman, the symbol of gratitude from the patient to the shaman, the symbol of the key to treatment, the symbol of the belief that illness and treatment are spiritual phenomena.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the form of representation of violence against children through online media. The theory used in this research is Jean Baudrillard's simulacra theory. The research method uses a qualitative method with a literature approach. The results of this study show that exposure to violence in online media affects the representation of violence in children. Finally, children not only represent existing violence but also internalise the images and narratives produced by the media. The process of imitation, image or duplication of the representation of the reality of violence then exceeds the existing reality to form a new reality. Cases of child abuse caused by online media can use online games, social media, films and television to creative activities that children often access. This research also shows that desensitisation occurs in children due to repeated exposure.

Abstract

Abstract: This research analyses the views of the Suku Laut on development policies that have resettled them from a nomadic life at sea to a sedentary life on land. The top-down development approach often does not actively involve the Suku Laut, leading to various responses. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, with in-depth interviews and observations of 10 informants of the Sea Tribe in the Riau Islands. Peter L. Berger's social construction theory analyzed how social change occurs through externalization, objectivation, and internalization. Based on the research results, two main views of the Suku Laut towards development policies resulted from social construction. Both views reflect the complex dynamics of identity, access, and interaction with the new social environment. Firstly, some felt that development was not inclusive because it threatened their cultural identity, access to resources, and lack of involvement in decision-making. Secondly, some Suku Laut consider the policy sufficient to fulfill their basic needs, such as education, health, and protection from extreme weather. These different views are influenced by their living patterns, whether they are still nomadic, settled on the coast, or land. This article shows that the change from nomadic to settled life results from social construction created through the interaction of the Suku Laut with external society
